Surprisingly, this is one of the most widely used jobs for DPS and yet we don't even have a discussion thread for this particular caster. What gives? doh.gif Anyhoo, since this is the first thread I would like to extend a warm welcome to all who have chose this discipline. It is a choice you have done well, for THM/BLM is the paramount of burst damage. No one else does it better than we do, and annihilation is our middle name! flex.gif rclxms.gif cool2.gif

Incidentally, I will copy and paste the skill set that will enable noobs to better handle the delicate art of obliterating our foes. I pasted this elsewhere and figured out that it might help the newer initiates to the realm of power. Have at it people! thumbup.gif

This is what you wanna do when you see an enemy that you wanna target. Tip: when your skills are in RED while targeting an enemy, it means you are not in range. Move to an optimal range when it turns white and that will be as far away from a target as you can get while still being able to attack. The further away you are, the more damage you can incur before your enemy gets to you.

Skill wise, cast your spells in this order when facing an adversary:

1.) Thunder
2.) Fire => MP left 20%
3.) Transpose => Umbral Ice
4.) Ice => MP full
5.) Repeat 2.) till 4.)
6.) Keep an eye for Thunder and re-cast when necessary

There ya go. You'll find this hardly changes even for high levels. Thunder is actually overlooked but it grants free and instant recasts, also the Scathe ability later on is invaluable to chip away really fast without cast time. I find that I mostly replace steps 2.) till 4.) for Scathe during hectic fights. When my MP goes down below 20% I just use Swiftcast and Ice spells, instant regen of MP. Anyone else have tips for THM or BLM?

Dear Sirs:

Tip for FATE (only 1 tip tongue.gif):
1- Blizzard2 all the way!!! why Blizzard2? AOE+ no MP consumption due to Umbral Ice

Tips for boss adds (useful during dungeon Boss fight)
1- Do the normal rotation (Thunder>Fire>Trans bla bla)
2-When boss summon mob around him, make sure you have full MP (in Umbral ice condition)>Transpose>Fire2 boss ass damaging add around him, making short work of them, remember Fire2 have AOE and 4-5 times Fire2 WILL kill the adds

Have fun biggrin.gif

Good tips right there Xpiredsoulz. The best for large mob FATES is always Blizzard 2, but always be careful of enemies that also hit with AOE. In some cases, using Scathe is much faster and better to reduce damage, specially if you are wielding a staff with no defense.

Also asking the veterans which stat do you think is better, Spell Speed or Crit Chance?

better go crit chance.

i always use scathe in normal battle. plus theres add 20% for crit chance for scathe. quick kill + can run from melee attacks

Dear Sirs:

A few more tips for THM survival:

1- Try to get heal spell as soon as possible like ARC Physic or CNJ Cura. It is also a good thing to get protection spells like CNJ Protect but don't even bother Stoneskin as you can only get this spell at level CNJ/WHM 34
Tips: When you need HP during fight, Sleep the mob and cast away heal spell... Trust me, you will do this often

2- As for the rewards, If you need to select between potion or ether, ALWAYS take potions, don't even bother with ether.

3- At level 30, make your chocobo a healer rather than a tank. This will be useful even when you change your class.

4- ALWAYS check your equipment ESPECIALLY your staff. Many times you will forgot to change you equipment when your level up and suddenly you realise "Why ain't I doing enought damage to mob???"... Well... this happens to me a couple of times especially if you FATE grinding biggrin.gif

Regards

Lvl 50 rotation

Lightning 3 >> Fire 3 >> fire till almost OOM >> blizzard iii >> Repeat from start

This is for single dps only, you don't wanna use transpose(due to gcd) or spam fire iii due to the long cast time and mana cost. You want to spam fire until your fire iii procs for a free cast, the overall damage from spamming fire > damage than you trying to spam fire iii.

For AOE
Fire 3 >> fire 2 till 400 ish mana >> flare >> transpose >> blizzard 2 till 3 stacks repeat from start.

Most of the time after casting flare you will be lying on the floor unless you've a really good tank or healer.

guess u miss out lightning 3 after blizzard 3...u still need to refresh your lightning dots for sure to get thundercloud buff which is awesome but the proc chance are like shit imho...
transpose is a subjective thing for lvl 50...there are times u need to use this as on the move and no mob for you blizzard 3 and for sure transpose wont be in your main rotation for lvl 50 during burning phase or patchwerk style fight..

dont forget some good survival skills like manawall which is awesome in handling physical dmg done by mobs that you accidentally aggro or on purpose

level 30
single target dps

thunder II > blizzard > transpose > fire > fire > fire > fire > > fire > transpose
