You guys buying case like it's going to drop 10 times a day on rock, concrete, skyscraper, lava, nuclear storm etc. etc. etc, and makes it looks like a brick phone from yesteryear. 'Better be safe than sorry' has it's limits, this is called paranoid when some of you don't even have the phone on hand and yet worried about the case

For those who have rooted, which roms are you currently on and are you on stock or custom kernels?

I was just thinking of installing cm, but right now its still in the nightly phase so thought of waiting a while before going ahead.

what do you all suggest

If you want stability and fully working phone use stock ROM with custom kernel. The kernel I have tested is Franco, faux and Linaro, both are good and a major inprovement over limited stock kernel.

Also dont install too much mods on your phone, it bound to not compatible with one another. Apart from kernel I leave everything at stock so I dont have much headache.

With new UI, i dont need to used the custom rom anymore. Stock rom already good enough. Now i just paying with custom kernel.

from Omni and now stick on Cataclysm. franco give little bit more juice than faux, but now I'm in ElementalX, even better. come with Aroma installer during flash, will never go back to others.

One concern would be: if im using a puck-sized qi charger (e.g. LG WCP-300), how would it balance/sit on it with the empty back?

By the way, any of ex-Nexus 4 user here moving to Nexus 5, how is your using experience? (I wanted to know more about battery life)

Yeah even though we dont have the phone yet, there is nothing wrong with discussing or buying the casing first. Since some of us still have to wait (those who dont want ap set) so just to pass time, there is no harm in deciding which casing to get.

btw I am looking for N5 case as well, most of them that sold in Malaysia is without 'Nexus 5' wording, I want people to 'see' i am using Nexus 5 , cant really find a good case.
