a big hi to everyone artistically inclined here at LYN,

my name is Blake and I run a humble local gaming magazine called GameAxis Malaysia.

GameAxis is primarily a magazine about video games but it does ocassionally cover other aspects of popular culture such as movies, toys and fashion.

I have to admit that the magazine is not that great compared to other foreign gaming magazines available in Malaysia, but at least we're local. Our content is very local as our articles are written from a Malaysian gamer's point of view.

As part of our plans to provide more local content to our readers, we're planning to start a section dedicated to art related to video games.

It's very simple really. Any graphic student/professional or anyone can submit their work to the magazine and the most interesting artwork will get publish every month, along with a photo and a little description of the artist.

The medium can be any format, digital or otherwise. It can be pixel art, vector art, animation, illustrations, graffiti, stencils, photographs, oil, crayon, etc. My only request is it that the theme has to be video games.

There is no payment for all artwork submitted but I will try my best to give the chosen artist of the month a small token of appreciation like a copy of a game, a goodie bag, etc.

If you want your work to be seen by the magazine's 20,000 readers every month, here are the details on how to submit your work.

1. Send all artwork to blake (at) gameaxis.com, together with your full name and contact number. Please try to include a short description about your submitted work like how did you get the inspiration to do it or why did you do it.
2. Please put the subject "For GameAxis Art Section" in your email.
3. All artwork must be 300dpi in resolution and A4 in size. This includes jpg, scans, psd, ai, etc files.

Please submit all entries by 20th June 2006.

If you have any enquiries, do email me at blake (at) gameaxis.com. I'll be more than glad to answer your questions.

kthxbai.

What i am going to voice right now might not be related to this topic however, it would be nice for others to share my experience. As a local magazine, and i think there are quite some supporters like me. I always believe you get what you paid for and come on you get a mag about RM5 what else can ones expect. The contents is quite updated and ones might ask why should he go buy the magazine while there are tons of game review website out site which provide much more comprehensive contents. However there are minority people like me who like to pickup something light to read in heavy traffic or waiting for boarding time. That's the main reason i bought this magazine. I subscribe for this magazine last year during the pc fair. However i just can't stand it when i don't get mine in time while i always find the lastest issue of game axis in the store nationwide. Well, i truly understand that there are things that need to be sort out between you and your courier service provider. But that's not my problem, i always thought that by subscribing to a magazine i always get the latest copy in time well i can tolerate if it had been late for said a week or two and to top it off, i don't get discount from the yearly subscription and why should i have to wait. I am sure there are others readers who felt the same. It's June 13 today and i haven't receive this month copy. Perhaps i will receive it end of the month like last month. It doesn't really matter anymore to me. It would be good if it come else i will just do what i hate most, give you a call again to express my anger which in the end there is nothing you can do to improve the delivery service. Yes it's little money that i paid but i sign up because your service USED to be good. I ain't going to check my mail box every day now and asked my friend if the magazine had arrived, it does not really a matter now because i can always pickup sometime else to read in the future but not game axis.

Nice magazine you have there. Congrats on the good work. Reading game axis on and off. But dont you think sending those big images is taxing on the email? 300dpi A4 size of PSD is huge!

a 300dpi, A4 (21x29.7cm without bleed) .PSD file is only 5.33MB, compared to one of the same size in .Tiff would be 24.8MB but a .Jpg file would only be 105kb.

300dpi and A4 size the ideal requirements. anything less would not turn out good in print, especially if we blew it up to a whole page. actually 200dpi and A5 is also acceptable if anyone is really interested.

well, if you are really interested, you can still submit your work after the deadline for the following (May) issue.

thanks for the explanation. Since i'm not a graphic person myself, i think the information is useful for everyone.
