Gen-X, u got vast experience with cards,
so in card fraud transaction cases, we only need to inform the bank + sent up dispute form asap, right? no need notify other agency/police/bnm/crc unless physically stolen card right? [m worried that later they say not reverse transaction coz didnt notify so & so bla bla..die woo!]

i get many marketing calls claiming from bank/private numbers/unknown numbers so i stop answering those i dont know ; and rarely answer unknown numbers unless m expecting one; so dono if bank can claim later they tried call me but cannot get thru, but how r we to trust unknown numbers even if they can give our details as scam could have got it fr our 'clone' card eh?

damn worried man, never got fraud xperience bforew, i think amex is super 'problemo' , .. icon_question.gif thx
Bro, I had several fraud cases. Previously before there was sms alert, I only found out about people cloning my card after I got my statement. Now we have sms alert and we will know when a fraud case occurs. That is if the Card issuer allows us to set the default value. Read this thread on SMS alert.

Most banks (not all) allow us to set the sms alert default value to RM1, the banks that allow me to do so are MBB, OCBC, HLB, UOB and Alliance. Citibank can lower the default value to like RM200 or RM250 and CIMB and RHB won't like to reduce it to below RM500. MBB the easiest, just call CS and request over the phone. If you have not, do it immediately.

Only once or twice I did not receive sms from MBB for local transaction but other than that I have been receiving sms for my retail (in person) and online transactions with my MBB and UOB cards (my main cards because I get 5X points) even when I am in USA, SG or Australia without fail.

For fraud or cloning of cards, only need to call CS (number behind your card and no other number) no need to do police report. But if your card was stolen or lost first thing is call CS and then go make police report immediately.

As for those unknown/private numbers and numbers you are not familiar you can always answer them BUT never ever release any personal info to them. If they said this and that, just tell them you will call back (number behind the card once again and no other numbers). There have been cases I got call from the bank and they wanted to do verification over the phone but since I am not sure if the call is genuine, I will tell I can't release my info over the phone and said I will call CS and they will understand. And never press redial but always key in the number behind the card when calling CS - this is extremely important and therefore I keep stressing it.

If mobile numbers, maybe I won't be bothered because most probably they are pesky pest HLA agents or scamers. But you see, I have several mobile lines/phones and 99% those scam calls or sms ( i get many ) or HLA agents will call a particular line that I give out to others (say filling up forms/contests, when people ask for my contact number, contact number behind my cheques, etc), so i know it is a scam when a person calls me saying he is from the bank. One time a person said he was from RHB and the number that showed up in my phone is that of RHB CS. I believe my this number is sold to scamers and circulating round and round. For banks, I have a different line that that not many know off and if get a call from a landline on this line I am sure to pick it up.

And sometimes I do get calls from the banks when I make transactions that is out of my normal spending pattern, e.g. at jewelry outlet. The person will identify himself and would verify if I had used the card and that is all and they will never ask for my personal details.

I even got a fraud call claiming that I have Unifi bills outstanding and the number shown is similar to Unifi number at their website but I know it is a scam because my unifi bill is auto debit and I get a thank you sms from Unifi every month. Please visit my facebook account at www.facebook.com/GenXGenYGenZ and read post dated 1 September and 3 May relating to fraud. And check out the Transformer Debit Card drool.gif

I also suggest you click here and read my article Credit Card Fraud Calls and Bank SMS Alert Default Value where I mentioned about Caller ID Spoofing.

Wow, in respect of the above, I can elaborate more and write a freaking long article, hahaha. Well, i actually did published one titled Mobiile Online Fraud 2 years ago. Click here to read it.

Bro, I managed to set my limit to RM1 for both CIMB and RHB, after BNM's intervention

Thanks for the info bro, I will try and call them and this time take down the CS name and date of the conversation and make report to BNM if they still do not want to set my sms default value to RM1.

possible to email MBB credit card department to re-issue the stolen supplement credit card some times ago?

you can always email MBB for matters relating to your card.

But I find it odd that they did not issue you a replacement card withing a week of your report.

And why want email just call CS and you get the answer to your queries immediately.

That is true. Some special lucky selected customers were rewarded with 10K TP years ago when they were offered pre-approved MBB 2 Cards. No one reported this for more than a year now.

Paying online bills such unifi and tnb on saturday, will i get the 5% rebate + TP?
I remembered before it was according to the posting date, not the transaction date. Has it changed to transaction date now?

Talking about weekends.... Last Tuesday (8th Oct) I checked with Air Asia and I could get a return ticket from SG for about RM49 (to SG) and RM116 (from SG) for end of this week. So I thought might as wait till Saturday to book it and earn myself 5% cash back. Boy, did I regret big time, last Saturday (12 Oct) I booked my ticket.... I still could get a ticket to SG for RM49 but the return ticket cost me RM184 (4pm flight) and the later flights went up to RM300+!!! Serve me right for being greedy doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif Instead of earning about RM7.50 I lost more than RM50 vmad.gif

QUOTE(ronnie @ Oct 16 2013, 10:49 PM)
Their "automated free" seat allocation is very strange....
I believe if you check in later (14 days to 48 hours), you get better seat arrangements smile.gif
*
When my family flies, I noticed that if my wife web check in earlier (10 days or more before the departure date), usually they are seated in a row. And if lucky, side by side. The last trip back to Melbourne, my wife web check in like 3 days before the departure, they (my wife and 2 children) seats were scattered where one was like 10 rows behind.

Yes, AA seat allocation kind of strange. If I fly alone, most of the times I was lucky to get aisle. Once I got the middle seat and the flight was not even half full (so got to switch to the aisle seat after they close the door).

Anyway, I just published an article comparing the Maximum Effective Cash Back of Maybankard 2 AMEX versus Hong Leong Bank Wise Visa versus OCBC Titanium MasterCard.

Credit Cards' Effective Cash Back Rate

user posted image

And if you are thinking of getting the CIMB Cash Rebate Platinum for online transactions where CIMB advertised that you'll earn 5% cash back, you won't want to miss this article. I also worked out the Maximum Effective Cash Back Rate of the Alliance Platinum Credit Card which is good for those who love cash back cards and spend more than RM2K-RM3K a month. The Alliance Bank's credit cards and debit cards are also pretty good at places where our MBB 2 AMEX is not welcomed.

*
As long as pay on (if you use cheque make sure allow x days for it to be cleared) or prior to Statement Date, no interest will be imposed.

You can wait for your statement. And if you check M2U, it will mentioned Outstanding Balance and Amount Due on Due Date. You will know the difference and how much to pay after one or two statement cycles.

i know this is abit off topic, but i can't help helping other ppl to outsmart big corps...especially in this part of the forum...

try this:
when u only have 2 ppl (coz easier) try to select a random seat for one person (without paying)..make sure the seat randomly selected has an unoccupied seat beside it....choose that seat without paying...
in quick succession, for the other person....faster go and buy the seat next to the randomly selected person....voila!! u just need to pay for one seat...

(or if u understand, use 2 diff type of browsers will have 2 session, use one to lock the seat first, just like u lock the cinema seat, and buy almost at the same time)

was gonna try this out in my trip next week as we have 2 different bookings, but i was waiting till weekends, but then again my gf said it's ok to sit separately  wub.gif

i think this will work better if u check in early..do try like other forummers said, coz all these while, same booking usually sit together...
*
There were couple times where my family and my ticket were booked separately (booking months apart) BUT if my wife web check in my family and immediately followed with mine, we are seated nearby in a row. Maybe like just across the aisle.

Could it possible or anyone being waive their mastercard gst RM50?
I just received the gst charges for the 2nd year.
*
With MBB 2 Cards, spend RM2500 a year and you earned 12,500 Treats Points to offset the RM50 GST. Plus if you had used the card on weekends, you would have earned yourself RM125!

If you are concern with the RM50 GST, I suppose you not earning much in return from your Maybankard 2 Cards. I suggest you go cancel it and get a debit card.

QUOTE(fruitie @ Oct 18 2013, 10:25 PM)
No success for Maybank, most of us just redeem TP to offset that.
Used to be 10k TP but due to TP inflation, it has increased to 12.5k TP. smile.gif
*
I'll pay the RM50GST and save my TP for Enrich Miles.

My VI will take another 10 days or so to arrive apparently, I have some 150000 TP on MB2 so with the bonus 10k TP bonus on VI I should be able to redeem up to 39K Enrich miles hopefully. Will add nicely to the 60k bonus from Citibank once I get around to applying for that  rclxms.gif

Bro, you got to wait when MBB has another Enrich Miles Promo at 1U tongue.gif Looks like you won't be getting the 39K Enrich Miles from MBB so soon.

Oh, cannot redeem anytime? I've only ever done TP redemption online for vouchers (Jusco, as closest by!)
*
You can redeem anytime. But if you call the well trained CS, no way you going to get the conversion rate of 4500 for the MBB 2.

You see, the guy manning the redemption during the Enrich Promo did not get proper training from MBB management. He was well aware that the MBB 2 and VI have different conversion rate; but yet he performed the redemption at 4500 for my MBB 2. What he should have done was to separate the redemption, i.e. do it twice, one for the MBB 2 and then the VI. And the guy was really young and looked like a part-time worker to me.

Oh maybe I should elaborate further. The redemption was not done at Maybankard Center at 1st floor but at the basement of 1U where MBB set up a temporary booth just for the Enrich Miles Promo.

Not a mistake, all Maybankard credit cards (excluding Islamic Cards) share the same combined credit limit.

If We Use FD pledged to get the VI,
Is it we Still need to Pay the AF(RM 800) for MBB VI for Subsequent years, If We Spend < RM50k per Annum to get the Annual Fee Waived...??? hmm.gif
*
In my article My Son Is Going To The USA Again On Business Class, besides showing that we can get equivalent 19.19% and 12.33% cash back with the MBB VI and MBB 2 AMEX respectively when we redeem Enrich Miles converted from Treats Points for Business Class Ticket, I also mentioned that one can be issued the Maybankard Visa Infinite if we sign up for Maybank Private Banking and if can't prove our income, we can pledge FD.

The Maybankard Visa Infinite earns the card holder 5X Treats Points overseas but only 2X for local spending.

So this card is great for those who spend substantial sum of money overseas (online or in person) like in the case of rjb123 where he spend RM12K-RM15K per month on overseas transactions.

And this card is also great for Miles where he flies overseas like every other week.

But , the Maybankard VI is not good if you spend your money locally.

1. With overseas 5X Treats Points, for the VI it works out to be RM0.90 spent = 1 Enrich Mile. But for local spending where you only earn 2X TP, it works out to be RM2.25 spent = 1 Enrich Mile. Whereas our Maybankard 2 AMEX which earns us 5X TP and with conversion rate of 7000 TP = 1000 Enrich Miles works out to be RM1.40 spent locally = 1 Enrich Mile.

2. To redeem stuff other that Enrich Miles, the Maybankard VI has no advantage over the Maybankard 2 AMEX because we need the same number of points to redeem for the same item.

3. If you fly economy class with Malaysia Airlines, it may not be worth it to redeem our Treats Points for Enrich Miles. In my article titled Toshiba i5 for RM999 and Enrich Miles Redemption, I showed that we get the same "worth" when comparing redeeming Enrich Miles for air ticket versus cash voucher. Not only that, we still need to pay for surcharges and taxes when we use Enrich Miles to redeem for air ticket. For example, I still need to pay RM1,140 for surcharges and taxes when I redeem for a FREE return ticket to Melbourne. But with Air Asia, I can get return trip for less than RM1K including taxes and whatever surcharges during promo.

And if you pledge RM50K FD with Maybank, you will get Board Rate where as you can use this same money and go deposit elsewhere and earn yourself more than RM225/year.

Click here to my Fixed Deposit Page to see FD Board Rates offered by commercial banks versus FD Promotions where we can get up to 3.98% until end of October 2013.

MBB 12 Months FD board rate 3.15% versus Affin Board Rate 3.6%. That's RM225 extra money.
If compare MBB 12 months board rate versus KFH 12 Months Junior Promo FD rate 3.98%, that's RM415 FREE Extra money.

And for MBB VI annual fee 2nd year onwards, it is automatically waived with RM50K spending. Really automatically waived, no need to call CS or whatever. The real benefit on the Maybankard VI is the excellent 4500 Treats Points =1000 Enrich Miles and use the redemption to get "FREE" Malaysia Airlines Business Class when there is a promotion. I must stress only use the Enrich Miles to redeem for MA Business Class ticket when there is a promotion. For example, with best deals we can get a one way Business Class to US for 51K Enrich Miles compared to usual 200K+ Enrich Miles during peak period and last minute booking. Yes, 200,000+ Enrich miles for a one way Business Class ticket to LA.

I guess the word/term used convert is incorrect. You can apply for the Maybankard 2 Card and after you have obtained the MBB 2 Cards, first thing to do is ask them to transfer the Treats Points in your Petronas Card to the new MBB 2 Visa or MC or AMEX account. Then cancel your Petronas card.

For those who want to redeem their Treats Points and get the 10% or 15% extra Enrich Miles, the offer is good until 15 November 2013. Just call Maybank Customer Service and give them your Enrich Miles Account Number. And the Enrich Miles converted should be in your Enrich Miles Account within a week.

If you are one of those who are into Enrich Miles and what the best conversion rate from FREE credit cards, I did published an article on my Visa Infinite cards offering 5X reward points - click here to see comparison of Enrich conversion rate and other benefits between Alliance Visa Infinite vs Maybank VI vs UOB Bank VI.
