Hello everyone, I'm looking to set up a new entertainment rig.

I wish to have a PC hooked up to two screens. 1 Monitor for close viewing (27'') and 1 HDTV placed 3 or 4 feet away for movies and stuff (both HDMI)

When the PS4 comes out, I'm gonna hook it up to the HDTV on a second channel via HDMI

Here comes the confusing part, I want my PC and PS4 to play sound over a set of 5.1 speakers (home theater or pc), I intend to keep my PC running at all times, and I would like to play music from the PC while playing my game.

I've attached a a hand drawn blue print, could you guys give your thoughts as to what I need to make this work?

adoi nice drawing biggrin.gif

list out your speaker model so we can investigate further

basically boils down to your speaker features, if it has a 3.5mm aux in socket, then you're in luck as these sockets are for general use and will automatically play anything plug to it, usually for ipods, mp3 players or smartphones.

just plug from your PC audio card to aux in, and ps 4 to optical in

haha, thanks!

Based on my needs, what speakers would you recommend?

And that mackie mixer looks mega confusing.. I'm not even sure if I know what I'm looking at, does it switch between channels? I have a friend who recommended a splitter, however I was thinking if that's the case I might as well go for a A/V receiver to future proof my equipment, what are your thoughts?

my Sony home theater takes the sound from the TV so what ever HDMI cable I connect to TV the home theater will play the sound its a bit interesting as I tried xbox and my PC but I need to switch the channels in order to play each of them and it doesn't play both at the same time need to mention my TV and home theater are both Sony brand that's why it's integrated biggrin.gif

when picking an amp, these would be things to look for,

DTS-HD
Dolby True HD
Optical In
Aux In

However, the tricky part with amps is most models don't automatically play audio upon connecting the 3.5mm stereo plug to aux-in, it needs to be set to aux-in mode first, which would disable the audio source from the PS 4.

I will need to research on some models that does this.

If we look at most of the modern mini hi-fi speaker sets, they usually have a dedicated 3.5mm aux-in socket where users could plug in the ipod and music plays automatically through the stereo speakers (we simply replace the audio source from ipod to the PC's soundcard instead)

going to test my yamaha amp when I have time wink.gif

less than rm300 i think for simple ones, the one in the pic should be more expensive. u can oso get similar one for cars, much more simple and used to balance multiple amps. i forgot the name already.

TS wants to play music from PC while playing PS4 using the same speaker.

No such thing! you cant output two inputs from a single AVR.

You need another PC speaker for music or LCD monitor with a built in speaker.

your PS4 can output its surround sound to the AVR

Multi inputs surround sound... No AVR can do that. you need a mixer like someone said, but i dont thing its capable of multi surround processing, most likely 2 channels.

Attached Image

other brand AVR should have similar feature

btw yamaha RX-V775 got 2 HDMI outputs, just nice for your dual display requirement

It can b done if the PC support surround sound input. Just using PC as central processing unit for sound input/output however if u turn off PC, ur ps4 and others won't getting any sound. I've done it before for my xbox360.

Optical cable for surround
Ps4 ->PC ->AVR

Hdmi Video connection
Ps4 -> AVR -> TV/monitor
PC -> AVR -> tv/monitor

FYI, ur elec bill will b expensive since u will need to power on ur pc All d time sweat.gif

Hope it helps.

Yeah thats why he needs another pair of speaker.

PC VIDEO

DVI Out -> LCD Monitor (main)
HDMI Out ->HDMI- AVR -HDMI-HDTV (mirror/extended monitor)

PC SOUND

Both similar hdmi out ports from PC
HDMI Out ->HDMI- AVR -5.1 Sound Speaker (main)
HDMI Out ->HDMI- AVR -2.0 Sound Speaker (zone2) - extra speakers only use when playing game coz PS4 will be using 5.1 main speaker

New AVR should be able to output any HDMI source to zone 2 (old one only accept analog source)
