Need some advice. I am thinking of getting the new retina mbp. Do you think it is necessary to sign up for two ear Apple care? So expensive when it adds up. Being such a trusted brand and a hardy notebook, is it really necessary? Appreciate advice from whether members face problems with their macs to utilise Apple care although I know people o sign up for it.

I haven't purchased it but gonna to today or tomorrow. I been browsing the web and did research.I think we all need to buy the apple care.

AppleCare is insurance against failure, not against loss/damage/theft. Personally I buy one for every Mac I have owned. I buy my computers to use, not to pamper. If anything breaks let Apple fix the problem. I've owned Macs since the last millenium before they were popular

Having said that though, never ever buy AppleCare until the last week of your original warranty (check online to be sure). AppleCare is not insurance. If you buy it the first day, then someone swipes your rMBP on the second day, you're also out of RM799-1199 on top of the cost of your rMBP.

ACPP is definitely a must, my rMBP screen has Image Retention on the 13th Month, because of ACPP it saved me from paying RM3000 for the replacement.

The price for Apple Care is still cheap if you compare it to the repair costs if your Mac ever fails or broken.
If you don't have Apple Care, the repair costs can be ridiculously expensive.

It's definitely worth the 'investment' for Applecare bro, parts for repairing Apple products like retina mbp ain't cheap at all. With Applecare, the repair cost for all the faulty parts are FREE when it's under Apple warranty (1+2 years)

You're right. When there is no AppleCare, the repair costs will probably make you say "I better buy a new one".

Plus, one of the good things about AppleCare is it allows us to purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan anytime within the one year warranty period.

Im in dilemma too, my one year warranty already going to end soon and SWITCH already emailed to remind me to take the ACPP.





But then again is it worth it? i mean

1. Is Mac product really that bad that you need to insure each of them after a year of usage?

2. Apple is announcing new product every 6 months, should we just stuck with one computer for 3 years with ACPP?

3. With ACPP how much increase on the resale 2nd value for your mac?

Buying these ACPP definitely increase the price of the product, worse is the cost of this insurance is way high compare to car, house or even life insurance.

Lol look at Macbook Pro ACPP is similar to my car insured at RM100K value for one year.

With regards to your dilemmas,

1. Can't really say bad but somehow technological goods are not 100% guarantee problem free. People do get sick occasionally.

2. We can't get enough out of it, tech stuffs are fast changing goods but for a laptop with MAC OS and with such money spent on it, think about the consequences IF

3. Goods' exterior conditions, warranty, and battery usage (?? out of 1000 cycles) are part of the resale value. With mentioned criterias met + ACPP, definitely worth the increase 2nd value.

And when you think about 'better get a new one' when your mac is faulty (warranty expired), you might as well regret for not investing in ACPP

1. Not really, but what if the device suddenly fails after the warranty. Who knows right ?

2. It depends, if you don't want to spend money on the new Mac, AppleCare is the way to go.

3. The second hand value will increase as it is still under AppleCare warranty. Like, if you sell your device after your standard warranty ended.

Yes it is expensive, but the cost of repair can be much more expensive than the AppleCare.

Want to ask:

If i buy MBPR now without applecare at applestore, before my 1 year warranty end next year, can i buy applecare for it?
Or must be buy applecare together when the time i buy my MBPR ?

If not Apple wouldn't insure your new apple item.

It only applies to AppleCare+.

For AppleCare, it is within one year.

What's the difference between AppleCare and AppleCare+?

AppleCare is you pay higher price, but it covers all natural/manufacturer defects within the priod of coverage, while AppleCare+ is sort of you pay much lower price to cover for 1 or 2 defects by accidentals(means its your fault) but you still have to top up for the part cost (your original warranty still valid then).

AppleCare+ extends your (iPhone/iPad/iPod) coverage to two years from the original purchase date and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage.

AppleCare+ are available in Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Meanwhile, AppleCare just extend your service coverage to three years from the computer’s purchase date.

apple care is not like the extended warranty for windows notebook...

windows notebook, you must buy the extended warranty when is was new.. if you didn't buy the extended warranty on the first day you bought the notebook, you won't eligible for the extended warranty anymore..

for apple, as long as there are still warranty, you are still able to buy the apple care..

you could buy the apple care since day one.. or, you could also do like most of us here.. bought the apple care on the last weekends before the warranty ends..

i bought the macbook after i got bonuses. so that next year bonus, i spent a bit on buying the apple care

To add on, Applecare doesn't only applicable for Apple notebooks but also other electronic devices e.g. iPad, iPod.



Personally I prefer to purchase an Applecare and register on my Apple devices ASAP, sometimes human tends to be forgetful and missed the opportunity for Applecare registration

I bought APP MB AIR/13" MB PRO AppleCare (MD015FE/A) which I haven't use since my MBA was snatched by crooks, anybody knows if this can be use against rMBP 13"?

A bit confused since they've different applecare for mba and for mbp/rmbp 13" now as per the link. Will try to call them up and get clarification.

Nope, if I could use it with the rMBP that it.

I think you can use the same AppleCare for MBA and 13" rMBP.

As you can see, the code is the same (MD015FE/A) for MBA and 13" MBA if you refer to the link that I gave you.

However, it is best for you to call them for confirmation.
