LOL, in dreamland. In reality, 10% cashback is reasonable but bank still play smart, either cap you or tier based.

is too good to be true

if that so why not unlimited 10% cash back on any retail (include petrol, gov, ... etc) biggrin.gif

if they keep current 5% and give more on monthly cap (RM100) would be good enough rclxms.gif

New thread and probably a few members are unaware of the rules here.
No profanities allowed in any section of the Credit Card and Finance in whatsoever form!

The last few post caught some members trying to be smart and I hope this will be the last of it.

OCBC Titanium CC has been removed from OCBC Websire already.

Looks like its Good Bye to OCBC. It was a good CC, 5% rebate on Petrol, Restaurant, Telco.

http://ocbc.com.my/personal-banking/Cards/index.html

Perhaps someone can call OCBC and ask how much longer the Titanium Card features will be maintained

Updated - at 7.00 pm

Okay - I just called up OCBC to threaten to cancel my Titanium Card if the Card / Benefits are discontinued and I was told that OCBC is doing a special launch of theie Platinum Card which offers unlimited 0.50% rebate on all retail spending. Hence, for those who spend a lot, its better than the Titanium.

The Titanium Card will still continue as per normal and will be re-sold after the special promotion for the Platinum ends in end-Nov 2013

Have stressed to the CS to inform OCBC Management that there will be MANY cancellations if the Titanium Benefits are reduced.

Sekian Terima Kasih

But citibank has 1-big T&C is that your rebates must accumulate until it reaches RM50 before it will be allowed to offset against your monthly bill payable.

Hence, I will not be using my Citibank Cashback Card as I want my rebates IMMEDIATELY.

But if you combine with other category of 5% on petrol and 2% of groceries + pharmacy+ bill (using Citibank Online) and you're a big spender, reaching RM 50 per month is still possible.

It is not uncommon for card issues to revamp or remove their card(s) from the market. Foreign Banks like Citibank, HBBC and UOB revise their cards' benefits periodically and without notice. Even MBB revised the TP for government/education transactions to 2X.

The OCBC Titanium has been in existence for more than 5 years and was revamped about 3 years ago to make it a pure cash back card offering True 5% cash back. And if not mistaken, the first ever credit card to offer 5% cash back for petrol as a standard card feature.

Prior to OCBC Titanium, StanChart also had a Titanium credit card offering very good cash back on Fridays. I have awarded this said card the titled The Most Exclusive Card in Malaysia in my article Premier Credit Cards - Exclusive and Privilege Cards. The main feature of this card is that it earns the cardholder cash back up to maximum RM600/year for transaction(s) on Fridays. Now, take note, I said per year not per month, you can actually do a single transaction for RM12,000 on a Friday and you will earn cash back of RM600; but after that you can keep the card in the drawer until the card's anniversary again, haha.

And now, we lucky OCBC cardholders can brag that we also have a super duper exclusive credit card where even the super rich can't have it laugh.gif

It is no surprise that OCBC may have decided to discontinue the OCBC TMC because I bet their card department did not expect us to stop using the card once we hit the RM50 cash back cap. And I bet we LYN credit card enthusiasts have benefited thousands of Malaysians by sharing and stressing how to maximize the returns we get from CC by having both OCBC TMC and MBB 2 AMEX. And with OCBC handing out FREE cash up to RM650 to each individual OCBC TMC cardholder, I bet they are losing millions yearly.

True! Have you guys forgotten about Standard Chartered Titanium MasterCard ? That was such a short-lived card! It was in the market for less than one year or so. It was the IT card back in 2009. Standard Chartered was generous enough not to alter the benefits of the Standard Chartered Titanium MasterCard until last year.

I think Citibank is the first to offer this 5% petrol cash back as a permanent feature of its credit card. But then i'm not very sure either as it's been a few years already sweat.gif

Very true! OCBC simply is too generous with this credit card already. The 5% cash back feature is already very good and couple with this RM50 usage bonus for annual spending not less than RM10k, i'll be very very surprised if they are making lots of money with this card. OCBC should be very thankful already if the commission earned from its Titanium MasterCard cardholders is enough to breakeven!

Since OCBC Titanium MasterCard started with 5% Cashback back in Sep-2010, I've collected about RM2.1k of cash back (monthly and promotion) from OCBC Titanium MasterCard

IINM Hong Leong Essential credit card offers 1% unlimited cash back which i think is the best for big spenders who don't want any hassle and just a straightforward simple card.

actually i really wonder the economics of offering 5% cash back, i would imagine credit card issuers can earn at most maybe 1.5-2%, how are they supposed to make money from 5% cash back? even if you cap it at RM50, with any savvy consumer they'd just switch to the next credit card, so they'd never really earn anything. the same for MBB2 Amex, 5% + 5× treatspoints doesn't make sense to me. not that i'd complain lol.

the same for MBB2 Amex, 5% + 5× treatspoints doesn't make sense to me. not that i'd complain lol.

Maybank should still be easily breakeven or even make a lot of money from the commission and AMEX charges higher commission compared to VISA/MasterCard.

The Titanium Card will still continue as per normal and will be re-sold after the special promotion for the Platinum ends in end-Nov 2013

your 'continue' means is the continue of accepting new sign up for titanium?

Continue means all benefits / rebates as per normal (until further notice) but no new cards to be accepted.

Guys, please call the OCBC Call Centre and speak to the CS and threaten to cancel your CC if the current benefits are reduced.

Do it, send OCBC the message, all their calls are recorded and monitored and reports on types of calls have to be made.

Based on above statement. Does it mean that from now until end of Nov 2013 our current titanium have no benefits/ rebate?

if that so means our current statement is not getting any rebate? bank would not inform us if they will temporary remove the benefits? i am confused shakehead.gif

yes, but 5 times a month can be easily achieved if you go to buy something around rm10 per time at tesco/giant/other hypermarket for 5 times a month. laugh.gif
if you don't mind the cashier will look at you one kind, you can try rm5 per time too! whistling.gif

but for the platinum, spending 36k or 60k per month means we are spending all that we earn annually. that's CRAZY!!! vmad.gif

I applied for this last thursday at an ocbc branch, since i live near a branch it was more convenient for me. Today i got a sms telling me that my card will arrive in 7 days.

Since the benefits of this card might be gone nobody knows for certain yet, and also I just found out I won't be getting the swipe 3 times RM50 gst rebate because I applied at a branch (ridiculous), dunno if i should activate it or just leave the card in my drawer sad.gif

If OCBC decides to cancel OCBC Titanium MasterCard benefits, all the existing cardholders must be informed by post first.

It means that all our current Titanium Benefits will continue as per normal. OCBC cannot terminate the Card Benefits without prior notice to Customers.

Howeverm the CS told me, all new applications has been suspended until end-Nov as OCBC wants to promote the Platinum Card

Hence, I say, please call OCBC and voice your objection to any potential cancellation of the OCBC Titanium Card

just received letter from OCBC in the mail rejecting my application =(.
bugger MBB2 took 1 hour to approve mine and they took 2 weeks to reject...

looking at the sample appeal letter on the first page, i should go get my CCRIS report from BNM first?

and how did people who've gone through this do it? submit the appeal letter to the branch or something?

Use the feedback form on their website to send your appeal. Give good details on why they should approve you. (Good payment records, no late payments, not many commitments, etc) They will do another verification call to you after that. I did mine like that. A week after that got approved.

I just do not see a point in doing this. IF OCBC Bank is really losing money on this particular card product, they won't mind losing all existing Titanium MasterCard cardholders, frankly speaking.

the first year I joined. OCBC send me an Annual Statement but in 2-nd year, no more Annual Statement Probably cost them more to send such statements.

From a CC Company perspective, a Points System vs Cash Rebate system, a Cash Rebate is more costly cos

1) Cash Rebate is immediate payment
2) Some card holders forget to redeem and some points expire
3) Many Points System - the actual value is low cos the CC company has special arrangements, etc

But a Cash Rebate encourages ppl to spend more. But still the MDR to the CC Company vs Cash Rebate to card holder, I dare to say that > 70% of Card Members get more rebates that was OCBC earns in MDR.

So, what is OCBC earning, Simple, they hope that you overspend and cannot pay in full so they can charge you 15% interest rate. This 15% interest rate may be enough to enough to cover the 5% cash rebate if there are enough of what they called 'revolvers', people who only can pay minimum or slightly above minimum.

CC Company hate transactors, ppl who pay in full. CC Company will lose money if they are more Transactors compared to Revolvers. So, if you guys want OCBC to continue this great Card, don't pay in full. Just revolve your monthly account.

Has anyone done a Poll of Transactors vs Revolvers in LYN?

LYN CC Division is filled with ethical chaps. They will not encourage Revolvers. tongue.gif But I do revolve once in a while. Before I make any large purchases, I do a bit of calculation and see how much I can pay initially and how long do I need to finish it up. I make it a point to not exceed three times of payments to finish it up.

It seems that OCBC no longer issues OCBC Titanium mastercard. I had just visited their website, it's not there anymore, only Platinum and Gold available.
Congrats to those who manage to get their cards before the end of Titanium card!
Those who are not, let's pray for OCBC would come out with a better card.

Hence come to my earlier point that there is no point threatening them. If OCBC Bank fails balance things out and really is losing money on this card product, no amount of complain will change their decision to withdraw this card from the market (should they decide to) or to replace the Titanium MasterCard with yet another redesigned credit card with lower rewards return to the card holder.

No. Not really. The reason is quite simple too. It is because people who settle their outstanding in full every month is < those who pay only minimum of a bit more than the minimum.

I certainly would not encourage people to do that. While i do not know how many people here settle their credit card in full every month and those who don't, but one thing for sure is that majority of Malaysian credit card holders do not settle their credit card outstanding in full every month. That is according to BNM.

Wise is not attractive for light user plus the annual fee is a bomb, i think Gen X published an article on this especially on the Platinum one where the annual is dragging the rebate percentage down.

Not only the OCBC TMC, the Great Eastern Card which also offers cash back for Insurance and Education is missing.

And it is not the first time they remove a card from their website. Not to long ago, they also offered IQ credit cards.

You mean for Wise Card, there is no 'Free Annual Fee'. Almost all cards in Market is free Annual Fee right? Okay, I will discuss other Cards here but I will go to the Wise thread.

As for my previous post on Transactors vs Revolvers, guys, it was in sarcasm that I said that you guys should revolve. To digress for OCBC, even if the people Revolve, cos the Rebates are quite high, 5% and 1%, etc, unless the average Outstanding is more than RM4.0K for a monthly interest of 1.25% (Annual 15%), OCBC probably still lose $$$.

if OCBC no more 5%...then will citibank cash back platinum be a good substitute for WEEKDAY petrol spending?
and which card will be better to substitute its utilities bills, like astro, streamyx, unifi and etc, 5% rebate benefits?

I will still retain the card if it's 1% for all. RM10 monthly for insurance x 12 still give me RM120 nett smile.gif I will miss the 5% for dining alot though as most chinese restaurants here do not accept amex sad.gif

I am anticipating the revamped Platinum card to be more attractive.

you have monthly insurance of rm1000?

i will also keep if unlimited 1%, just wonder it does not include which transaction. some 1% cash back card is not include petrol. but petrol will use mbb2 amex instead, 5XTP still have 2%

Either this or the UOB One Card.

Auto-debit with MBB2 AMEX. 2% cash back at least. For utilities bills, it depends. If you are sure the MCC code is 4900, then HLB Wise VISA is the way to go.

OMG! I got to go revise all my articles that have reference to the OCBC TMC if that is the case doh.gif

Actually, ignoring AMEX cards, unlimited 1% can be considered pretty good for general local transactions. Even with the RM50 cap, the card is still good for up to RM5K/month of spending.

The OCBC Ti gonna lose its shine if the 5% is being demolished unsure.gif

I will cancel it and use MBB2cards only afterall my monthly usage is not that much, 1% discount is not attractive at all.

Yeah same here, my monthly expenditure on the essentials (petrol, utilities, groceries, food) are roughly between RM700-RM1000.

1% would give me average RM9 cashback per month, ~RM110 per year.
If no GST waiver, then I'd get about RM60 cashback in a year.

Hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that ocbc will retain the 5% cashback.

at least you can use it to pay for your insurance policies or other normal huge expenses (maybe education, furnitures, etc.) to get the 1%.

uob one card platinum and citibank cash back platinum has no difference too but they still can compete in their own way.
for example, both has the same rebate for petrol 5%, groceries 2 %, pharmaceutical 2%, telecommunication 2%, and others 0.3%.
but uob has more users for bhp (additional 2% smart$) while citibank for cinemas (buy 1 free 1).
and uob doesn't need to wait to accumulate minimum rm50 in order to receive the cash back unlike citibank.

so, it just depends on how they provide additional value on top of their card's basic features. smile.gif

the link is gone from about 20 October - 30 October
and some member reported 25 October is the last day for new application. they had revise and would like to promote their platinium card.

however, so far we only know no more new application, for the benefits still no update, so would still retain until they say something

Actually I did verify with the staff first b4 I apply at the Branch, and the staff did tell me I am entitled.... But end up with nothing...
I did question the staff who submit my application, but nothing she can help except apologise.

the TMC will be revamped alongside with other CC
just about to apply it but was told by the KK branch walk-in application at the moment is not acceptable until further notice
so until they finally launch what they have been revamping behind closed doors we are only left with 2 possible scenarios, depends on what kind of mood you have toward the future of the TMC

What i heard from an insider the 5% rebate will be continued but there will be cap in each category. So the probability to max out the cashback is getting lower unless if you are really using this card for all 4 categories

you mean something like max rebate for dining is rm10 + groceries rm10 + bills rm10 + petrol rm10 + others rm10 = total rm50 max rebate?
sounds like a good idea for a win-win situation... hmm.gif

as per mentioned before, ocbc may be suffering from huge loss due to the smart users like us who stopped using after reaching rm50 rebate and paying the full amount of our cc statement.
like most of other banks did, ocbc can just terminate the features/benefits of the card or reduce the rebate down from 5% or reduce the max capped value down from rm50.
however, with the insider's information like this, means that ocbc chose to maintain the same benefits of 5% and max capped of rm50, but only with small changes to improve members cc usage equally in all categories... in which i think is a win-win situation for both parties. at least the users still get the 5% and not lower... wink.gif

yes, that's one of the strategy to minimise their loss (if the insider news is true).
most people will not be able to get the max of rm50.

also it will be hard for one to control/limit your expenses in each category when each category has its own max rebate, so one will ended up overspent in the categories and ocbc can once again minimise their loss from there. whistling.gif

if they do cap petrol to rm10 per month then they'll be less competitive against other cards in the market for petrol.

that said though, I'm pretty most are smart enough to manage their spendings on each card to maximize the cash back / benefits

It says 1% rebate on total retail spending, does that means from our total monthly statement we get a 1% rebate?

Time to hunt for a new card.

This is absolutely bad new for those who rely it on spending for 5% cash back. No more 5% mean useless for some categories spend.

Petrol can move to UOB one card on weekdays.

What is this mean retail spend? is this mean every single spend is entitled 1% or certain categories only?

This is not good sad.gif

BTW, any more details on how will they calculate for existing cash rebate?

my next statement cycle will be 19 Nov - 18 Dec.
does this mean the current 5% category from 19 Nov - 28 Nov will entitle 5% but after 29Nov will be 1%?
and also the capped, spending on 19 Nov - 28 Nov will get RM50 max, and unlimited(?) after 29 Nov?

for the 1%, it seems like still not clear.
is it UNLIMITED? 'total spending' got EXCLUDE any kind of spending? (petrol, gov...)

This sucks. My OCBC Ti is mainly used for dining purposes. I average about 600-700 a month alone on dinning for this card. Seems like there is no card to replace it. Will keep this card until my anniversary month.

HLB Wise 10 swipes making it hard for me to achieve the quota. Maybe I will try Mach and dump my other grocery/petrol purchase (when it's not weekend/I've hit my Amex quota) into my AEON for 3%.

UOB is actually not complicated, just that they impose caps on each of the Rebate Categories. But I agree its hassle to remember the sub-limits.

Complicate is like RHB, Petrol Rebate is capped to 20% of Retail Spending.

I think it could mean "any retail swipe regardless of category" but didn't say if the 1% rebate is still capped at RM 50 max too. I think it'll still mostly be capped at RM 50 max

So far bank has already announced but not on the limit yet, still RM 50 cap or not? hmm.gif

My card's anniversary is next year's May, I'll wait till then since OCBC has already off-set for me because I spent more than RM 10k over one year. sweat.gif
In the mean time, need to look out for replacement.

checked with CS after phone call for my answer

1% will be unlimited for all retail spending
transaction of 5% category from 19 Nov - 28 Nov will entitle 5% but after 29Nov will be 1%
for capping, spending on 19 Nov - 28 Nov will get RM50 max, and unlimited after 29 Nov

i was thinking of watami card, since the 10 times on wise card is hard to achieve. sad.gif

Note that watami also required you to spend minimum 3k every quarter to be eligible for 3% rebate.

3% Quarterly Cash Rebate
Enjoy 3% quarterly cash rebate on total retail transactions outside WATAMI with accumulate spend of RM3,000 per quarter. The accumulated spend amount is inclusive of Supplementary Card spending. Rebate is capped at RM150 per quarter and will be credited into the Principal Card account.

I already prepared for the worst and indeed it is here.

I am thinking applying MBB for petrol and grocery.

Can't think of a replacement for the auto-debit for bills.

Any good ideas?

This Ti card is good for IndahWater, SAJ, MajlisPenbandaran, CukaiTanah as they earn 5% rebates.

Any other card can be used for these and earns 5% rebate?

no, even though i know we can do it that way, but i have not done it myself just yet. because all the while i am subscribed to auto-pay with ocbc titanium for both tm and tnb bills (for additional rm2 rebate from tm for using auto-pay service). i just only terminated the auto-pay recently when i heard the news about ocbc going to end their 5% rebate.

I bet this will be the first time ever that OCBC Malaysia will experience a drop in the numbers of their CC holders, and it will be a big drop. For sure this will be discussed in their management meeting and post mortem. Subsequent sweeteners maybe introduced after this, but I doubt any of it will be able to compete with their 5% rebate system

Just calculated, I already swiped almost 9K on my OCBC TI since May. Maybe I should just keep it in my wallet for another year since I will get GST waiver anyway next May. Keep it cold and hope that something good comes back.

I'll have until May 2014 before my next GST comes again. Good point. Let's hope OCBC will do something about it.

Though I know it is almost impossible... sad.gif

For the past 18 months of usage, I must say it is one of my best cards ever especially I have quite a number of utilities bills need to be paid.

Heading over to CC Recommendation Thread to get some recommendations for utilities bills rebate. biggrin.gif

pay the bills using mbb amex via maybank2u should be instant.  smile.gif

Yes. It's instant. Can confirm that.

Confirm here too. I always do it on Saturday, and transaction date is on the same day, hence 5% and 5xTP. No surprises.

You need to notify the service provider first. Otherwise they'll in dark.

bad news for all the OCBC Tit user...but just keep it as backup card for 1% unlimited cash back...same with HL essential card.
*
I was considering HL Essential on its 1% unlimited CB to cover some unexpected big bill (e.g. car repair, medical bill, furniture, laptop, etc) that can't use M2 Amex. But the rewards after AF+GST is not very encouraging.
Maybe for now I will downgrade OCBC TMC for this purpose. Sad... sad.gif
But ocbc just didn't confirm if it is cap at RM50 per month or unlimited.

go to TNB and TM first. Else you'll keep receiving msg saying that your auto debit has failed. Happened to me when I switch from gold to platinum for Maybank without cancelling the auto-debit under the Gold.

Yeah, for me need to look for alternative to pay for Municipal charges, IndahWater, SAJ, Cukai Tanah, Groceries, Chinese Medicine/Saundry Shop which qualifies for 5% rebate using OCBC Ti.

and the feature mention only that 1%.
for the annual usage bonus which suppose is a feature so thats means no more annual usage bonus to offset GST? sad.gif

Agree, the way it is explained in the PDF Doc is very confusing. When u say something is going to be discountinued and replaced with another feature, it should be clearely stated what is going to be discontinued and what are the new features.

http://www.ocbc.com.my/personal-banking/Ca...cards_more_info

Looking at this, does this mean that the "Annual Fee Free for Life" is going to be replaced or "the 1% Rebate on Retail Spending" or both. And replaced with what?

Anyone else have a different interpretation.

my understanding is:
1) the card is annual fee free (no change)
2) no more 5% category, all spending is 1% without capping.

That's a good way of looking at it. the 5% was very good for me, paid all my utility bills and restaurant. With no capping, still makes sense to me. For Hypermarket, I can still use my UOB Card

For dining I have replace this card with MACH card long time ago with 5% cashback n 10% cashback for movies. Some say WISE card is not a bad choice but its not suitable for me because I cannot fulfill its requirements.

This is ugly. In an indirect way, OCBC seems like is helping its foes (Maybank, UOB, Citi) to gain more customers.. I guess they couldn't sustain this continuous pouring of RM50 per card per month

I suppose even cutting out the 20% rebate for dining at the curve promo wasn't convincing enough for the management.

Expect a sharp drop over the year as most will still keep until GST anniversary.

From the way how they put up the table, it seems like this is also removed, nothing about that is mentioned anymore. Even GE Ti will be replaced with GE Plat.

Great Eastern Platinum Card
  • FREE for Life.
  • 1% rebate on total retail spending excluding Auto-IPP. 0.5% rebate for Auto-IPP transaction. Interest Free Automatic Instalment Payment Plan (Auto-IPP) featuring: * 6 months Auto-IPP for Great Eastern / Overseas Assurance Corporation insurance premium of RM1,000 or above in a single transaction via Auto Debit only.
Great Eastern Titanium Card
  • FREE for Life.
  • Great Eastern Titanium Cardmembers will be issued GE Platinum Cards upon expiry as OCBC will discontinue GE Titanium Card. Existing GE Titanium Cardmembers will enjoy the same feature as the Great Eastern Platinum Card.

so fast it is ending.........?, that means at most i could milk ocbc only RM650+600 before the 5% ends.

but if later on still can get 1% for retail spend, it is still slightly above the usual card's 0.5%.

NOw best cards left:
1)MBB AMex - RM50 pm + TP
2)Wise 10% -RM100 pm
3)Watami 3% = RM150 every Q.
4) RHB VS - unlimited 5% online till 31.12.2013

Tip: get 2 cards - 1 for self another for wife.

For cancellation, according to the discussion thread, just call OCBC line 1300 88 5000, right?

Of course before that must clear all your outstanding.

I haven't been using OCBC since last month. Should be able to cancel it right away?

have called ocbc this thursday and CS said i still can get 5% rebate of max rm50 between 19-28 Nov (what a short period!)

after 29 Nov transaction will become on 1%, so could have over rm50 rebate on 18 Dec

For TNB, you have to fill in a cancellation form IIRC.

You should told them to REINSTATE the 5%... main reason for cancellation. I would tell them directly.

Yes, I would tell them the real reason as well. The bank will do post mortem on reason for attrition.
Though they would already anticipated this, our feedback will be officially registered into their management radar/report/statistic. mad.gif
When they want to fight back to get back cc market share next time they will know what to offer to cc holders.

Just applied for this card few weeks ago, the OCBC personnel never even mention about this rebate discontinued thingy.

Any chance to cancel this card after approval without incurring any charges?>

Since it is still not approved, call up CS and cancel your application. Make sure you follow up.

From what I understood, the GST is imposed once the card is approved, yes.
But if there is no active transaction done on the card, basically it can be canceled without having to pay the GST.

The same applies for existing card - as long as there is no active transaction on the anniversary month, the GST can be waived if the card is canceled.

You might want to call up the CS and double confirm.

Or maybe OCBC is dying because everybody is maxing out the 5% rebate and they are making a loss? We wouldn't know for sure. But yup, my OCBC Titanium is going into cold storage next to my SCB cards.

Call CS to cancel the card. If you are being charged RM 50 GST, go and argue with them that when you sign up, the ONLY reason you want the card is because that you are interested with the 5% rebate. Now since that the 5% is gone, you feel that you are being cheated and want to cancel ASAP. Make sure you don't swipe anything or you have no more ground to argue.

Cash Rebate card not a high earning product for bank, bank charge merchant fee is about 1.5-2%
but instead of cutting 5% rebate, why not just add on 0.5% unlimited rebate to all spending except petrol, dining, groceries and utility bills?
I'm the 1st will switch all my spending to this card, easy for me to manage

I saw some ppl start booming at their FB wall d, hope more ppl will comment there, at least let other card members know about it.

Usually products are axed because its loss leading. Banks hope people default so they can charge sky high interest on outstanding balance. I guess people who are smart enough to choose OCBC in the first place and max out RM50 per month won't be stupid at the same time to have outstanding balance.

I think its cause the 5% is really significant, especially for petrol. Maybank 2 AMEX is only weekend, too troublesome for most people. OCBC Titanium was a good all-round card.

So who's going over to the UOB One camp? I know I am.

I believe OCBC is prepared to lose a number of customers when they decide to revamp this. On their current OCBC Product Page it still says 5%

I guess they are banking on the fact that people would be too lazy to change and will continue to use the card since they have it. Especially those who can only have 1 credit card.

Oh well, I personally hope majority of the cardholder cold storage this card. (Yes I'm bitter, lol)

Well, if majority of the cardholder cold storage this card, that means the majority is still keeping the card and there won't a decrease in their cardholder base especially for this card.

I think action speaks the best by cancelling the card to voice the dissatisfaction over discontinuance of the 5% cash rebate.

I won't do that for 2 reasons.

1. The GST already paid for by OCBC, so I will keep it in case other card no CL or card got problem.
2. In case got F&B offer or discount, like the Curve rebate.

By cold storage the card, I believe OCBC will see a decline in transaction. No need to go as far as cutting it. I've never used my SCB card after getting it, only used once or twice for dining 25% off. When i call to cancel because of GST they waived it for me. LOL.

OCBC is smart..
Maybe they found that they cant earn much from old cash back benefit.
As we know, merchants are paying around 1.8% to bank for each swipe, so by giving unlimited 1%, they are earning 0.8% for every swipe.
For old benefit, they are losing 3.2% for some category, and earn back if customer swipe more than 1k (Cap 50/month).
I think they already expect will lost some customer, but they surely calculate and estimate before make this big changes.
Maybe next few months when they compare their Titanium Card earning report with previous 5% benefit, found out that they earn less than that, then their management only will do something. So what we can do now is, after 29-nov, find other replacement card, reduce OCBC card usage, reduce their profit.

well, OCBC failed their business case study before introducing Ti with 5% cb biggrin.gif

their financial ppl didnt expect worst case scenario? or their mgmt doesnt like where this Ti card is heading? smile.gif

expect mass churn, or very low activity. we spend less, they earn less.

also, they should've issue a new card (with 1% cb unlimited retail spending) and maintain existing Ti card (5% cb, RM50/mo cap). this way, they can secure existing loyal Ti customer and acquire "new waterfish" customers with 1% cb card.

agree with u. i just got the info on 1% today as i was checking on increasing credit limit in this thread.

they should have maintain 5% for existing customer and issue out a new type of card of 1% rebate.

my credit limit was only RM3k and will never get RM50 rebate in 1% case. lol

Guys,
If keep continue using this card, can waive the GST (RM50)?
So far, we just need spend over RM10K per year and then will get auto waive for it, right?

Anyone know what is the new policy?

the term waive should only be used for annual fee but not for gst. annual fee is charged by the bank and the bank can waive it for you because it is within their boundary. however, there is no waiver for gst because it is charged by the government not bank. and so it is against the law for a bank to waive cc gst. the correct term should be the bank absorb the gst for you if you spend over rm10k in a year (meaning that the bank pays the gst on your behalf). icon_rolleyes.gif

the best way to achieve rm10k using this card (which starting to offer only 1% cash back) is to pay for your insurance (those insurance that don't accept amex). my annual insurance is more than rm10k already (currently subscribed to autopay with different cc). so i plan to shift all to this card. biggrin.gif

if you assume merchants are paying around 1.8% to bank for each swipe, yes, it is in the normal acceptable range of merchant fees.

however, if you assume ocbc is earning 0.8% after giving 1% rebate, no, because the 1.8% fees is shared between merchant's bank (acquiring bank), customer's bank (issuing bank) and the network (visa/mastercard/amex/etc).

which means, if the merchant machine is from mbb, your cc is from ocbc, and the network is mastercard, so the 1.8% is shared between mbb, ocbc, and mastercard. if ocbc gives you 1% out of their share, it is still equals that ocbc is not in profit or almost not in profit. they are still counting on charging the customers with interest on outstanding balance, late payment fees, and others. brows.gif

I believe that the 1.80% is the net net after sharing with Acquiring Bank and Mastercard. The rate charged ranges around 2.50% gross. So, if its an OCBC Terminal that u swipe the Titanium, OCBC will get higher than 1.80%

i suspect in the aftermath of this new policy, UOB will be the biggest beneficiary as IMHO the One card is as close as it gets.

However for utilities, there isn't really a better card even at 1% is there?

yup, of those cards, the wise card needs minimum amounts of spending, the mbb2cards only on weekends, the cashback platinum only credits the cash back upon reaching the cashback limit.

After comparing most cards, i think i going to keep this card. The 1% rebate and GST offset plus no annual fee still beats most of the cards out there.

usually one can only request for higher cl after 6 months of using the cc.
if you have any increment of your pay/salary within the 6 months, just submit and apply for higher cl.
otherwise you may also just call to ask for cl increase.
they may give you higher if you did utilised your current cl and have a good payment record.

I thought it's "2% Cash Rebate for AEON Big, Tesco, Cold Storage, Jaya Grocer and Giant" for UOB ONE? Unless not stated here it's 0.3%
*
he meant ocbc titanium is good for all other transactions (other than petrol/groceries/bills) as it offers 1% over 0.3% (citibank cash back platinum and uob one card) nod.gif

But if you read his sentence carefully (maybe I got it wrongly), he says

" For non-petrol, bills payment & groceries, this card (OCBC Titanium) still good as it offers 1% rebate over 0.3%" (citibank cash back platinum and uob one card).

OCBC Titanium 1% over all this?

GROCERIES: 2% Cash Rebate for AEON Big, Tesco, Cold Storage, Jaya Grocer and Giant
BILLS: 2% Cash Rebate for major mobile service providers AND 0.3% for OTHERS

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Seems like OCBC is getting desperate, been receiving 2 calls in 1 day.

1 is for call for cash with 5% annual interest and BT offer for 2%, while another is some insurance package.

Told them not interested and planning to cancel the card since they adjusted the rebate.

But i heard that the new rebate system look attractive for me, i means the titanium card. Because 1% unlimited cap for kind of category worr.. plus annual fees is waive also.
better than Citibank Plantinium Rewards Card, or WISE... because you need to have so many procedure in order to change the category!

I will just keep the card since my GST was paid (by the bank) on Aug, so I will keep it till next year Aug at least. 1% will be good for those place that don't accept Amex or insurance only. Even then I got other card to utilise

you will get your 5% (cap at rm50) when you swipe between 13th - 28th Nov, if you swipe 29th Nov - 12 Dec then get 1% unlimited.

so still can get your last 5% from 13th Nov - 28th Nov biggrin.gif

my cycle is 18th. so i only have 10 days, 19th Nov - 28th Nov to swipe for 5% sad.gif

Just curious, how did you all find out about the ocbc titanium taking away their cashback benefits? I do not see the info anywhere on the site: http://www.ocbc.com.my/personal-banking/Cards/index.html

Also it's stated: For everyday savings 5% rebate on dining, groceries, petrol & utility bills

Was it different previously?

ps. I'm NOT OCBC titanium cc user.

Your OCBC TMC's statement date is on 1st of every month? I requested for my statement date to be change to 1st, but the CS told me that there's no statement date that falls on 1st for me to choose from.

These are the dates available for me to choose : 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 18, 21 & 23.

If it is possible to get my statement on the 1st, I'd like to change mine to 1st as well.

last time CS answer me that transaction after 29 Nov will be unlimited on 1%. so the statement in the end could have over rm50 rebate. if you worry, just stop using after you reach rm50. i will cancel the card on next last 5% rebate rm50 anyway

the RM50 rebate per month is pro-rated, so it's unlikely to max out with only 5% rebate catergories unless ur statement date is on 29th.

for example, the statement date is 14th (half a mth to 29th), the max rebate can get from 5% is only RM25. For the rest, you need to spend 2.5k to get 1% rebate after that day.

The interface is a little silly. Click on the envelope icon inside the "Secured Message Box" at your upper right hand corner of your Homepage once you keyed in the TAC upon successful login.

After i notice titanium offers no more 5% rebate, i compared with citibank n found out no much differ according to my monthly usage around 1-3k. Titanium is all 2% rebate, plus annual gov tax rebate, citibank 5%petrol, 0.3% others. If u r not heavy card user, think again, without 5% rebate, but with gov tax rebate, it is still so far the best card offer in market smile.gif I may still keep my card. Who can tell me whether citibank can call for rm 50 gov tax waiver??

people, i just spoke with OCBC CS.

the RM50 rebate per month is pro-rated, so it's unlikely to max out with only 5% rebate catergories unless ur statement date is on 29th.

for example, the statement date is 14th (half a mth to 29th), the max rebate can get from 5% is only RM25. For the rest, you need to spend 2.5k to get 1% rebate after that day.

This would be VERY BAD.... in that case I'll stop using the card before my statement date..... Time to call in for a new card replacement brows.gif

Actually to spend RM 10k for RM 50 GST waiver, I don't know if I still can achieve that next year.

This year I can because 5% rebate is in my mind all the time... laugh.gif

Anyhow, since my GST is already paid by the bank, gonna continue keeping it until next year's May and see how it goes.

THis OCBC is cheating us now like this.

If mentioned all 5% category still can get 5% rebate till 29.11.2013, OCBC should honor that 5% and max RM50 until that date.

So if you spend RM1000 on 5% category on 15.11.2013, you should get that 5% ie RM50 on next statement date ie 14.12.2013.Why become RM25 when it was still 5% until 29.11.2013 and your spend on 15.11.2013 of RM1000 is 30days old ie 1 full month when statement date comes on 14.12.2013.

If not, you better spend only RM500 on 15.11.2013 for the RM25 CB and split your remainder RM500 spend after 29.11.2013 to get the remainder 1% CB ie an additional RM5.00. So funny if i spend RM1000 on only 15.11.2013 , by 14.12.2013 statement i get CB only RM25.

And another who split bills ie spend only RM500 on 15.11.2013 and another RM500 after 29.11.2013 gets CB RM25 + RM5 = total RM30.00. What logic can OCBC explain here? split bill pay later get more CB??

just called the CS named Thiru. He told me it is CB prorated , and i asked him by giving him example. Then he put me on hold, went checking and came back with this:

i told him, my statement date 11.11.2013, if i spend RM1000 for 5% on 28.11.13, would i get CB RM50 in my statement dated 11.12.13?

He said most likely not, becos posted date after 29.11.13 would only get 1%.unlimited 1% for everything icluding govt payment, insurance etc.

He told me to get the 5% i must spend the RM1000 well before the last date of 29.11.13. That means if i spend RM1000 on 15.11.13, sure get posted date before 29.11.13 and this i can get MAX RM50! This is not the same as the info posted above.

And he said in my coming statement dated 11.12.13 i can get total CB more than the max RM50 , as all transactions posted after 29.11.13 is entitled for the unlimited 1% CB.

please you guys go confirm further and quote that Mr Thiru where i called at 8.40Am at 1 300 88 5000

Actually I got the same information from their customer service hotline. forgot to ask who is the operator, so yeah. it's going to be RM50 + 1% unlimited that you spend.

wait until this Nov 29 for the new features before making any decision. My guess is probably they might limit 2 categories of cash back for user to choose only.

from 5% to 1% but it really depends how you use the card for, IMHO main card go for other banks that has good cash back or rewards to maximize the points then if those dan lainlain then just use this card to swipe since its auto-rebate. Better check thoroughly what's the T&C because we all know very well for sure there's T&C
*
If you spend RM1k a month, no reason to use this card at all because AEON Watami Card gives 3% for everything except petrol.
If you spend less than RM1k a month better use UOB One card cause I'm sure everybody needs to pump petrol.

OCBC Titanium 1% is on total "retail" spending, I'm not sure if it includes petrol or not.
