I remember once seeing people in this thread where got some members adviced others to use HUMAN SHAMPOO....

Well, it's a big NO NO loh....

Why? Ok, here is the reason, got it from a website, a vet gives these tips.

A few other tips to remember about bathing...

Always use a shampoo formulated for dogs. Human shampoos have a different pH level and often use harsher detergents than pet shampoos. You can do more damage than good if you use a human shampoo on pets. Start bathing your dog when it is young so bath time will be easier as your dog ages. Brushing is one of the best ways to take care of your dog's skin and coat and in many cases is more important than bathing. Brushing and removing mats should always be done before the bath. Fatty acid supplements added to your pet's good diet will help maintain a healthy haircoat and skin. For the best coats, we recommend daily brushing, regular baths, and supplementation with a fatty acid supplement like Vitacoat or Vitacoat Plus.

Every dog needs a bath from time to time so follow your instincts - and these tips - and your dog and your family will thank you for it. Don't be afraid to bathe your dog as often as needed

Hope this info helps.

actually u're not recommended to bath the dogs on a daily basis.. like the thread started quoted

"Don't be afraid to bathe your dog as often as needed"

meaning, when u think the dog need a bath, dun be afraid to bathe it.. ( and i dun think your dog need daily bathe rite? )

Well, as often as needed would be once or twice a week... coz most people actually bath twice a month or once a month...

Once a week is consider quite often. The more often you bath your dog, the less pleasant the dog's fur will be. The fur won't be as shinny as you want it to be.

Hmmm... I think powder is ok but some people say that it makes the fur harsh. I suggest you get the powder meant for dogs. I saw once at Petsmore, RM11 for a container.... smells like shampoo.

It is always better to bathe once or twice a month. That phrase is just for people to know that they can bath more often if they are extremely dirty or have medical problems.... Actually, you can bath your dog often but without shampoo, just water.

Not to say better, the dog powder is something like a deoderant and dry shampoo... it is meant for dogs who smell more than they should hehehe.... well, you can always try it on your dog. Later your dog powdery like donut heheheh... kidding tongue.gif

Powders aren't meant for long term cleanliness of the dog's fur. It's for those times when the guy was sickly and couldn't shower. Or when he's been vaccinated but in desperate need of a shower, then powder is used for substitute.

I'm quite curious though how those breeders keep their dogs' white fur white! I mean my pup's fur turns brownish the moment he finishes his bath. Is there any special shampoo (not harmful to the dog's skin/fur) that we can use to whiten?

Pauline.
