Gee, I would be kicking myself for paying RM 500 more than what I did if there is no firmware emulation for games that require version 3.0 later on.

lol I still think it is insane to buy at such mad markup prices for 1.5, what if the homebrew scene dies later on? Sony is releasing firmware upgrades so often and with improvements every now and then, not to mention that all new games will require latest firmware to run.

I got mine 2.6 for RM 650, try looking around in SG Plaza, 1.5 to me at least IMHO its future is uncertain.

it means what firmware is the psp running on. 2.6, 27 cannot play homebrew (applications coded at home). 1.5 can run homebrew and ISO loader to run custom applications (other console emulators etc etc) and pirated software. Newer games will require latest firmware to play. Sony is always releasing updates every few months. As of now, no hacker has managed to crack firmware 2.5, 2.7 or 2.71 (latest). There was an exploit for firmware 2.6 on GTA LCS but now the latest releases of GTA has been patched.
The new and upcoming psp games are very enticing to say the least. Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Metal Gear Solid PO, Gran Turismo Portable, Loco Roco, GTA VCS... What do u want? Play the latest psp game or run 10-20 year old NES games and old psp games? |

yeah about there sounds right, provided the unit is like brand new. check for the dead/stuck pixels. However it may come up more over time. I had one light red stuck pixel after 2 days of purchase
But it's not detectable until I actually go and make myself look for it. |

it depends. on the latest news now, u can downgrade from 2.6 firmware and below. But as of the time of this posting, it is not possible yet to downgrade from 2.71 and 2.80 firmware. There was this h4x0rs conference somewhere where the guy said that 2.71 is a lot harder and may not be possible to break. Even the 2.6 one is considered a lucky break because of the security loophole in the GTA game.

well if bulk order should have no problems. I didn't get the accessories via bulk order. I bought 2 GB MS, I think I got screwed with the stupid data cable. my fault for not finding out about that at that moment I guess.

the guy who sold me the psp data cable left the price tag to be RM 99, then pretended to give me discount. rm 40. when in fact any common cable can use rite ? supposedly this cable one can charge as well but I never bothered with that. He pushed (tried to sell) his psp bag so many times on me but I never broke down. hahahaha. poor guy. I only bought the bare necessities and then bought 2 GB stick elsewhere in lowyet. funny how the basic pack didnt even include a data cable.

I guess the shopkeepers hope their customers don't know that 2.71 can be downgraded already, couple that with the fact that downgrading can be scary I guess they will stick to roughly the same pricing. expensive 1.5, cheaper 2.6

i see... well if it were up to me, I wouldn't trust the seller. I would look for clues in the net to verify his claim.

well pixels can come over time. doest mean it is clean from the shop it will be ok. like my case it looks fine but when I took it home there was one stuck pixel that cropped up.
doesnt mean it's factory 2.6 then it is ta-082. you have to open the umd door and peek inside to check if it is one or not. |

it's not big news because for every downgrade the user has to personally send a dump of his/her own unique firmware to ookm for him to personally create a custom softdown file just for his/her psp.

got region, but all psp models can play games from all regions. There is regioning but no region restriction. The restriction is only for UMD movies though. Of course, this applies to vanilla psps and not those who have been freed by Dark Alex
it doesnt make sense to that the thing 'isnt supported' ..... weird. What was exactly the message? This post has been edited by slickz: Jan 10 2007, 11:21 AM |
