THIS IS AN AWESOME THREAD! I was just wondering, how much does my employer have to pay for my pass if I am employed? I tried to look for the info but couldn't get the answer. Do i need to take the fees that my employer needs to incur into consideration when we negotiate salary?

What shouldn't i take the fees for applying to a pass into account? Nanti boss said he has to pay extra to employ me compared to a Singaporean.

Levy
flex.gif  flex.gif
I can say you don't really have to worry about this. If you are called for an interview etc, that means they have already considered this fact. One thing you might wanna pay attention to is that this levy is suppose to be borne by the company and not you. Some stuffs that I heard from friends of friends: When they offer you SGD2k, in actual fact its only SGD1400, while SGD600 is for the levy. Or upfront they will tell you that you will bear the levy by half/full etc. So far when I went to interview, one company did that in a subtle way, but the rest are still good. Regardless the case, just read the and initial each page before signing.
*
Thanks for the link! I noticed that it says the levy applies to work permit and s pass holders. If i get the job, i will get an E pass instead. If i am issued an E Pass, does that mean there is no levy imposed on my employer? And if so, my employer, by hiring me, even if as a "foreign worker," does not need to bear any extra charges, right?
i am sorry for being too nitpicky. I just need to know the subtle differences and different underlying costs, so that i can negotiate to my best advantage when we discuss any salary. smile.gif

Hello! According to this link: (thanks Noizy for the link)-http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/foreign-worker-levies/Pages/levies-quotas-for-hiring-foreign-workers.aspx

"employers are liable to pay monthly levies to hire employees who hold Work Permits or S Passes."

What about E passes? if i have an Epass, my employer does not have to pay for anything?
Thanks for your help!

If i am not mistaken, EP's dont have the kind of levy that WP and S Pass have due to the sg gomen discouraging firms from hiring ppl with those backgrounds.
*
Greats! So actually there is no "extra burden" for my employer right? (apart from paying my salary)

If your paid the minimum of 3.5K on an EP, there are some people i know on S Pass who easily make more than that. Mainly engineering background as supervisors.

Uhm, don't know why are you so paranoid. People have been answering, employers need not pay levy for EP holders. If the "extra burden" that you are referring to is the levy, then yes, you are right.

Thanks! I am really hoping to get this job inSG. However I have heard that it is now a lot harder for foreigners to work there cuz of all the new regulations. There is also the quota system right? I am looking to do finance and entering in as a fresh grad. So i dont have to worry about levy but what about quota? Will have interview soon and knowing all these will help!

That is for the company to worry about and not you. In addition to your salary, a company needs to pay for real estate i.e. office rental, provide you with a computer, desk space, chair, medical plan, etc etc, do you need to worry about all these costs as well? No, right? Quota, levies, etc all also let the company worry about it not you.

Isnt quota/ levy what makss companies hesistant in hiring foreigners for jobs that singaporens would want too?

HI everyone. Page the 1st page it says we can be in singapore 60 out of every 90 days. So if i entered singapore on 1/1, i could stay 60 days from 1/1-31/3, then it "renews" on 1/4, right?

it means for every past 90 days, you are only allowed to be in sg for 60 days
if say u enter on 1/1 and left on 7/1 then came back on 7/2 and stayed until 31/3
when april comes, you can only stay for 1 week
PS: this is just a rough estimation..for more accurate calculation...use the calendar or see what the immigration officer tells u when u "re-enter"
*
I'm still a little bit confused here. Every 90 days, so from 1/1-31/3, it's 90 days there. I can stay for 60 days within this period, right?
Since 1/1-31/3 is a 90 day cycle, doesn't the new cycle start on 1/4, which means i can stay for another 60 days from 1/4-29/6?

They don't have a cut-off date for these kind of things.

eg:
Entered 3/1, exit 21/1 (19 days)
Entered 1/2, exit 25/2 (25 days) = 44 days total
Entered 1/3, MUST exit 16/3 (16 days) = total 60 days

Your next re-entry will be on 3/4 because 3/1 - 3/4 is 90 days (assuming Feb has 28 days)

Assuming you didn't re-enter on 3/4, but re-enter on 10/4 instead, you must exit by 28/4 as you've used up 60 days.
Counting the re-entry date on 1/2, you have cumulated yet another 60 out of 90 days stay.

If you literally want a fresh 60 days, ensure you did not enter SG for 90 continuous days.

This is sort of like compounding days, some guys from Agencies who liaise with MOM taught me this calculation. Similar to the demerit points on Malaysian Driver's License.

Its easier to explain this by simply drawing a  few lines then using words. Hope you get the picture.

p/s: This is not info from Custom or anything, just some people who liaise with MOM, even they might be wrong or info has been updated etc.
But easiest and surest way of em all, ask the officer who is stamping for you, if you are shy, go find does who are on guard/patrol duty, ask politely and most people will be more then happy to help.
*
Thanks! this is really helpful.
So, the way I see it is: A+B+C (90 days), then a new entry B+C+D (90 days), then C+D+E (90 days), and the new "60 out of 90 days" cycle will only be renewed if I have a 90 day hiatus, right?

I am looking for a job and wish to stay around here while doing it. Any extension pass that I can apply too?
Once again thanks so much for your help!

hey, i have gone to ICA and asked about the deal for the 60/90 day restriction.
-days are calculated backwards in month-term
for example, you are in singapore in march, so to do it backwards, do march, february, january.

say you stayed in singapore in march for 20 days, february for 10 days, january for 15 days: 20+10+15=45, so you have only 15 days left. you cannot be in singaore for a whole month once you finish the 60 days.

in april, you stay for 10 days. april+march+february: 10+20+10=50, so you have 10 days.

in may, stay for 15 days. may+april+march: 15+10+20=45 days, 15 days left.

the officer said the rule is lax for malaysians and the days you can stay eventually boils down to the days the customers officer allow you. don't know how true it is

Around SGD14K. I don't want change in Malaysia as the gap is quite big. Also, withdraw in Malaysia for my SG bank account, the rate even worst.
*
i have tried wire transfer, bank check, western union, paypal when i tried to use my foreign account's savings. what i found was that i lost tonnes when the local bank converted the $$ with their own rate instead of the spot rate.
I now withdraw money at ATM. This way, i get good rate, and i still have more after taking into account all the transaction fees my foreign bank charges.
I too think you can apply for a travel credit card that waives international transaction fees with you bank in Singapore. A credit card gives you the BEST conversion rate. Not having to carry a big sum of cash around is a big plus point too.
