already rooted (knox still 0x0 tongue.gif )so now i wanted to try flash the kernel via odin from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459328

using odin 3.04, the kernel and modem should be place under 'phone' or 'pda'?
im still not sure if flash kernel and modem via odin will trip the knox?? any idea??
i have searched around for the latest modem, i remember reading some member post stated getting good signal reception after flashing the uk firmware with its latest modem..
at my house only 1-2 signal bar only... damn.. (Maxis)

Why do you need to flash a separate kernel and modem..!?
I don't think you can mix and match your firmware anymore. Either your flashing fail..into bootloop or worst case..trip your Knox.
If you desperate to try new firmware..flash the whole firmware is much safer.
*
hmm.. not desperate to try new firmware rather desperate for getting better signal.. smile.gif i remember saw some user here posted new modem get significant boost in signal.. (forget who.. lol)
i was being lazy cos just finish customize the system file so thought might just change kernel and modem.. tongue.gif

your're right.. just read from xda cannot mix-match.. else will soft-brick.. thanks for reply.. really appreciate it biggrin.gif

Done updated to MJ7 and rooted. Knox still 0x0, i got no camera to show that now.
Steps i did
1) Download full firmware from sammobile (Hotfile is super slow. dry.gif)
2) URDLV to get the patched system.img.ext4 and cache.img
3) Extract the original rom tar file
4) Delete aboot.mbn
5) Replace system.img.ext4 and cache.img (frankly i dun think cache.img is actually patched but oh well no harm just replacing it) with patched one
6) Repack to tar.md5 using cygwin cos i dun have linux.  tongue.gif
7) Flash with odin v3.09
8) Reroot using RDLV

Done.

is it because of network issue? im on stock, and facing problems with maxis. suddenly will have no signal at all...

anyone having weird problems with the alarm? is it a problem or just that im coming from iOS and im not used to it... happened a few times since i changed over...
*
I'm maxis user also.. at my home, the data connection always drop and sometimes even no service.. but at my office never face such issue plus most of the time full bar

The speed does increase significantly after flash the mj7 ..but only speed increase, not the signal bar. thanks too ant00 method.. successful flash without trigger knox and also able to learn new things.. thanks

It's likely OEM. Try seller brotan (I don't recall his GS link) since he ensures his cables meet GCC ratings of 1800, and he's also in SS2/SS3 area.

ok.. thanks.. found his thread already.. will drop a msg to him biggrin.gif

Check in 1st page on how to root you MJ1 phone safely.
*
lol.. i already rooted + flashed mj7 safely via URLD.. antt00's method
i just wanted to try use custom kernel.. usually custom kernel are flash via custom recovery example TWRP or CWM.
but since using these flashing will trigger the knox.. so i was thinking if convert the boot.img to .tar file and flash via pc odin, wonder will it works or not..

im no master so figure asking here 1st better

i just search on first page, under post #13 - Privacy/Permission Controls
why din App Ops - Permission Manager in the list?? or perhaps im blind?? blink.gif
its pretty convenience to manage permission for both system and user downloaded apps without root
