*Warning: This game is NOT for the faint-hearted, pregnant women and old folks with heart condition*

With that disclaimer out of the way, i therefore officially SPLOOGING on how awesome an experience with this seemingly niche and "possible sleeper hit" called Rockstar Presents Table Tennis!

Having seen FNR3 run in realtime myself, i firmly believe that nothing else could surpass its realistic intepretation of how human being can look on a video game.......until RPTT arrives!Sweat-ridden skin, ultra-realistic textures, billowing shirt with accurate physics, emotionally driven facial animation, crazy winning stances! Granted the game is able to produce such hyper-realistic looking players due to the fact that the camera focuses on only both the players, the table, and a little of the surround court, everything else is either in the shadows or not brightly lit to require proper exercising of the XB360 power. But then again, when you play this game, your focus is ON the ball , not its surround.

Aptly enough, you and the ball becomes one. When the action moves this fast, everything else beside you, your reality SHUTS DOWN, and all that matters is where you want to place the ball. 4 face buttons on theXB360 represents the 4 -spins , topspin, backspin, left and righ spins. These corresponds to how you want the ball to behave when you hit it with your paddle. The amount of spin you can apply on the ball depends on how long you charged these buttons before the ball hits your paddle, and the direction is determines by the left analog stick direction you held when you have decided which spin to execute (otherwise, the ball just charges straight forward). To counter a spin, watch the ball, for the spin colors(this corresponds to the colors of the face buttons on your controller), and execute the same spin drive (Higher level plays shows you how to use other spins to counter a an incming spin drive, depending on where you want to place the shot, where you are standing, and how much spin/tap you charged during your spin move). Wrong counterspin will result in your ball flying our of the court, or worse, setting up major pain retaliation from your opponent.

Too much powerplay and your player is locked in power fisticuffs with the opposing player? Surprise him/her with the soft shot, believe me when i say when you're back out of the table to pad your hitting when the travelling balls starts zooming past, and then all of a sudden you had to catch a soft shot, you will FEEL like lunging forward to catch the tip of your paddle on the soft shot ball. AWESOME!

Feel like RALLYING? Not driving , you lump! Pass the ball back and forth between your and your enemy, each and everytime, testing his defenses seeing if there is any break or opening he has not covered. Spin to the side, drive to the corner, soft shot past the net, play acute angle shots....ANYTHING to get him off balanced for you to get him to fumble.....either this results in him leaving wide open spaces uncovered, or the finishing move, the SMASH SHOT.

Even so, a SMASH does not always end in succumbing the opponent. A CLEVER player who had fumbled leaving himself open for a smash, will position himself to the approximate position to take the smash, and deliver a driving shot towards the smashing player himself, turning the tables against him.

The game employs gamepad rumbling to signify that you have placed too much power on your shot, or if your charged shot is angled too far away, to land inside the court, resulting in the ball landing outside the table.Very intuitive, especially when you're too excited during your smash manouver and forget hom much smash charge power you want to input into your smash. Once the controller starts rumbling wildly, either reduce the button hold/charge, or deflect your shot to a safe direction within the court.

You can play this FAST (so fast, i find myself buffering my button presses before the opponent hits his shot, or even right after i blast him with mine), or play this with finesse (spins and counterspins games can be a dizzying experience).

On my way to the last match on the Pro circuit, but that Solayman son of a b1tch is too much for me. Have to practice my Jesper properly to beat this Egyptian b*stard. vmad.gif

Also just had a match with some folks from New Zealand, and here's my report on the online play on Xbox Live. Started off well, with not much of a lag. Remember, this game plays fast, and anything played fast will potentially be ruined if the network isnt fast enough to cope up with the speed of the game. Eventually, we hit a few laggy session, and instead of being frustrated, i burst out laughing! laugh.gif Why , you ask? Because the ball now is being hit by invisible player (ball hits left, player still on the right side of the court), and sometimes, the ball path travels wildly out of the actual physics of where the ball should land, pretty much a guessing game for both of us. Your player will play fine, with no appearing-disappearing phenomenon we see on laggy game, but not the other player you're connected to. I didnt really mind since i was having a blast playing a real human player, and we both had a blast laughing ourselves silly using our headsets. That game also produced the longest rally in the game too, more than 100+ shots! Crazy sweating, swearing and yelling match! laugh.gif

Tried connecting with PSP_Boy , but every session results in failure to connect. I was worried that it might be my connection that is acting up, but everytime this happns, made it a point to sign off and test the connection to xbox Live, everything shows fine with NAT Open. unsure.gif Those few games with the New Zealanders proves that it is possible to connect (hence not the fault of not being able to connect at all) but not necesarily have the smoothest game session.

Final words, i guess this thread will remain empty till you guys get your Table Tennis fix when Rockstar announces this for the Asian region, until then, im off to spin that Solayman SOB into submission. Cheers!

LOL yeah, that's why the "Away" sign was there for a while. Was so excited , got a live good connection, so i had to try and maintain it as long as i can. The New Zealanders are sporting as well. laugh.gif

I think 1Mb is good enough, what we need is a faster, broader upload bandwidth. That is the reason why we cna t get connected or find more game hosts in the Table Tennis Network.

Im sorry, didnt mean to! * eyelids flutter innocently* laugh.gif

But seriously, what's the fun in "bragging" (if this is what everyone's implying) if i get to play alone? The whole idea of me writing this impression, is togain mindshare, get people pumped up for the game, so more can join the fun on Live. As for me and PSP_boy getting a head start with the game, that's just icing on the cake. Once everyone's settled in, i'd imagine others getting more competitive and take the game away to newer heights.

Ok lah, i'll just shut my piehole about this game. I'll just shuffle myself quietly outside.....sad.gif tongue.gif

I know i said about the discussion blanket , not talking about the game until everyone got a copy, but these quoted paragraphs perfectly describes the excitement and the glitches while playing online:-

QUOTE
But other things come into play, such as momentum, knowledge of your opponent, timing, and skill. The games aren't necessarily short, either. I got into several insanely long rallies, ascending to 86-hit, 92-hit, and 102-hit sessions. You'd finish one of these rallies and realize just how fun and addictive Rockstar's game really is. The depth is there. The game is there. The skill is there. You'd think an 11-point game would be pretty quick -- but it's not. In a really good rally, each point is a major achievement or concession. In one of my finals, I was down 7-8, and we were split in the match, 1-1. I scored two points, lost one, and then won one, making it 10-9. It was my serve. The crowd cheered my name, the music grew louder. I felt the pressure, excitement, and intensity of the moment. Every single hit was a struggle to take the point. I worked the sides, made my opponent run in for short lobs, and then forced them back into a running game, chasing the ball at each corner. I slammed it three times and he returned it three times, until finally I hit a spin at an angle he simply couldn't reach. I literally jumped out of my seat and cheered. I was sweating with nervousness and excitement. It was one of those defining videogame moments. The rally seemed like minutes, but it probably took 30 seconds. Table Tennis is filled with these kinds of moments.

The glitch i described about online Live play:-

QUOTE
The online play is almost exactly like the offline play. There are two modes, Exhibition and Timed Tournament. Exhibition is self-explanatory, and Timed Tournament enables up to eight gamers to play. The tourney is round-robin based, and the whole thing is timed (seemingly randomly at 7, 8, 9 and 10 minutes, with no manual control to set it at any time). You progress regardless of whether you win or lose, though winners end up in a different bracket and have the chance to actually win the tournament, whereas losers end up playing each other. The online gameplay feels fine. The speed is retained, as is the control and pace of the game. The only thing that could really interfere with online play is a snag that affected several of our games. Sometimes the opposite player character gets stuck in an animation. But the ball is still hit and it's still in play. You stand there in awe watching the opposite character stuck in space, and the ball is hit by a ghost arm and you lose the point. This happened a few times while we played on the test servers, and it's likely to happen in the final boxed copy, too. With this exception (and it could be a big one), the gameplay is rocking good, and you'll definitely want to get friends around for tourneys and one-offs.

Okay, am going underground now.

Still stuck with my Jesper (pronounced Yesper) on the Pro circuit. Bloody hell, Kumi is a beast at the finals! She kept on spinning to throw my Jesper off, and when she finally get what she wanted (throw my body alignment offcourse and position to one corner of the table) , she hits me with a fast topspin smash. sad.gif

Anyways, are there any advantage in doing the counterspins? I get trashed in the finals by that Jesper fella..and I'm only playing beginner tournament.

Just got off a round with Calvin.. wah.. this game is fun when the rallying gets up high. Most of the time I don't even care about the proper coutner spin. I think only certain cases you should counter with the correct counter spin.

Oh Me70610 was watching our match at times, how was it for you?

Same here. Can't see color clearly to counterspin.

Jesper - must chop, spin and soft shot. His forehand too strong for me to play play with him - get smacked! He's not too agile, so have to make him run.

Just had my moment with Table Tennis just now. The moment which makes you go "Damn this thing is simulated pretty realistically"

I was always damn impressed with one thing about Table Tennis, the net. It's not just some simple line that divides the 2 areas, it's really a piece of cloth there that diffrentiates between a win or loss.

So just now I accidentally returned a top spin with a left spin sending the ball into the net as usually the camera pans to the net and the ball lands on the middle of the net, spinning ever so gently to the left, the cloth buckles to the opponent's side a bit, but eventually bounces back and drops the ball back into my playing field.

Pure artistry moment!

My tactic is always focus top spin right and left. Hold focus as long as possible.

Is it actually worth getting? I would feel a bit crazy splashing out RM165 on a table tennis game. blink.gif

There's something seriously wrong with my Xbox Live. I can't download anything. It takes at least 547892 hours to download a 24MB file.

Its called Rockstar Table Tennis. Its a good game, with nice graphics.

It simulates table tennis very well but the downside of the game is that there is no career mode.

You basically jst take a player and try to complete circuits to unlock more player. Oh and you also unlock arenas and costumes.

LOL its like DOA except you play with bats and balls..

No split screen, but can play 2 players on single console. The player serving has his back to the camera (i.e. closer to you), so alternate view in multiplayer mode.
