Hi there, I am just curious do u guys use kindle to read? If yes, how is the experience so far? Do you guys get tired after reading for long hours? If no, then why not? I am really interested in buying a kindle, but I would like to hear from some of you before I purchase it. Thanks. This post has been edited by Mr Kong: May 26 2014, 09:09 PM Attached thumbnail(s)

Paperwhite is better due to the built in light. Used it mostly during travelling, compact and light. However, buying books directly from Amazon need VPN for safety.

You can do a comparison with Kindle book price and MY book price. Convenient to buy books from your house. But you miss out the paper smell and book display on shelves. Amazon can't sell the Kindle and its ebook to Malaysia. You have to use VPN to cheat Amazon you are at USA to buy book safely. They will randomly check on where people buying books, if they found out they will email you for IC, normally I just ignore them and they won't do anything also. A hassle but not a big problem. Or you can buy Kobo reader which sell books internationally. Google book store also just launched in MY, but no e-ink Android device yet I think.

But does it strain your eyes when you read it for a long time? Have u tried kobo yourself? Seems like these 2 are the best e-readers around.

Should be more or less the same, just buy the one you like, and take a look at the ebook price.

Seems like these 2 are the best e-readers around. No eye strain at all. It's just like a paper page from an actual book. I can literally spend half a day reading on my Kindle without having eye strain. Kobo and Nook are kinda crap compared to Kindle, though the Nook Glow would be a viable alternative to the Kindle Paperwhite if you're interested in going down that route. The fluff about missing the smell of books is just funny. I have hundreds of dead-tree-books in my various libraries (at home and at uni) and I've never felt any nostalgia for the smell since let's face it, it's not all it's hyped up to be. Especially the older books that already smell kinda bad. I do like the smell of new books though that I randomly sniff while visiting bookstores like MPH or Kinokuniya when I'm looking for new ebooks to download.

Some people may find the screen too small, but I like how portable and compact it is. I got it for a bargain price, so definitely no complaints. Kobo sells books internationally, but some of their books are not available in Malaysia. However, Kobo readers support epub format so that greatly expands the range of books available. You don't have to buy from Kobo. This post has been edited by wornbook: Dec 9 2013, 02:51 PM

It's about Rm250, I am also thinking about getting an e-reader but I love the physical book and it's awesome cover way too much.

i've used a kindle keyboard for a few years, and recently upgraded to a kindle paperwhite 2. since they are both using e-ink technology, there is virtually no eye-strain - the reading experience is very close to an actual book. i'm an avid fan of real books - the smell, the touch, the sensation of a real book is irreplaceable. however, i find myself reading more and more on the kindle because of the convenience it offers - i no longer find myself lugging 4-8 books when i go travelling since i have thousands of books in a single kindle the paperwhite screen is fantastic, especially with the lighted screen. tablets and PCs are back-lit, paperwhite is front-lit so you don't feel any eye strain since the light is directed downwards. so happy to be able to read in the dark in comfort. i bought my kindles from https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1811881lowest price i can find in malaysia, and extremely reliable seller.

I got mine in New Zealand for only NZD49 (RM128). I've never seen it at that price again - cheapest atm is NZD54. If you know someone there, maybe they can help you send it here.

He did reply me once last week stating that he is out of town and can only COD this week. Then no news from him when I sms and pm him again to ask for COD location. Hope he is alright. Thank You.

Hi there, im using kindle 5th grn, just plain ol read book device with wifi so that i can transfer book wirelessly. Really good device, been 1 and half year now, no probs at all, my main traveling companion so that i don't have to carry around 4-5 books, now i can carry the whole series without sweat. Can read for hours without stop as no glare from screen. Only thing is i can't read in the dark as no backlight or something but it is for my own good too recently bought another unit for mum, from shirogawa lyner. QUOTE(MrUbikeledek @ May 24 2014, 08:59 AM) If i use kindle, can i transfer ebook from another kindle or any other device like my tablet? Also, is it possible to download free ebook? There are lots of free sites out there...if you know what I mean. You can use Calibre on your computer to manage your ebook library as well as convert epubs to mobi and vice versa, provided that they aren't encrypted. Unencrypted ebooks can transferred to and fro your kindle via usb. It's just copy paste basically. If you're talking about the ebooks you bought from Amazon though, you can use the Kindle app to download and read your purchased ebooks on your tablet, computer or mobile device as well. You can also use various tools to strip the DRM from your .azw (Amazon mobi encrypted format) so that you can read it on any mobile device. This can also be done with encrypted epubs (from Kobo/Barnes and Noble and the other e-retailers) as well. This post has been edited by red streak: May 24 2014, 09:30 AM
