Lenovo seems to have the best price vs performance notebook lineup. Choose any brand that has great warranty support such as next day onsite etc.

I heard that Haswell equipped laptops are all having price increase across the board.
Don't quote me on this. |

I Inquired from one reseller in Melaka about Y510 and they said they hike are due to "Price Increase due to the manufacturer RAM burn out, now shortage of the RAM"

QUOTE(TanTengWei @ Oct 30 2013, 01:33 AM) I Inquired from one reseller in Melaka about Y510 and they said they hike are due to "Price Increase due to the manufacturer RAM burn out, now shortage of the RAM" 1. there is no RAM shortage in global market now.2. Price increase is ~ few hundreds. 1 stick of 4GB RAM only cost ~ RM100. Y series have been selling like hot cake. Lenovo just take advantage to restore profit margin. Plain and simple But price increase just reduce Y series competitiveness. At Y series current price point, buyers should consider MSI or Clevo already |

Regarding the RAM shortage, I remember reading somewhere on how the Hynix plant had a fire early last month (September)?
And considering how big of a RAM chip provider they are, I am guessing that there will be lower supply somewhere? Not sure. |

QUOTE(Areas Elysian @ Oct 30 2013, 08:57 AM) Regarding the RAM shortage, I remember reading somewhere on how the Hynix plant had a fire early last month (September)? yup, there was a fire in Hynix plant in Wuxi (?) in mid September. That plant's production accounted for 10% of world DRAM output. The fire caused a spike in DRAM spot price, but not much ripple in DRAM contract price (this is where laptop brand operate, no OEM is crazy enough to buy in spot market). And global production volume is expected to ramp up before the western year end holidays season (Hynix is also working around the clock to bring production back on line. No equipment was hurt, clean room was damaged.)And considering how big of a RAM chip provider they are, I am guessing that there will be lower supply somewhere? Not sure. Just don't see how ~ RM20-30 increase in 4GB RAM could justify an increase of couple of hundred in laptop price |
