3 days is definitely not enuf unless u hv someone u can fall back on if u fail to find any place..

finding a place u can call home for the next 2 years is not easy and sometimes it can be stressful.. do giv urself ample time n do ur homework before the running around visiting rooms
searching is free ma.. but will they rent to you is another matter...

Thanks for your reply alaskanbunny! I share your sentiments and am extremely wary about accommodation search in foreign countries. cry.gif

Yup. didn't really know much, but the landlady gave me the contract, read through, no hidden stuff, everything clear cut, just fill in my passport and details, and I got myself a room. Shitty part is I can't cook there.  doh.gif

Nevermind, cause I just needed a place to crash for the time being, will move out from Marsiling to either Bishan/Braddell or Buona Vista area. But that is for another time.

What! I some form of identification (apart from our passport of course) is required? This is good news to me! smile.gif

Any idea on how to apply for the Singapore citizenship as a PR?
I am planning to marry my girl friend and either me or she will convert to be singapore citizen and we will buy a BTO because the current resale flats price are too high.

Ideally we plan to continue to work here for next five years after we own a HDB and will sell it off and migrate to Australia.

Anybody knows if it's possible to rent short term in Sg? I've been scouting online and realize that most rooms have contract minimum 6 months. I'm not sure if I' m able to commit 6 months to that room since I can't guarantee if I am able to find myself a job in sg. So, if anybody here have any relatives or friends who have got an extra room or space and willing to rent short term to me in sg, please let me know. I don't have many requirements for the room just that it should be tidy and clean, that's the basics.  smile.gif

Are you holding any work permit/ S pass or EP? Take note that the HDB owners are not allowed to rent out their room for someone who is holding password without valid working visa (EP, S pass etc)
You can stay in hostel for beg packers which normally charge 20sgd-30sgd per night for a person and you can go back to malaysia during weekend while hunting jobs in singapore.
However, you will need to share the room with some real travellers / tourists so you will need to sacrifice privacy during the job hunting period.

Not just Chinese, I met a lot Malays too, but they are not the typical Malays, these bunch are very good, maybe thats why they are here instead of back home.
You will still need your SPM certificate with you, I used my Degree, but at the same time they needed my SPM too.

Can you define what is "Typical Malays" and how could you generalized that Malay working in Singapore are "very good" ?

No I am not holding any WP, S pass or EP. I'm going there to look for a job. "Someone who is holding password..." What do you mean by password?

I've thought of backpackers as well but uh, I stayed before and had some bad experience so I don't think I'll be staying there again. Anywhere else besides backpackers...?

Go back to Malaysia during weekend? I don't think I can since I'm there to look for jobs. I can't afford to go back Msia every weekend. Once I go there I plan to stay for up to 30 days. But I'm not too sure if that's a good idea since officers will be asking why, right? So maybe I'll split to 15days + 15 days...or something like that.

I think Mr. Smart is trying to say PASSPORT.....

Anyway, if you want the troublesome but much legal and potentially cheaper method, go rent a room in JB, travel in/out daily. Since you are not really working, you can avoid peak hours and go in after 10am, and exit at night or before 4pm.

By the way, you can stay continuous 30 days, I wrote that in the white card, the custom officer only asked me to put down the address I'm staying at, even if its aunty's place. They just need to know where.
