tubs should be able to drop it to sub 7. or a lighter rim like Stan's Alpha 340?

he would have to hunt for something closer to 1000grams for a complete set of wheels if he seriously wants to lob off the excess weight....

he can't complain much cos the wheels are actually mine...and it costs cheaper than a set of R3's....

weighed without skewers and rim tape... went el-cheapo with the zipp Ti skewers instead of some superlight kcnc or carbon Ti ones...

p/s: miao, you want to know the weight of this weighing scale?

actually he also has the option of token's c22a... a sub 1400gram wheel... but, i doubt he is interested in it... already complaining the bike looks weird with shallow depth rims...

think i might have a chance of getting my wheel back....

actually... the 340 is not very light...

the kinlin xr-200 is about the same weight for a fraction of the price...

Hi all,

New here. I was thinking of getting back into cycling after a looong time. Last MTB I had was back in my primary school.

So right now I want to get back into cycling (MTB). Any idea what is the best budget MTB there is on the market right now?

Prefer not expensive one since money is tight.
Thanks.

The thule gadget can be taken out completely or not? Or will stick on the car forever?

It can be removed from the receiver.

Can the receiver be removed from the car? Cuz I've seen some cars with some black stuff (looks like those meant to put bicycle) but no bicycle on it. Make the car look ugly.

how tight is tight...

budget bikes sometimes backfires on your tight budget if the stuff on the bike fails within a short period... so, you might need to think twice...

you can go as low as buying more reputable branded bikes that is non disc equipped, 8-speed MTB bikes from giant or some lesser brands but it will still cost you a whopping 1xxx...and you risk spending loads of money upgrading it sometime down the road when you get serious....

you need to go walk around a few shops to gain some insights of how low you can get and then decide if you want to start now or save up a bit more and start later with a better base....

there is an MTB thread you can check with if you want more opinions

it can range from as cheap as RM200++ all the way to RM1xxx depending on the brands.... roof mounted ones of course costs a whole lot more but it also is more flexible in case you want to change options of putting up canoes and stuff....

the hitch receiver is part of the chassis or welded to it.. it's not installed or removed by choice...

if you're still thinking on it, then you might want to consider a 2nd hand one instead. cause if you've decide to really get into it, chances are that you'll be wanting to change bikes

Got any photo sample of how it'll look on a sedan car? I can't find any sample on the net.

why don't you just give up on the hitch type since your car might not have it?

it's never gonna look nice.. it's more for function than to look good...be realistic about it...

the parts used on hypermart bikes are more or less the same... i am saying that those bikes might run into issues or like malleus says... requires adjustments, tuning and stuff like that where the hypermart guys is not equipped to deal with... it's is just a cash and carry thing with them...

what i actually meant on the reliability of parts used is actually based on the price range of those bikes where we can call them cheap enough just to take it out to buy stuff and run errands... not where you buy it from as they are most likely going to be the same grade of components...

will your usage wear your bike down?? i'd say most likely no but this things are hard to determine or gauge... it will give you a couple of years of usage at worst and a lot more if you take good care of it.... things like punctures, tire and tube replacements will be common as with any other bikes...

just, imagine the illegal workers with their daily transport bikes... you are practically buying a new bike similar to those...

any bike shops will service any bikes... it is just that they will charge you for most things if you did not buy from them... minor stuff like changing tubes and tires they do not charge you for service labour if you buy the tire or tube from them....
*
I think I will take a look around bike shops then get back to this forum,

So far I've been to 2 boutique bike shops and the cheapest one had was RM1000+ and another was RM400 (I think), I really feel noob abt the price range of bike haha

Any suggestion for place with the most basic kind of bike, stuff like light material and special functions or gears don't matter to me, haha I thought of finding those typical bike you see in Japanese movies with the basket in front Lol
