I hope people really know what they are talking about when they use the term "open source". The vast majority of people confuse open source with gratis and public domain. They are all very different things.

Hi all I'm prepping V9 tonight, and will activate when v8 hits 2500 thereabouts. I'm doing this coz I will be a bit tied up in the day time.

Do not post in v9 yet, I'm prepping and will lock it after I'm done.

In support of what antt00 and a few others said, samsung stock rom on the note phablets are streamlined and tweaked already and now note in its 3rd generation is really convenient for many functions especially s pen use.

All we really need is root access. Samsung should allow rooting with no penalty. Custom roms are quite a different matter and it can lead to problems because most drivers are proprietary on all mobile platforms.

Root + xposed framework is plenty good for self tweaking and enhancements. Now if only manufacturers could provide a backup nandroid function in stock recovery will be perfect. Much like what most pc makers provide for a recovery partition or some app that backs up your stuff before a wipe.
