Being a long time windows user. I've just made a switch to mac since a few months ago. way b4 this, I was using a combo between window and linux. reason for linux is just for the very same reason as osx being a unix. It's stable and has less virus to lurk in the net for unix based system.
The whole time when i was using linux, i've got problems with some drivers and missing some commercial software like photoshop (wine can run it but it's far from perfect). When I was in windows, I always have to spend time to maintain it. which made me more attached to virus scan, malware scan, defragment, registery scan. All of this takes numerous time off my schedule being a 3d animator needing all of those precious rendering time for the machine to work.
It's no doubt that window can be efficient as well if it begin with doesn't have an internet connections to get virus and malware problems. But what's the point of using a machine without internet connection in 21th century?
Now i'm using an ibook for web surfing and some light work on artworks while waiting for my new 17" MBP to arrive (to admit, apple m'sia respond on educator's purchase is too slow. took them nearly 1 month to give me a quotation).
i'm spend more time on my work instead of struggling with my pc on maintainance. After using ppc alone without intel mac for a while, I find that osx is sufficient for most of my needs while i can starts to forget about windows. It's true that I've to sacrifice some plugins and etc. But i still can live without it on a ppc.
When my mbp arrive, I doubt I'll have much interest to install xp in it except for some games that only available in xp.
anyway, I've promised myself not to use my new lappy for gaming (play ps2 instead). So I'll stick with osx alone for now.

Wow! Greatz & Clear Reply , huh? laugh.gif

As for my "WHY?" is MAC OS just same like you . With my PC P4 2.8 775, 512ddr2 ATi X550 256MB DDR2, LagGGG when using photoshop CS for 1280x960 BMP photo ! But smooth like hell for my Mac Mini 1.25Ghz G4 with 512MB of DDR400 , 32MB ATi 9200 Displaycard .....

Full of "???" on my mind. rclxub.gif But 1 thing , MAC OS X love RAM..... cool.gif

Personally for me, im looking to get into the entertainment industry, and ive been hearing for YEARS that the Apples are the industry standard in terms of graphic design and video editting/handling so mostly thats my biggest reason..

Im also looking to get into GarageBand, which ive played around with before and has gotten me real excited at the thought of recording and producing music..

But with the discoloration issue, im starting to have doubts though...i know its a cosmetic issue la, but if it can start looking like that in 3 weeks, what happens at the 3 month mark? or maybe even a year..? So its something im gonna have to really think through...

GOD i hope Apple comes out and says something about this....

why ?
i wanted to try out the OSX, the experience of it, a different feel. Everybody saying it's great and so on, especially for music recording, and the stability. And virus free.
So i decided to spend more bucks than expected, in order to buy a G4 12". That was one year ago. That felt great.

But:
It occasionally crashes when watching a dvd.
The recording of music is good, but at my level I don't see any difference with recording using a Windows OS machine. Nothing special. And quite painful because of the small screen !
The cd/dvdv player just broke, one month ago.
The screen is really small.
It is a mess to work with a windows machine at the office and having to switch your whole computer behaviour in the evening when you're at home using your mac.
No input for a mic.

And i now sincerely regret having bought a widescreen centrino pc... those are actually more what I was after.

sorry, i'm being off-topic and possibly a sitting duck smile.gif

wow.... being a moderator like you supposely to represent something knowledgeable, and yet you use a basic consumer-based apple product to do something semi-pro.... you gotta be kidding me....

i totally agree with you : i did a mistake and i know i did, and I can't imagine how many other people did such a mistake. But i hope i'm being fair here , giving an unbiased review of my experience, hoping it'll "moderate" the overall enthousiasm. Let's make things straight here : the basic G4 does the job when it comes to recording, i didn't complain about that. It's not really semi-pro, but it's nevertheless working fine.

And it is true that I'm a simple user when it comes to computers (i'm a mod of the musicians forum, that's all). Just know enough to outsmart "normal/non-nerd" people around me laugh.gif

Well, actually, let's be fair : basic users with money will love the simplicity of the mac. Professionals in audio/video will love the power and stability of the mac. Wannabe professionals can also show off by using a mac. Business men spending time in coffee shops... well, they'd look better with a Mac smile.gif

But... in-between users, working the whole day on Windows, databases, excel sheets, ftp, data transfers... definitely Mac's not for them. Not for me...

Ok, that's all, I don't really want to interfere here... just giving another point of view. Glad to make you laugh though wink.gif
