Disclaimer: Spoilers ahead.

I was not disappointed, because I did not expect great things from this book. I picked it up simply because I read the first book, Divergent. This is a rather... special trilogy, in the sense that, the first book tells you exactly what will happen in the second and third book, eliminating most if not all elements of surprise.

My first instinct was to skip the second book and go straight for the third one, for the forewarned finale. But I didn't because I understand I need to grind through the second book to grasp certain things in the third. While not really that bad a read, the second book's experience was somewhat ruined by the first one.

At its essence, the writer explores the complexity of human attitudes and values. The book explains that humanity lost its, well, humanity, at some point of the book-world's timeline. Some people decided to save humanity from itself, sacrificing their past for everyone's future. Exactly how they did it - that's your incentive to get a copy of the book and read.

You must understand, this is a young adult science fiction with a young girl as lead character. I cringed whenever "bitching moments" came up, some of them so unbearable I had to take a coffee break.

But I'll say this: it resonates with how The Hunger Games teaches young girls in our world to be brave. Actually, this is a lot like The Hunger Games, except not as well polished when it comes to romance.

Long story short: just endure it for the sake of third book. Even though it's not my favorite cup of tea, but I can see how targeted audience will enjoy the read.
