Hi,

Anyone here know where to get a good beef cut for steak in Penang? Like from a butcher or supplier. Supermarkets don't really do very good.

Also, Im currently looking to get a flat iron / feather blade / blade cut for steak. Idk which term is used here or whether it's even sold here.

So far, only Cold Storage in Gurney Plaza has a better selection of beef cuts. Any other suggestions?

I've tried looking up on luckyfrozen but they seem to be dealing with wholesale only

Up this thread for new places. Giant and mydin is not helpful.

I've mentioned a few times already - Pok brothers in Glenmarie is good for wholesale BUT occasionally has some vacuum packed chilled steaks. I'm not sure what the setup is like for their Penang branch but it doesn't hurt to give them a call.

edit: never seen blade, hanger, tri tip... they tend to all be striploins, ribeye, sirloins, tenderloins for grilling

IINM got halal under them rite.

I don't normally go looking for the halal certificate when I go there but they are pork free and the stuff they sell is the same as the stuff you see in cold storage..

that's why im assuming the same, due to some products are placed in normal section of supermarkets..

+1 for Pok brothers. They'll slice thickness to your needs and vacuum seal individually for you. I find the quality of their steaks higher compared to other wholesalers like Lee's Frozen.

How was your visit to Pok Brothers? I'm interested to know if they sell in small quantities - A single cut of under 300g.

i used to get mine from Sam's groceria either in gurney paragon or tanjung bunga(this one is better IMO), the only okay-ish quality that i can access easily from where i stayed.

Cold storage, so-so, very rarely and occasionally they may have some good cuts.

But as usual, always open up and ask them if they have anything else or if you want something specific. Products on display not always updated.

Don't buy from cold storage, their meat didn't keep properly

I got my meat from fresh yield at Anson road, they are good.
