Hey people, this might sound very silly but here goes! I bought a few things in Malaysia (clothes and toiletries) and will be bringing it to Singapore. Will I be taxed for GST? I have since removed the price tag and packaging if it makes any difference.

Things were fine at the immigration when I set foot into SG last week with my massive luggage. However, I wasn't aware that goods bought for own consumption is subjected to GST!

What do you guys think? Am I being overly cautious here? What is a "good"? Items to be brought into SG with their original packaging and price tag in tact? If the law is to be accounted for, wouldn't that mean personal belongings are taxable too since they were all bought at some point in time?  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

No problem one. they will only stop you if u apparently pass the gate with a trolley with boxes of same items.
I move in Singapore with a taxi fully stuffed with new and old things. They take a look asked me moving in? I said yes, smiled to me and said welcome.
immigration officers more concerns about cigarettes and alcohol. Unless you look like a drug smuggler they might touch you up a bit.

Just to be safe in case meeting new officers, just take the price tag off

I was also thinking of getting into banking sales, in fact i have attended an interview here and failed miserably due to my insignificant resume. If i am in KL, i think i can get into any major banks without any problem based on my experience but it is a different ball game in Singapore.

First, banking jobs in Sg is the upper sales jobs second only to trading firms, so you are fighting a place with the Singaporeans whom are hassle free applicant and protected species of Sg that will contribute to their singapore % workers.

Second, you will need to fight the pinoys whom are superior in telemarketing and very good looking. Looks count in sales.

And last but not least almost any position in Singapore have a lot of applicants. To be chosen you need to stand out from the rest, so you have to pull out all your ace cards right from the beginning.

the moment i walked out from the interview room i met the next applicant whom are pinoy guy with look so good i wondering why is he applying for a sales job, he is so confident that he smile at me and actually shake my hand wishing me good luck. Damn, i know i wont be getting the call that night.

*this is entirely my personal thinking and in no way backed by actual data btw banking is not a rosy industry now if you are targeting mortgage, loans and credit cards.

Lets say company A applied S-pass for me, but I yet sign any offer letter, and body checking up. (I agree to accept the job offer by them, verbally / literary)

Then I interviewed with company B, company B offered higher paid / benefits.

If I reject A now, and take B offer.

Will this bring big impacts to me (reputation, hard to find next job, etc) ?...

politely call up company A and reject the offer citing personal reason then go to B. no contract sign = no deal so no worries.

This is the reason banking and finance is the hot cake. Singapore is the asia financial center and if you are here long enough u will soon hear of someone driving big car and high flyer in some fancy nightclubs. Their job? trader or financial advisor! It is ridiculous hard to get into trading firms. Your resume has to be proven with green results and backed by strong LinkedIn connections. One of my friend got in, he did so with connection way up on the top of the firm.

I dont know about you guys, from my short working experience here in singapore, i have come to understand politic and mind games are dominant in sales environment, the higher the tighter. The amount of actings and moves is amazing. If you are used to Msia way of management or ways of doing things, you will need to start clean here and mind your steps.

Also the scandals and sex is mind blowing too tongue.gif Americans can take a backseat.
Still the rewards is worth it, Earning money here and spending it is so good compared to Msia. The internet speed here is like heaven.

(just my bias perception, gl hf)

You can try California fitness, you only need one month deposit and it is a monthly commitment unlike fitness first(money first).

Every time i go inside casino in MBS, they took my ID card and scan it. Anyone know if this is only for the casino personal data or will it be used by Sg gov, i am worried it might affect my PR application.

I never really get it why the Gov allow casino to have a huge open floor in a closed building to smoke as you pleased while every other building in Sg including pubs are strictly smoking prohibited. Money? Btw, it is a scary thought that casino is just a MRT away but luckily so far i have been lucky there.
