Hi sifus,

Im thinking of changing my tyre from GoodYear brand to a much better brand like Falken/Michelin/etc. But im pretty noob and new about tyres. So, please suggest me what tyre is best for my Saga BLM M-Line with 14″ Sport rim (185/60R14) that can reduce road noise, improve fuel consumption. Max budget is RM320 for each piece.

Thank you notworthy.gif

what TS should know :
1) soft compound tyres : more grip, not long lasting, should be less noisier.
2) hard compund tyres : tend to be noisy, long lasting.
* there is no fuel efficient tyres.
* ur car is manual, so it should be fuel efficient, unless u always WOT.
* road condition is bad, so tend to be noisy, if use what kind of tyres.
* some say yoko C drive 2 good, but like i said, soft compund tyres are not long lasting ones.
* there is no perfect tyres.

got. it's called lower rolling resistance. you can "simulate" it by over inflating your tires smile.gif
tires these days especially the eco ones will have good LRR so it takes less effort to accelerate and maintaining the desired vehicle speed.

that however, *may* mean that grip may be compromised and that it will be a bit harder to stop smile.gif

btw you so free after "supposedly leaving the saga thread" until have to necro threads around? laugh.gif

RM200 per tyre. But I paid RM700 for the whole set after tradein with my 4 years old GoodYear Ducaro Ga.

Believe me, the tyre is very2 good. And it's raining seasons, drove through small flood is much better, smoother than my previous tyres.

Honestly speaking, it's a huge different for me after changing the tyres. laugh.gif

Your previous Goodyear tyre was the one given by proton or you changed it before? 100 for trade in is worth the money .

it's michelin's entry level tire that's for sure.

and the treadwear rating being almost 400, it's fairly hard too. (though not as hard as the rest of the entry level that's over 400)

Was using Falken 2 pcs 322 and 2 pcs 912.. Would say my 3rd day of using xm2 is much better in terms of nvh and grip .. One thing worrying is that the thread wear .. since I'm traveling 100-150km per day.. Might not durable as other tyre tho.. any idea how many kms it can last? Driving style: smooth pickup, never accelerate fast

I don't know why but it's depend on how you want to use your tyre/driving preference.

But one of my friend said he got his xm2 through 5 years of use, now that's amazing. He said he got this card reminding to switch/rotate the tires say every 20K km.

nct, powerblitz, myvi oem didn't last more than 2 years with me. Now trying this so called crappy falken ziex 322.

Cornering and braking distance is decent bro! That is what a tyre should have without compromising comfort and performance. If you have the budget to get ps3, by all means go for it. Ps3 is excellent in performance if it suits your driving style. Xm2 is just entry level of Michelin range.

I think previously was xm1 right? May be xm1 has harder compund compare to xm2 that's why it last longer .

XM2 should be very durable, the treadwear rating last time if i remember correctly is at 420! my previous NCT5's treadwear rating is 200 edit: 240.

if you don't drive really fast, i believe XM2 is sufficient grip one lorr. but ofcourse PS3 will have better grip la.

Hmm, yes, it must be xm1 since xm2 is new like 2011. Sorry about that. I just read what people say about 322 in forums and yea most will say it's a piece of crap. I don't know about falken higher end since I never use them.

ABout 322, used on 2008 myvi 1.3 auto. On worn tarmac the noise is unbearable plus the car's sound proofing is totally raped after 5 years. Cornering wise I can't really push it since my myvi OEM APM front absorber which I felt softer than KYB ones so I never dare myself trying too hard. On rainy day sometimes I hit 110kmh and yea there're few close call of almost aquaplaning during the heavy rain, trying to overtake with speed more than 80kmh. Thread wear too soon to tell but if it doesn't last up to 2 years than it's a crappy tire like nct5. Hey I bought them cheap RM160 a piece, can't complain much ma.

double check on the NCT 5, as 200 treadwear rating is into damn high performance tires already, and NCT5 is definitely not high performance.

240 is still pretty soft (theoretically better NVH and performance) if you ask me (anything under 300)

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...odel=Eagle+NCT5 this? 16" though, and not sure if oversea and malaysia would share the same ratings for it's various sizes.

checking the sidewall directly would be best biggrin.gif

Guess what, I used earphone as a tool to soundproof my ear when I was traveling down south to Jb.. You know the tarmac road in malacca north south highway right.. Totally unbearable I would say. That is why I changed it few days ago when I came back to selangor. However, Falken 322 and 912 lasted me for about 62k km and Ive used it for 1year 6-7 months only.. Lol

The rubber actually feels softer than most other brands. I'm using it and at earlier stage it is quiet but after some time it become noisy.

But noise from tyre not just due to rubber compound, the main culprit is the thread design and how it cancelling the noise.

You cant just change the tyre profile. Otherwise the meter will not accurate and it might affect your suspension parts also. The best is you changed to 205 55 15 so that overall diameter still about the same.

the first number, 205 or 195 is the tyre width, in millimeters. the second number, which makes it all harder, 50 or 55 or 60 is the tyre profile (sidewall height), in percentage to the tyre width. you need to maintain your sidewall height if you are not changing rim size. 205 55 is closer to your original sidewall height than 195 55.

215 55 would be much closer to your original sidewall height but whether your rim, clearance on the fender/inside can take another 20mm is another factor. one more issue is since the tyre is now wider, is the engine have power enough to move the car without giving any lag feeling to the driver become a question.

Good reply very informative, persona can take max 17inch size and 205 width tyre, my friend using persona alot using 205 55 r17 size seems dont have prob to touch fender or during cornering, just doubt that stock rim can take-it or not with the tyre width

Hi all.. I am new here.. Own BLM too.. before using stock Goodyear.. then change to Pirelli P6.. now I want to change to a new tyre but don't know what brands.. I am heavy foot driver.. some said you might want to change to directional thread instead of asymmetric or non-directional.. What is your suggestion.. One thing.. is there any chance I can change from 185/60/R14 to 195/60/R14.. are there any problem like touch inside the fender or anything else..

RM200 per tyre. But I paid RM700 for the whole set after tradein with my 4 years old GoodYear Ducaro Ga.

Believe me, the tyre is very2 good. And it's raining seasons, drove through small flood is much better, smoother than my previous tyres.

Honestly speaking, it's a huge different for me after changing the tyres. laugh.gif
