sorry for the noob question... how do you check that your tyre has 8% thread left????
*
Maybe he meant 0.8mm thread left.

Anyway, that experience serves as a good lesson to check the tyre threads at least once every 2 weeks. Takes less than 5 minutes to get a general idea of the thread height.

Of course if I have budget for PS4 then I won't think twice and go for that but if got much more limited budget (which is what most people here wants) then this tire is the most suitable choice.
*
I don't believe you can't afford the PS4 tongue.gif

Hahaha yeah, PS4 is always in my consideration for next change. Just that recently I got good tires together from buying used rims so haven't got the chance to try the PS4 yet, maybe in 2 years from now if no other new tires come around by then.
*
By that time, their evolution 3 generation products should be out i suppose....hankook's product is a little slow in refreshing their lineup compared to the european peers.

I think PS4 will stay for another 3-4 yrs from now but they just keep improving it bit by bit in terms of compound and construction. This is typical of tire life cycle. Yeah this V12E2 has been around for some time actually, just still a bit new coming to Malaysia market. Even worse is Bridgestone, still relying on the rather old RE003 and the outdated S001 & RE050 only.
*
I guess my writing wasn't clear earlier, my generation 3 comment was meant for the hankook.

V12evo2 already 4 years old...i guess hankook's next bet will be the ventus prime 3. Their website positioning shows it is a slight improvement on all aspects other than wear rate compared to v12evo2.

Maybe in a year or 2 there will be the V12E3. VP3 is just mid range tire, you can see this from the driving style suitability in that website, also from the speed rating which is mostly H & V and the sizes which are still available for high profiles, so it won't be better than V12E2. The other Hankook that I'd like to try is the S1E2 . It's classified as slightly higher than the V12E in terms of driving style suitability, but seems not widely available yet. This S1E2 has also came out very respectable in various comparison tests with other top level tires. Then if you want to go a bit extreme there's the RS3 which is rivaling Yokohama AD08R for sticky dry grip but at the expense of wet performance and tread wear. If I feel a bit adventurous, I might try this RS3 too, just need to be a bit mindful in the wet.  laugh.gif
*
S1e2 is even older than v12e2, older by 2 years...also based on the tyre label ratings, generally noisier and less fuel efficient.

But personally, i like the tread design of s1e2, maybe because of my preference of asymmetric patterns.

I won't go into RS3, a bit too hardcore for me.

A check with Speedline tyre shop in Surian, PJ shows Falken FK510 not avaialble yet. Shop doesnt know when it will b launched.

You can write your queries to falkenmalaysia@stamfordtyres.com

Someone should reply you within 2 working days. I also queried about fk510 and today one of their sales people mentioned it is now available in southern region.

Otherwise you check for Falken FK510. I got reply from Falken Malaysia Facebook that the FK510 is already available in Malaysia. Maybe you can try ask OS Autocare. This FK510 is supposed to be even better than the V12E2 but not sure of the price yet (I suspect slightly more expensive but still much cheaper than Michelin PS4).
*
The sales representative that i emailed mentioned that official launch of FK510 is scheduled to be around this coming july or august. It is really new that most shop don't even know FK510 exists. He also mentioned that it is recommended for buyers to request the tyre shop manager to give a call to their supplier/regional distributor even if they mentioned off hand no such stock available, as the latest list from stamford tyre just released less than 1 week.

Finally got a more definite answer towards the pricing of Falken FK510. Asked a tyre workshop that is willing to go the extra mile.

Sad to say, forget about it at the moment, it costs slightly more expensive than ps4. Stock only available in KL, other states require lead time of at least 3 days.

So for those holding their guns on this FK510, i would suggest that you hold on to your current set of tyres a little longer and wait for the official launching for this product in august.

Hopefully, by then, there would be more available stocks and promotional activities to bring the cost down to a more realistic level for this much under rated UHP tyre....

On a side note, v12evo2 selling like hot cakes now. Many shops are either low on stock or waiting for new stock arrival status. S1evo2 would be selling at slightly cheaper cost but there are no stocks for non suv version of this tyre. You should recommend yourself to get affiliate marketing fees tongue.gif

Not many selling that tire so seldom hear any users feedback here, but based on various reviews in Europe, that is also another excellent tire from Hankook. I'm personally also very curious to try it if I can find for my size at price range around the V12E2 or FK510. I think if you can find your size then you should go ahead with it.
*
S1evo2 for passenger car sizes, seems like no market, hence no distributors bringing in. Strangely, SUV sizes available and more marketable, possibly due to the tiguan having this tyre out of factory.

From my last checking a month before, it is actually cheaper than v12evo2 by a bit. Of course, no stock la.....

Tyre Pro Malaysia had given me a quote for that S1E2 size 225/45/18 for rm447/pc. They're not the cheapest by far though since they quoted the V12E2 for also rm428 while other shops can go as slow as only rm325.
*
A little odd....for the same size, the reverse case was happened on my end. I was quoted 385 for s1evo2 (albeit no stock) and 410 for v12evo2 from M One Tyres.

(Kind of regretted going to another shop to save just 10 bucks a piece, ended up with many small scratches here and there on my rims) cry.gif

who knows if another shop might scratches your rim as well?heehe..

You're right, just that the other shop more established.

Don't know why the tyre change job in malaysia (from what i see so far) quite sloppy. I know la....the rims are not yours, but still treat it well mah....i don't see any reason for them to be more cautious/gentle without sacrificing quality and speed. I remembered some people saying that some shops have a sort of plastic buffer piece to minimise scratching when need to use more force to put on the tyres.

I think the normal one would be S1E2 slightly higher than V12E2 price, especially since S1E2 sometimes are made in Europe as well.

Rim scratches difficult to avoid la, you cannot really control those things unless you go to expensive shops and keep telling them to be careful which may annoy them too.  laugh.gif
*
s1evo2 made in EU har....didn't know about that as i thought likely to be made in korea also since their high end v12evo2 already comes from korea.

It pretty much boils down to the willingness of the tyre fitters to put in effort to minimise scratches. I once had a blowout on 1 tyre and got to a nearby shop to replace that one tyre. That shop did well despite not being a big establishment or related to some franchise brand, no scratches at all on the rim.

my accord comes with odd size = 235/45/R18.

prefer quiet and comfort driving tires.

please do not suggest Michelin PS3 or PS4, used before too hard and noisy for my taste.

may i know what is the normal life span of new set of tire (normal daily city drive) = xx km? or xx years?

need your recommendation and estimated price?

Thanks in advance.

Can look into slightly upsizing the width and look into 245/45/18 products, more cars using that sizing.

What's your budget?

If you want to reduce harshness, better consider dropping to 17 inch size. Starting from 18 inch, harshness increases as this is more into performance segment (unless SUV sizing).
