RCA do have ground, the outer one it is. to make RCA to TRS 3.5mm we connect TRS' ground to RCA outer later contact.

remember the braiding sequence, apply even pressure on each round, make sure each round has the same gap as others.

i did 8 braid before, you can do it in 2 ways, you can group them into 4 pairs then only braid or braid them individually. Its hard to find it because its quite troublesome to do it.

from my experience, if you put 1 left, 1 right 1 ground, the sound tend to be slightly slower, you see because each channel has its own signal cable but ground is being shared. for all my cable that i sold i usually do 1:2 ratio, unless cable mixing.

Make sure your solder is not too hot until burnt the drivers
