QUOTE(khchong81 @ Dec 2 2013, 03:02 PM) Hey all, need some guidance here since I got an offer to work in SG. Below is the details: For me I will take it. Imagine the money. (right now, I'm money driven, or at least for the next 3 years) Basic Pay: SGD 10,000/month Car allowance: SGD 1,000/month CPF employer part: SGD 775/month Sign on bonus: SGD 10,000 with one year bond. Vs my current pay in Malaysia: Basic Pay: RM 13,000/month Bonus: 6 months for 2012. The only downside about the SG offer is I will downgrade my job scope & title compare to my level in Malaysia. 1. What is the tax rate for my income in SG? 2. What is the average rental for a studio house in SG? 3. My office located at Newton road, where should I rent? RM13,000 x 12 month + 6 months bonus = RM234,000/annum SGD11,000 x 12 months x 2.5 = RM330,000/annum (you have extra SGD3,333/month which can be used for rental) - this haven't include AWS/bonus yet. But then again, it depends, since you are that high up, will you be respected here after the downgrade? Do you see any potential growing in other market instead of Singapore? Family/Loans/anything pulling you back? This post has been edited by NoiZy: Dec 2 2013, 04:00 PM |

QUOTE(khchong81 @ Dec 2 2013, 04:10 PM) I am in FMCG industry. Background check on the company at SG, i am expected to fix a lot of problem & issue there. No free lunch. Haha.... Is money an issue to you? Loosing out on that lucrative deal in the next 5 years before you make the jump to Eu? And the jobscope was my previous role 2 years ago. I plan for a role in Europe in next 5 years. So, hard to decide and i need revert to them tomorrow. But think of it this way, you gotta gamble though. If you can solve the sh!ts in SG or better yet, make it flourish, it means you can excel in a different market (environment), wouldn't that be something to brag about when you are head-hunted/job-hunting for something in Europe? However if it fails, there goes a black-spot on your job history I think. |

QUOTE(pinksapphire @ Dec 2 2013, 05:55 PM) Hi, NoiZy This may be a silly question, but I keep seeing this AWS (Average Working Schedule?) abbreviation and I'm wondering why they call it as that because it seems to me like it's just a month's bonus. Is it some American term or it's actually not the same as contractual bonus? Thanks! QUOTE(Argiope @ Dec 2 2013, 05:57 PM) Argiope is right on the abbreviation.@pinksapphire From what I've heard its pretty much like bonus, some gives extra, some gives one month. The difference, Monthly is the standard where you get payout every fixed date of the month, so you get 12 payouts per year. 4 week payout is there will be a payout every 4 weeks, 1 year = 52 weeks, 52 weeks = 13 payouts. (so some people told me usually AWS = 1 month, which is base on this calculation, and usually if you have this you don't have bonus, or something in that line. I'm not sure as I'm still new here, end of the year I'm still under probation) Hope I'm right and not confusing you even further This post has been edited by NoiZy: Dec 2 2013, 06:13 PM |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « You lay it out nicely. I'm stuck here for a year, hoping to get a PR or something in that line. My aim will be returning into business development/strategy, I noticed the jobs I want are only open to SG/PR only. And all I'm aiming for is just an executive level. |

QUOTE(cherryl9 @ Dec 3 2013, 02:25 PM) LevyI can say you don't really have to worry about this. If you are called for an interview etc, that means they have already considered this fact. One thing you might wanna pay attention to is that this levy is suppose to be borne by the company and not you. Some stuffs that I heard from friends of friends: When they offer you SGD2k, in actual fact its only SGD1400, while SGD600 is for the levy. Or upfront they will tell you that you will bear the levy by half/full etc. So far when I went to interview, one company did that in a subtle way, but the rest are still good. Regardless the case, just read the and initial each page before signing. This post has been edited by NoiZy: Dec 5 2013, 12:21 PM |

QUOTE(cherryl9 @ Dec 15 2013, 06:00 PM) I'm still a little bit confused here. Every 90 days, so from 1/1-31/3, it's 90 days there. I can stay for 60 days within this period, right? They don't have a cut-off date for these kind of things. Since 1/1-31/3 is a 90 day cycle, doesn't the new cycle start on 1/4, which means i can stay for another 60 days from 1/4-29/6? eg: Entered 3/1, exit 21/1 (19 days) Entered 1/2, exit 25/2 (25 days) = 44 days total Entered 1/3, MUST exit 16/3 (16 days) = total 60 days Your next re-entry will be on 3/4 because 3/1 - 3/4 is 90 days (assuming Feb has 28 days) Assuming you didn't re-enter on 3/4, but re-enter on 10/4 instead, you must exit by 28/4 as you've used up 60 days. Counting the re-entry date on 1/2, you have cumulated yet another 60 out of 90 days stay. If you literally want a fresh 60 days, ensure you did not enter SG for 90 continuous days. This is sort of like compounding days, some guys from Agencies who liaise with MOM taught me this calculation. Similar to the demerit points on Malaysian Driver's License. Its easier to explain this by simply drawing a few lines then using words. Hope you get the picture. p/s: This is not info from Custom or anything, just some people who liaise with MOM, even they might be wrong or info has been updated etc. But easiest and surest way of em all, ask the officer who is stamping for you, if you are shy, go find does who are on guard/patrol duty, ask politely and most people will be more then happy to help. |

QUOTE(cherryl9 @ Dec 16 2013, 12:23 PM) Thanks! this is really helpful. I believe 60 days is enough for getting a job, I spent 1 month looking for job, and was already renting a room with my friends, so once the contract ends, I will move somewhere nearer to the work place. So, the way I see it is: A+B+C (90 days), then a new entry B+C+D (90 days), then C+D+E (90 days), and the new "60 out of 90 days" cycle will only be renewed if I have a 90 day hiatus, right? I am looking for a job and wish to stay around here while doing it. Any extension pass that I can apply too? Once again thanks so much for your help! My tips, get a SG mobtel, put that into your CV, send it out via jobstreet and you can engage EA (Employment Agency) to assist in your job hunt (don't put too much hope here). When looking for jobs, I would put higher hope to job ads that welcomes Malaysian and request go direct to HR instead of EA. EA competition in SG is very stiff. |

QUOTE(momijigari @ Dec 16 2013, 04:09 PM) Yup. didn't really know much, but the landlady gave me the contract, read through, no hidden stuff, everything clear cut, just fill in my passport and details, and I got myself a room. Shitty part is I can't cook there. Nevermind, cause I just needed a place to crash for the time being, will move out from Marsiling to either Bishan/Braddell or Buona Vista area. But that is for another time. |

QUOTE(rontan_83 @ Dec 16 2013, 08:11 PM) Not just Chinese, I met a lot Malays too, but they are not the typical Malays, these bunch are very good, maybe thats why they are here instead of back home. QUOTE(cacha1986 @ Dec 17 2013, 01:05 AM) :'(...if i have degree i only need to give my degree cert and transcript right?? others like foundation, spm and pmr i dont need that right? now that it takes me a month to get my degree english version of certificate they suggest that i should get my malay cert translated to english by certified translator, High Commission/Embassy or a notary public. Anyone have any idea about the translator thing?? anyone encountered this kind of problems before? :'(.... You will still need your SPM certificate with you, I used my Degree, but at the same time they needed my SPM too. |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Just bursting some bubbles. Haha. No worries, over here no vroom vroom as we are all quite mature and smart enough not to be that barbaric right. IMHO (I might be wrong), low-mid level job in SG are likely to be more shitty then similar jobs back in Malaysia. My current boss complains and say won't bother reading most of our mail cuz he receive 200++ emails per day, he dare to say if he read every single email he no need go lunch, everyday just read only. To his (current boss) defence, he said he has emails from Finance, Admin, Marketing, Sales, 3 Taiwan, 1 China, 1 Philippine partners, and clients. I wanted to say I last time usually liaise with Hotels all over Malaysia, 6 Event Organisers, numerous vendors, Technology team, customer service team, regional management team, marketing, product team, 160 business partners, logistic (GDex). Ok, back to main topic, job can be much tougher (culture of kiasu etc), but pay is usually higher. The time I spent liaising with one person, back in my old job I could have liaise with 3 person already. Boss say must be polite and be long-wind, must be humble and every 2-3 sentence got some wind blow people, every paragraph must got strong wind blow, blow until angkat tinggi tinggi. If no wind = rude, if rude = complain, if complain = Msia worker stupid dumb and barbaric (well, they didn't say it in that way, but they painted this picture quite clear to me, I wonder am I just unlucky to get THIS job, maybe other job not that bad) So from a 'please refer attached confirmed visual for processing, job should be done by tomorrow 3pm, if any troubles, kindly give us a call', we need to have 1 paragraph saying please please please look at the attach file, one paragraph to say please process for us, one paragraph begging the job to be done by 3pm tomorrow, and last paragraph to inform us if the lead time is too short. Ok i rant enough already, terima kasih for listening, I feel much better now. This post has been edited by NoiZy: Dec 17 2013, 06:24 PM |

QUOTE(f.e.a.r @ Dec 19 2013, 02:24 PM) Can you define what is "Typical Malays" and how could you generalized that Malay working in Singapore are "very good" ? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(Sammyking @ Dec 19 2013, 02:27 PM) No I am not holding any WP, S pass or EP. I'm going there to look for a job. "Someone who is holding password..." What do you mean by password? I think Mr. Smart is trying to say PASSPORT..... I've thought of backpackers as well but uh, I stayed before and had some bad experience so I don't think I'll be staying there again. Anywhere else besides backpackers...? Go back to Malaysia during weekend? I don't think I can since I'm there to look for jobs. I can't afford to go back Msia every weekend. Once I go there I plan to stay for up to 30 days. But I'm not too sure if that's a good idea since officers will be asking why, right? So maybe I'll split to 15days + 15 days...or something like that. Anyway, if you want the troublesome but much legal and potentially cheaper method, go rent a room in JB, travel in/out daily. Since you are not really working, you can avoid peak hours and go in after 10am, and exit at night or before 4pm. By the way, you can stay continuous 30 days, I wrote that in the white card, the custom officer only asked me to put down the address I'm staying at, even if its aunty's place. They just need to know where. |
