did you check how much u would have to spend to melb without using the big points ?
*
Not all seats available at 5k points - calculation is 5k per seat x 2 seats x 2 return = 20k points. The promo very clear say i have to find book 2 seats and return flight. A bit like finding gold. You have to be clear with your booking period and travel period.

I'm not sure what the deal between scb and airasia but got to look flight by flight for available seats at 5k points for both ways which can be a pain. Maybe i'm lucky and got seats and flights within my available period.

I could see most seats going within the range of 25k-40k points.

Anyway done deal. Hope you get your flights too thumbup.gif

I went through all the promo emails I received this month. Seriously damn a lot! Very tedious work to research and confirm all the terms.

There’s actually a lot more promo in the link attached in the header of each category, but I’ve picked up the stuff I would use.

Shopping (https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...ml?cat=shopping)
1. Guardian 10% rebate when you spend RM100 on weekends. I normally stocking up on the usual supplements, meds, contacts solutions and toiletries at Guardian so will ONLY do so during the weekend.
2. Tesco online free delivery for min RM80 spend. I wouldn’t buy fish or veggies (cos I’m picky), but poultry, milk, bread, canned and boxed goods are the have been good so far. I have had some delivery with wrong order but they will just minus it off the bill manually using calculator! LOLOL...

Dining (https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...html?cat=dining)
1. 15% off at Coffea Coffee. I like the coffee here. Here’s the branches https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...ning&id=0000261
2. 20% off at Rama V located next to Mercedes showroom on U-Thant. Pretty good thai food if you want to bring your chicks out https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...ning&id=0000209
3. 15% off New Shanghai in Pavi opposite Mercato or at publika. Dim Sum is so so in my opnion BUT the porridge is superb. https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...ning&id=0000233
4. 30% off just the FOOD in Backyard Pub in Hartamas. Go for big breakfast on weekends. https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/privileg...ning&id=0000162
5. 20% off at Burger King. Straight forward deal.

Entertainment
1. RM8 per ticket at Cathay Cineplex (formerly Cineleisure) + RM5 for small popcorn set. The catch is that it’s max 2 tix and set per customer per day. I just buy 2 per day.

Travel https://www.sc.com/my/traveldeals/index.html
Destinations for 20k BIG points this month. It’s the usual 2x return tix excluding all the fuel, food, surcharge and etc.
1. Colombo
2. Osaka
3. Hangzhou
4. Nagoya
5. Taipei
6. Syd, Melb, Perth, Adelaide

Please note!
Booking starts 1-14 Sept.
Travel period Sep 17 to Nov 30 2014
Login and book ONLY here!! http://www.airasiabig.com/promos/scb-travel-deal/index.html

If you have 360 reward points and want to fly, there is a conversion promo of 3k rewards points to 1k BIG points. I cleared off all my old points in the useless platinum card and will use my WorldMiles moving forward. https://ibanklite.standardchartered.com/nfs...20a20057bc57284

I called to terminate my SCB Plat on Wednesday's night but until today nobody calls me to verify. How long does it take? The reason I ask is because I'll be travelling to overseas soon and though my phone will be roaming, I don't want to pick up calls to avoid expensive charges. I'll be back only a month later...
*
I just cancelled my scb plat card this week (switched to worldmiles) . I didnt have to receive any additional calls to cancel. I did however key in by T-pin and answered some verification questions by call center.

Before i cancelled it though, i changed all my points to BIG points due to the low interchange! https://ibanklite.standardchartered.com/nfs...20a20057bc57284

Yeah, If the Card is Just One Platinum Mastercard- a Petrol CB Card (No Reward Point), with min an Accumulate Petrol Spending  RM500/month baru Dapat 4% Cashback... sweat.gif

What a Lousy Card... doh.gif
*
Actually, aside from the SCB WorldMiles i'm using, which is essentially a points/miles card, I am no longer using any other card from any other bank that reward based on points. I have really lost faith in collecting points.

Take for example, I have been citi plat loyal customer many years and accumulated quite a lot of points. I eventually used those points for shopping vouchers or electronic items for my home. But after doing some calculations, really not worth it. 25k points converts only to RM100 aeon, jusco, giant voucher. I need to spend RM25k before accumulate 25k points (excluding the rare times i get some merchant with 5x points). So on average, the points value is only RM0.004!! If you're into points, better to use MBB Amex or Citi Rewards. But then again, the financial value is still quite small. I am no longer wasting time collect these type of points. Citi is now my back up card which i use if my other card spoil or cannot read chip.

The Justone petrol card give you value of 4% OR RM12 capped for RM500 spend (assuming u spent on petrol to the limit). That is still valued at RM0.024 per dollar spent. If you drive Euro car and use RON97, this card is quite good value if you can reach the 10% RM70 cap for RM2,500 spend which returns RM0.028 per dollar spent.

There are other ways of getting more cashback with lower criteria like HLB Wise (but must swipe 10x RM50 and later pay for benefits if u select more than 3) for 10% cashback, or cashback + points (MBB amex but weekends only and it's so bloody hard to get people to take my amex!).

See whichever makes sense to you. But my 2 cents is the Justone petrol card is not too bad.

Hi,
I want to ask about "Standard Chartered Gold credit cards"
user posted image
I try to find the details about 5% cash rebate but cannot.
Anyone can tell me more about how's the 5% work?
As long as spend RM500 each month, then 5% of total bill?
Or just certain transaction only?
*
Got TnC's here https://www.sc.com/my/credit-cards/goldcard...dmastercard.pdf

From the tnc
5) Cashback
We give you cashback in the following situations:
(a) 2% cashback on your cashback transactions when you spend a minimum of
RM500 but less than RM800 per month in retail purchases (local and international) on your
CashBack Gold MasterCard as shown in your credit card statement, subject to a cap of 10
per month;
(b) 3% cashback on your cashback transactions when you spend a minimum of
RM800 but less than RM1500per month in retail purchases (local and international) on your
CashBack Gold MasterCard as shown in your credit card statement, subject to a cap of
RM 25 per month
© 5%cashback on your cashback transactions when you spend a minimum of RM1500 or
more per month in retail purchases (local and international) on your CashBack Gold
MasterCard as shown in your credit card statement, subject to a cap of RM 50 per month

What qualifies as retail purchase:-
cashback transactions means all retail purchases (local and international) but excludes all types of
transactions made at petrol stations or petrol kiosks including purchases of petrol, and any type
of insurance payments.

There isnt any spend timeframe - meaning it's counted as retail spend no matter which day you spend. So overall, it's probably better than most other cashback cards. But if you spend only RM500, you're looking at RM10 per month only (2% cashback).

Cards like HLB wise gives 10% if u meet the RM50x10 transaction on the category you have chosen.

So choice is up to you.

agreed with dining priviliages. others suck to the max. Planned to cancel my card at the end of this month

Care to share you spend behaviour? Seems rather odd that you make a blanket statement. Seems like a flame to me.

Judging from the table, it's quite easy to qualify for the 2% cashback for me. I easily spend RM500 on groceries monthly - buy baby milks also almost there already sad.gif. If i add my dining bills, easily can reach the 3% cashback. Have to make sure wife is happy.

The one thing i find scb is good for is the online banking. I can pay ALL my bills - astro, maxis, unifi, tnb, indah water, syabas online from my credit card. So if i add those bills up, i should be able to reach the 5% cashback level quite easily. No other bank I use is easier to do this. Some bank half allow to pay by card then some other biller must be from savings. Some others dont have the option to pay all biller online. I mean this is already 2014, who the hell pays bill at the shop!!! Haiyo, think of hong leong online bank oso wanna choke somebody!

All in all, I should be able to get the RM600 cashback per annum. Which is not too bad considering i dont have to make min times swipe, or shop only at certain places.

But i'm an old man with family so spend habit is quite different from youngster. Although i know some ppl can spend RM1,500 in club one night buying bottle!

If you can qualify, try go for the worldmiles as the 30k AirAsia big points is worth almost rm2k (if you take the deals offered by scb/airasia). I shared before in earlier post.

Based on the TnC. Everything counts except insurance payments and petrol.

"cashback transactions means all retail purchases (local and international) but excludes all types of transactions made at petrol stations or petrol kiosks including purchases of petrol, and any type of insurance payments."

You should get hlb wise looking from your spending. Get 10% for TNB, groceries and phone.
*
I cancelled my wise card this year after holding it for 1 year++. I agree with you that the cashback 10% is good with possibility to save up to rm1200 per year.

BUT, it's not so easy FOR ME to reach the full cashback every month due to a couple of reasons:-
- must have 10x rm50 swipe so always have to keep track of transaction count, split my grocery bills just to meet the 10x swipe. Go shopping almost one hour, then wait in line for anothert 15-20mins at Jusco, then have to split the bill. Sometimes see a lot of black face behind me when i split the bill 2-3 transaction.
- not all groceries got 10% cashback, if you see my transaction, if possible i try to stay away from jusco, giant and etc because really packed on weekend. So I like BIG grocer in publika and hero market in ttdi. No parking problem and got plastic bag on saturday with no extra charge. Go one utama on weekend is asking for suicide to me. lolol....
- Must also take note of your due date because the 10x must happen from the time payment cycle happen and not within calender month. So once payment for month made on due date, that is day 1 of the when they start counting the 10x swipe.
- not all bill payment can be done online pay from credit card - i cant quite remember if TM, syabas, astro and etc can be paid via online banking. With scb, i just go to one website, select all my biller and pay straight. Every month pay bill take me like 5 mins. Can download the estatement and file for safe keeping.
- i have to register to direct debit to credit card at maxis to enable payment via credit card.

So to me, the best card must be the one that is easiest to achieve based on your preference. So i reserve my comment to my preference and not for all ppl here.

Everything has to be posting date. Purchases over the weekend normally not posted until the Monday after the weekend.

Just got an SMS yesterday get rm500 cashback if spend rm30k on any scb card from 15 april to 15 June limited to first 100 customers. This equates to about 1.7% cashback which is not too bad. I called their call center aqnd they confirmed i still get to collect my miles on my worldmiles mastercard. so the value is probably closer to 2-2.5%

Good time to start paying those university admission bills.
