Only for the brave: Mourinho prepares for nine-game December with close shave


Bored and lonely with only four players to coach during the international break Jose Mourinho borrowed a set of hair clippers from Fernando Torres and shaved his own head in his office at Chelsea's training ground.

Like a scene from 'Taxi Driver', it depicts Mourinho psyching-up for the mid-winter slog, the hardest part of the campaign, he says, and 'only for the brave'.

The Chelsea boss is brave but not that brave. He sent a 'selfie' of new hairdo to his wife Matilde before venturing home.

'I sent a picture before I arrived to see if I could go in,' chuckled Mourinho. 'I did it myself. I asked Fernando to give me his machine and I did it myself in front of the mirror. It is nice and it is cheap. In a couple of months I will have hair again. Some people can't do it.'

'It is a period I like,' said Mourinho. 'The squad can play a role, not just the team. It is a period where only the brave can survive because it's hard. It is a period for everybody. So I try to make them mentally ready, even the people who aren't playing a lot.

'We go into the Christmas period and the accumulation of matches is so high and we do it as a special group with a special mentality, enjoying the situation and forgetting we don't have a Christmas like the Spanish, Italian and German players.

'We don't have that but we have the pleasure of playing a period that's only for the British. I like that a lot. I missed it when I was in Spain and Italy. Now I'm back, I want to enjoy it, I want the players to enjoy it, and we need a special mentality to cope with that situation.'
