OCBC really doing a suicide for itself

Or maybe OCBC is dying because everybody is maxing out the 5% rebate and they are making a loss? We wouldn't know for sure. But yup, my OCBC Titanium is going into cold storage next to my SCB cards.

They won't die that easily. They used to be the strongest bank in the world. Now is 2nd place I guess!
*
Usually products are axed because its loss leading. Banks hope people default so they can charge sky high interest on outstanding balance. I guess people who are smart enough to choose OCBC in the first place and max out RM50 per month won't be stupid at the same time to have outstanding balance.

Cash Rebate card not a high earning product for bank, bank charge merchant fee is about 1.5-2%
but instead of cutting 5% rebate, why not just add on 0.5% unlimited rebate to all spending except petrol, dining, groceries and utility bills?
I'm the 1st will switch all my spending to this card, easy for me to manage

I saw some ppl start booming at their FB wall d, hope more ppl will comment there, at least let other card members know about it.

I think its cause the 5% is really significant, especially for petrol. Maybank 2 AMEX is only weekend, too troublesome for most people. OCBC Titanium was a good all-round card.

So who's going over to the UOB One camp? I know I am.

I believe OCBC is prepared to lose a number of customers when they decide to revamp this. On their current OCBC Product Page it still says 5%

I guess they are banking on the fact that people would be too lazy to change and will continue to use the card since they have it. Especially those who can only have 1 credit card.

Oh well, I personally hope majority of the cardholder cold storage this card. (Yes I'm bitter, lol)

Well, if majority of the cardholder cold storage this card, that means the majority is still keeping the card and there won't a decrease in their cardholder base especially for this card.

I think action speaks the best by cancelling the card to voice the dissatisfaction over discontinuance of the 5% cash rebate.
*
I won't do that for 2 reasons.

1. The GST already paid for by OCBC, so I will keep it in case other card no CL or card got problem.
2. In case got F&B offer or discount, like the Curve rebate.

By cold storage the card, I believe OCBC will see a decline in transaction. No need to go as far as cutting it. I've never used my SCB card after getting it, only used once or twice for dining 25% off. When i call to cancel because of GST they waived it for me. LOL.

from 5% to 1% but it really depends how you use the card for, IMHO main card go for other banks that has good cash back or rewards to maximize the points then if those dan lainlain then just use this card to swipe since its auto-rebate. Better check thoroughly what's the T&C because we all know very well for sure there's T&C
*
If you spend RM1k a month, no reason to use this card at all because AEON Watami Card gives 3% for everything except petrol.
If you spend less than RM1k a month better use UOB One card cause I'm sure everybody needs to pump petrol.

OCBC Titanium 1% is on total "retail" spending, I'm not sure if it includes petrol or not.

AEON Watami > other CB card?
*
Depends on your usage. If local usage, weekdays AND weekends, and you spend at least RM1000, Watami is good choice, but you need to supplement it with a petrol card like UOB One.

If you spend mostly on weekends, nothing beats the mighty Maybank 2 Cards AMEX

QUOTE(melonlicious @ Nov 15 2013, 01:09 PM)
I have a check on UOB One card, there's a capped on every category compare to AEON Watami there will be a capped of RM150 per quarter so must be careful when choosing the right card. If you let me choose UOB or AEON definitely UOB will have the upper hand because there will be higher chances to get my rebate.

True i do agree with you, the "retail" spending in the statement is still pretty grey will have to wait for their announcement before we can make any decision

So all the taikor here has the OCBC card now?
*
If you spend RM1k a month, AEON is the better choice since the only time UOB has higher CB is with Petrol & GSC Cinema. Aeon is 3% for everything, whereas UOB is only 2% & 0.3%. Also, AEON has points, which is 0.4% cashback for Jusco vouchers, so that's an effective CB of 3.4% in total.

So it really depends what YOU spend on.

QUOTE(excelint @ Nov 15 2013, 01:11 PM)
does this mean, no more 5% cash back??
*
Yes effective 29th November 2013.

QUOTE(excelint @ Nov 15 2013, 01:17 PM)
OCBC said:
all benefits and privileges attached to the Credit Cards listed
below will be removed and replaced by the corresponding new features.

i dont quite understand.
is it OCBC remove the 1% cash back on others expenses but still 5% Cash rebate on Petrol, Groceries, Utility Bills and Dining remain?
*
No, all remove. The only benefit is 1% on retail expenses, which excludes petrol (I checked up the definition of "Retail Transactions" and according to AEON it is excluding petrol.)

QUOTE(sotong168 @ Nov 15 2013, 01:21 PM)

There're pros and cons for the new 1% on OCBC Ti. It's better if you weigh your spending properly in order to maximize whatever rebate/benefit.

Obviously, OCBC Ti is still better for dining if compared to Citibank CB Platinum and UOB ONE.
*
Not necessarily. If AMEX is accepted, Maybank 2 AMEX is better because it is 1.9% cashback with the cash vouchers, versus 1% with the OCBC Ti.

Everybody knows that my dear. You also stately clearly in your statement that if and only if AMEX is accepted. Many of us have both cards with us.
*
Well if everybody knew everything then we wouldn't need to discuss it here now do we? Oh and by the way, AEON Watami might be a better deal if one spends an average of RM1000 a month to get the 3%. But then again, everybody knows that right. rolleyes.gif
