Anyone driving a Malaysia plate number car in and out from Singapore on a daily basis ?
Please share your experience with the traffic at the custom every morning. (eg 6.45am)

Assuming if my calculation is correct, total minimum expenses to drive in and out for a month is SGD 576.4 (Exclude petrol, car loan & maintenance)

Please advise if there is any expenses which I have not include.

Any carpool social group (FB, etc) that is available for me to look for passengers ?

Thank you smile.gif

Refer to this website if you want to look for carpool passenger.

http://jbsglah.com/

Also remember to include RM2.90 toll at M'sia side. Of all the expenses, you will incur parking charges the most if you park in CBD area. Easily $15 - $40 depending on where you park

Lately after the 2 incidents of M'sian drivers barge through Woodlands custom, both Causeway & Secondlink is extremely congested. SG custom really paranoid in checking every single vehicles

Arriving 6:45am at Johor CIQ, you may only clear Woodlands custom at 8:30am - this is from my last few commute experience. Suggest you arrive earlier

If you require further info, welcome to PM me

I don't understand how that article is supposed to make sinkie netizens feel any better towards malaysians (and foreigners in general). That's like us saying oh wow so many Africans here but it's fine because their living conditions are sh*t back home so let's welcome them here with open arms hmm.gif

Even accounting for India's population, I think the perception is that they are grossly over-represented in Singapore banks, if not even wider and farther.

And it's not about legality (although Singapore's new Fair Employment Framework seems to take a step in that direction). It's about bias. They are not putting unqualified people in the roles which they manage or influence. It's that there is a bias towards certain candidates during the more subjective portions of the process... like interviews, final deliberation. And it's inevitable... people simply like to work (ie. hire & promote) with people whom they like and feel comfortable with.

It's in every organisation. However in Singapore,.. the PERCEPTION is that it has taken a whole new level of aggressiveness in banking. Note that I said perception (you may have experience to the contrary... although I also believe there's no smoke without fire,.. so there ya go). You just have to go to any local forum or chat board to validate it. Even the govt's lead-up comments on the Fair Employment Framework singled out banking as an industry to watch over.

Can't say much about the policy of the company, I can only say, the management knew, the board knew, the shareholder knew... since long ago. Different level has their own criteria and I am sure every level weighted the pros and cons before deciding. They only start to react after the cons is more than the pros. For my say already like no say statement, "Rest assure, we know (loooooooong ago before the public even notice it). And steps have been taken. All applications are considered on a fair basis." laugh.gif

My department deal mostly with the local and SEAs clients. As you said, people tends to like working with someone they can click with, so are the clients. We are still quite safe until the day the tycoons are all foreigners in this region... I am also lucky my boss are not those penny wise and pound foolish kind of person, few thousands difference in salary is peanut compared to the funds that come in.

Lucky no need to go there. They always send the locals to come fix my laptop.

QUOTE(robertchoo @ Mar 24 2014, 01:19 PM)
You are from HSBC, right?
I was told by my friend that the credit risk dept is majority that race.

At the end of the day there is a thousand and one reason the hiring manager can give to hire that particular person.
A person can have a certain profile or that person can have a certain amount of experience. You can't really sack a person because the hiring manager choose to hire, for example, entirely indians nationals with a certain profile. Afterall, as the hiring manager HE is the one who will be held accountable for the performance of HIS subordinate.

HR is just for formalities.

There is only one reason that is acceptable to your boss when they audit check you or the hiree can not perform. We are all employees, we can't do whatever we want, we just execute what the company policy wants.

Well, I'm not saying they are not following procedure or policy. Its just that as a hiring manager when hiring an employee , if all else being equal, tend to favour someone with similar cultural background. Its human nature. Even if it was up to you when hiring an employee and assume you short listed final 2 candidate. If 2 of this candidate are the same or about the same in terms of experience, salary and attitude, I'm sure you will go for the one with similar cultural background as yourself, correct?

looks like no❌ sign of improving, which is good. Noticed smoother traffic on BKE heading to PIE and KJE heading to Jurong. Fever accident as well. Surprisingly cut my traveling time to work as much as 10mins.

You will have to compete with those workers from China.
Work overtime, I'm talking about / more than 10 hours per day with only one rest day in a week.
If you can, you are hired ! biggrin.gif

I'm working in Legal Industry in Singapore.
Always come across cases about workers from China claiming their rights under Employment and Foreign Manpower Act.
I can tell, the only reason why China workers are so much needed here especially F&B and manufacturing industry, is because of their willingness to work without a single rest day given to them.  notworthy.gif

It very much depend on the person whether he/she want to be bias based on the similar background or not. By doing that, he/she act unprofessionally. A time bomb that one day may hit back at you. Will you put your job at risk just to bring in someone you think you can work better with from the 1-2 hours of communication? My answer - no.

I won't let myself be stuck at that scenario where all things equal and only the cultural background is different. Normally we have another round of interview for those kind of case, throw them few sets of papers and judge base on scores. If everything else fails, do coin flips, 2 out of 3. thumbup.gif
