do u know whats the irony shawty, OCCT was recommended to me by empire2003 and acecombat as an OK solution for testing the proc and ram, And well what do u mean by 100% in a test? By the way for me, its a great solution coz having it run at orthos u would have to be there for days to see whther anything is wrong, running OCCT is an on-the-go 30/1 hour test and its easy to use as well.

You dont have to critizise my ideas, if u want to, be clear why OCCT is not a solution to testing, do not say its not a solution. without a reason.

Added on January 18, 2008, 7:13 amby the way, someone here want to take a challenge of equality where by you guys test orthos prime for 2 days and do a memtest for your ram versus OCCT for 1 hour.

(orthos prime(2 days) + memtest) vs OCCT for 1 hour

If OCCT can give u a go ahead within an hour meaning its stable, and orthos prime does the same for 2 days so does memtest, i can conclude that an hour test from OCCT is good enough than the long winded Orthos Prime and Memtest.

If it doesnt, then Shawty is right that OCCT is a no-no solution for full stress at 100%

Anyone game for this?

I'll try to make this sound as simple as possible.

OCCT was once THE stress tester but I observed it was meant as a total system stresser. However it yielded failures which were totally unrelated to 90% of daily OC usage since slight deviations in mobo reliabillity would just kick in error messages

Hence I'd say it's better to go the longer but reassuring route of ORTHOS small FFT 6 hours to stress the proc and Memtest 86+ 25 iterations for test #5 (Could be #8, my memory recollection fails me). In those instances it would be in fact easier to pinpoint which is giving you instabillity unlike OCCT which would just give you a general idea

Hurmmm people rarely use Memtest86+ anymore eh nowadays?

I do hope so. It is about time DDR2 catch up with DDR in terms of command rates......

command rates do not matter anymore currently in the sphere of RAM performance since DDR2 currently runs at twice the cycles of DDR hence slackening by abit of the command rates do not matter much (Unless you're on AMD). What is more importatnt is the throughput bandwidth of the adavanced RAM timings itself which is why I run a simple test of mem bandwidth everytime I tweak a timing

is that because AMD's got built-in memory controller inside the processor itself unlike Intel? unsure.gif

Not necessary a reason by itself but I've noticed that AMD based platforms ARE more sensitive to RAM timings in the first place. Comparing Intel to AMD platforms is an apples to oranges situation. But the general observation is based on my past experience with 3 Athlon's (AXP, 754 and 939). Current or recent gen AMD's I' haven't got the chance to fiddle with but from what I've seen, even the most minute changes like command rates matter alot. However on Intel based nowadays, command rates only gains you abit of extra throughput bandwidth which you'd ONLY notice in benches like SuperPI

Time for a new thread already and since I have no time to update the 1st page anyway whatsoever, I'd like someone volunteer to do so
