Noob question here:

When ppl referring to balance in/output, must it be only XLR?

Does RCA (red and white / left & right) consider as balance?

Thanks

Tare,
you ask a very poignant question which i'm afraid we don't really understand.

balanced could be XLR or even 1/4 inch (instrument jacks) provided they satisfy the following:

1 pin/terminal used for ground
the other 2 pins/ terminals used for carrying the +'ve signal (called hot signal) and the -'ve signal (cold signal). the -'ve is the phase inverted signal.

it is balanced because whatever extraneous noise added to both+'ve and -'ve signals can be removed by reinverting the phase of the cold signal and then added back to the hot signal. this is why balanced signal cables can have way longer runs that unablanced cables can't.

RCA if i'm not wrong works on a different method whereby the -'ve signal is not the phase inverted but is a 'screening' signal
