QUOTE(sHawTY @ Dec 5 2006, 06:37 PM) Look, you really don't understand my question liao... If you use common sense, obviously you would want lower latency for better performance. It's not the matter of which one you should use, but rather which one you want to use.I know can run 4-4-4-10 or 4-4-4-12 on micron rams... But my question is, which one should i use? CL4 or CL5? Please, can you please let others answer my question? This is because u understand my question at all... No offence, i'm in need of some others opinion... |

dude.... obviously you need to learn to read the FUNDAMENTAL OF OVERCLOCKING thread instead of asking such basic/simple question here and there.
and stop posting new topic all the time. |

increase little by little
up vdimm if not stable use memtest or superpi32m to test it's all basic obviously you did not try to read overclocking guide nor the ram handbook |

there are two characteristics of ram in response to voltage
1. responsive to voltage increament - usually this type of ram rarely dies if you feed volt unless it far exceeds the norm. however the current ddr2 motherboards provide maximum safe voltage except for certain extreme boards. extreme boards are lame if you pair with cheapo ram. since it's just a DS4, it's just a 'enthusiast-friendly' board. 2. not responsive to voltage increament - no matter how you feed the voltage your ram just wont go nowhere...not +0.1V... not +1.0v. these kind of ram dislike high voltage and most likely they will die if you overvolt it for too long everything else is trial and error process. |

yup... probably it's higher binned since it could be the cheapest chips among other D9Gxx like GMH or GKX.
but well... that's just my speculation. |

some chips just don't tolerate high voltage.

On AMD K8, it's almost unnoticeable unless you benchmark it.
For Intel, I don't know. |

QUOTE(Hyde`fK @ Mar 5 2007, 03:16 AM) D9 Fatboy I guess. Well, you have to snap a close up shot on the chipset for us to identify. "MICRON DDR2 512MB PC2-5300 667MHz RAM" is just a description. fatbody not fatboy the reason why the thing is called fatbody because the chip is BIG and WIDE, and it does not have any gender (which boy or girl is out of the story anyway... that chip is FAR from being fatbody, it's not fatbody at all... that if you have actually seen fatbody chips it's just the low end D9xxx, not that overclockable. quite rubbish i should say. Added on March 5, 2007, 10:35 am QUOTE(komag @ Mar 5 2007, 08:16 AM) i bought DDR2 533 KVR 1Gb x 2 ram . Now OC stable at DDR2 780 . Don't know what chipset it use . can this chipset OC to DDR2 800 or more ? you already got it in hand... just try it yourself. other people wouldn't know unless you give those to them to test.[attachmentid=200245][attachmentid=200245] the chips are labelled as PSC This post has been edited by soulfly: Mar 5 2007, 10:35 AM |

The only advantage of fatbodies is that it can run x-2-2-x latency, but at higher speeds, more or less just like the newer D9Gxx.
It's like BH-5 vs TCCD |

QUOTE(Enigmatic @ Mar 12 2007, 06:44 PM) Lurking around lowyat for the second day, still can't find any good chips. try to look for those 1GB Kingston... from my observation, a lot of the current batches use D9Gxx Micron... for example like 1GB DDR533 may use D9GCT, 1GB DDR667 may use D9GMH, and 1GB DDR800 may use D9GKX. But of course you need to look at the chips properly la.FP-C4 ones seem to be phased out and replaced with FP-Y5. That's what National Service does to you. Wastes your opportunities. =.= Trying to order something from yehlai.. Else do you have anything else to recommend Soulfly? Thanks ya. |

there are a few revision of FP-Y5
I believe the Y5 code only indicates that it's a CL5 DDR2-667 chips. those typical ones will go to value segment while the special binned ones are for high end usage |
