What would be a comfortable or at least bearable salary range if we go to Singapore? Assuming have to pay for rental, transportation, misc. expenses, the usual drills. I actually don't know how much is the income tax, come to think about it.

1st post already got sort of minimum expenses range. income tax go google, the tax rates are lower than Malaysia.

Thanks, I just checked it.
Wow, Malaysians working under employment/work passes are exempted from paying CPF. Meaning the salary you get is what you get at the end of the month, that's good nod.gif

Reason of asking is I'm not too sure what is a reasonable salary range in S'pore. Like, is few thousands considered low or 5k considered standard...or 7k is very high, etc. Just need a picture so that I know if one is under or overpaid.

You should at least say what job you are applying and how many years of experience.
*
Sorry, I was thinking about the general masses when I typed that. I'm not applying for any jobs there now as there are none suitable available yet and I'm not sure how much I should expect myself to get.

But if I were to try, it would be for a senior role with about 8 years of working experience in IT/manufacturing industry in shared services function.

Good if you need the money now.

Some people would prefer to have CPF deductions so that they can get the Employer’s share of CPF contribution which is 16%, that they can withdraw when they reach the retirement age.
*
Oh, right...didn't think about that...but I guess since we're not a citizen of Singapore, that wouldn't matter to us.

comfortable ? S$5k maybe, if you are still single and no other commitment.
*
I don't have that much commitment. Thanks for your insight in this.

Some companies will pay you back the supposed CPF portion (my company did) and you will have a win win situation. But to get such employer is not easy...I was in luck when I got the job.

Thanks for this info!

Hey all, need some guidance here since I got an offer to work in SG. Below is the details:

Basic Pay: SGD 10,000/month
Car allowance: SGD 1,000/month
CPF employer part: SGD 775/month
Sign on bonus: SGD 10,000 with one year bond.

Vs my current pay in Malaysia:
Basic Pay: RM 13,000/month
Bonus: 6 months for 2012.

The only downside about the SG offer is I will downgrade my job scope & title compare to my level in Malaysia.

1. What is the tax rate for my income in SG?
2. What is the average rental for a studio house in SG?
3. My office located at Newton road, where should I rent?
*
Wow, that's a lot after you convert it back to RM.
I know the feeling of downgrading in job level...sometimes you just got to see if it's worth it when it comes to dollar and benefits. Good luck!

That's I am in dilemma. I work so hard in the past 8 years for current work level but need downgrade if go SG. Big decision.
*
Do you mind to tell me what industry you're in? 8 years and you got RM13k as basic, that's really high. And 6 months of bonus...I'm speechless, lol...
If I were you, I may go for the S'pore job. Sometimes we need to look past the job title if your goal is to earn more money. You get twice the money in RM even after minusing all the expenses in S'pore. But again, I guess you should also see if you like your new job scope.

For me I will take it. Imagine the money. (right now, I'm money driven, or at least for the next 3 years) whistling.gif
RM13,000 x 12 month + 6 months bonus = RM234,000/annum
SGD11,000 x 12 months x 2.5 = RM330,000/annum (you have extra SGD3,333/month which can be used for rental) - this haven't include AWS/bonus yet.

But then again, it depends, since you are that high up, will you be respected here after the downgrade?
Do you see any potential growing in other market instead of Singapore?
Family/Loans/anything pulling you back?

Hi, NoiZy

This may be a silly question, but I keep seeing this AWS (Average Working Schedule?) abbreviation and I'm wondering why they call it as that because it seems to me like it's just a month's bonus. Is it some American term or it's actually not the same as contractual bonus?

Thanks!

It's known as "Annual Wage Supplement".

Thanks a lot, knew it didn't sound right, lol...

QUOTE(NoiZy @ Dec 2 2013, 06:11 PM)
Argiope is right on the abbreviation.
@pinksapphire From what I've heard its pretty much like bonus, some gives extra, some gives one month.
The difference,
Monthly is the standard where you get payout every fixed date of the month, so you get 12 payouts per year.
4 week payout is there will be a payout every 4 weeks, 1 year = 52 weeks, 52 weeks = 13 payouts. (so some people told me usually AWS = 1 month, which is base on this calculation, and usually if you have this you don't have bonus, or something in that line. I'm not sure as I'm still new here, end of the year I'm still under probation)  sweat.gif

Hope I'm right and not confusing you even further
*
I wonder why they would have this Annual Wage Supplement thing. Perhaps it's a fancy way of paying the employee their bonus unsure.gif
Thanks for your explanation yea.

American companies pays weekly but most Asian companies pays monthly. So American companies use the extra 4 weeks AWS to cover the shortfall. Not a bonus.
*
Oh...so it's to make up for the so-called "loss of salary" due to the payment cycle. Meaning, we're just getting what we're supposed to get, and it's not a bonus. Meaning, it's not something extra? Sorry cuz I'm trying to understand if I'm actually making more cuz I've never gotten AWS before. sweat.gif
