8885 is full-power-on or full-power-off only. Like a digital controller 0 or 1.

8879 has 8-stepping of power (IIRC), which is more suitable to control trains. Also, 8879 has the red-button for immediate power cut-off, in the case of near-train-collission  tongue.gif

Both can use to control up to 2 separate train without flipping the IR-channel switch.
If flip-switch, can up to 8x

nice info biggrin.gif
is the 8879 not suitable for RC a car? something like 9398...

i guess for RC a car for forward/backward and steering, only 1 8885 and 1 8884 is require (or 2 8885 and 2 8884?)

i'm also wondering is both 8885 and 8879 cannot use together?

eh... if you don't have 8879 controller, and looking to find one, maybe just buy the 7938 passenger set.
More worth it, you get another train, parts/figs, tracks...
You can also re-use the motor, IR, controller to power up your other train for testing.

Each controller (red/blue) can control 2 trains.
icon_rolleyes.gif
Required both 8879 + 8884 combo,
or 8885 + 8884 combo for the remote to work.

8879 is a bit subjective for RC car (9398). For steering is not good. Too slow.
For driving (fwd/back), the lower steps (1-4) are normally not strong enough for the motor (whatever L, XL) to power up the gears and wheels. Remember 9398 (and others) are at least 1kg in weight.

Unless you have a powerful battery pack (mod), you can use both 8885 + 8879 (and 8884).
8885 for steering.
8879 for driving.
icon_rolleyes.gif
There is tax, but I don't know and never get tax before. Last time I always de-box (Box keep at SG and ask friends to bring back in their car once a year CNY) and just bring the packs over. Not too much also, maybe just 1-2 "Tesco" plastic bags only, some put in backpack. All packs are not visible and not that obvious big-bump.

Just walk past "muka selamba" ... unless very yeong-sui (d@mn face  laugh.gif  )

But that was many years ago, at that time, the new JB CIQ is still ... public govt flat  tongue.gif

Driving past is different story...

thanks for all the info biggrin.gif
i thought the two remote (8885 and 8879) will conflict if use together hmm.gif

BTW, anyone know about asiabrick gathering? found it at their facebook...

No conflict. Can use up to 4x remote (with 4x IR) if you want. The ultimate-8043 (and 42009?) is using 3x remote.
Each IR set to different channel (1, 2, 3, 4).
Can mix remote also, whether is 4x 8885, or 4x 8879, or 2x each, as long as all on different channel.

To use 8885 and 8879,
option 1: same 1x IR on channel 1
- 8885 on channel 1, red
- 8879 on channel 1, blue
note: only one side of each remote can use. Otherwise over-ride / conflict. Only 2x control (e.g. steering & move fwd/back).

option 2: 2x IR (channel 1 & 4 each)
- 8885 on channel 1, both red & blue can use.
- 8879 on channel 4, both red & blue can use.
note: up to 4x control (can add additional control like winch, crane, boom, slew, grappler, etc.)

The problem with 8879 for steering is, at low-steps, not enough power to turn the motor. Even if motor turn, the steering is soooooo slow. Most of the time, need to do a 360 knob turn to turn left, then 720 to turn right.
With 9398 using 8885, a 90 degree turn, already achieve full left or right.

For trains, same channel also can for 2x remote. Sometimes used to over-ride the control of other people.  tongue.gif  Hand-of-God ... stop other people train to let my train go first  tongue.gif

icon_rolleyes.gif
*
haha biggrin.gif thanks for the info biggrin.gif
did not know that trains also can play that way laugh.gif
i thought both 8885 and 8879 cannot use together even controlling different functions...
looks like as long as not the same channel or same function, can use both 8885 and 8879 together...

BTW, anyone know about the 9688? it come with solar panel and quite big fans drool.gif
i wonder is this set still able to find it hmm.gif

Now every daiso I go also do not sell that big box. Smaller box they do have. I went the curve branch quite recently but they are not selling as well.

QUOTE(sherwin @ Oct 28 2013, 12:01 PM)
Seeing there was no updated listing of LLM's PAB wall contents, I've updated the PAB inventory over at Wallofbricks for those interested to know what's available:

http://wallofbricks.com/pab-display.php?co...ab_store_id=129

This is updated as of 26th Oct. LLM is giving 40% off PAB for annual pass holders till 31st Oct... after the discount some parts are actually comparable to BL's average prices. Especially the large plates, window panes, 2x2 bricks.
Some other current offers:

Build A Minifigure
Buy 5 get 1 free (RM 40)
Buy 8 for RM 50 (Annual Pass offer)

Lone Ranger sets - 40% off (unmarked offer)
Monster Fighters  (except Haunted House) - 20% off
Halloween Accessory Pack - 50% off
Business Card Holder - 50% off
Friends Pencil Holder - 50% off
Brick Calendar - 50% off

Minifigure Torch Light - buy 1 free 1

Magnets - 50% off
Star Wars
Super Heroes
Christmas Magnet - 70% off

Other offers - stationery items, fridge magnets, keychains, waterbottles - either buy 1 free 1 or some % off.
30% off books, 50% off lifestyle items - Tshirts

Minifigure Accessory Pack - buy 2 get 1 free
City Police
City Fire
Kingdoms

Chima Speedors - 30% off

Polybags - RM 10/RM5
Friends
Star Wars
Chima
Halloween
Turkey
Easter Bunny
Valentine
There is a popup tent set-up in Miniland where you'll find discounted items.
Some of the stuff are not actually marked for discount so you may actually have to ask the cashier or staff to know if there are discounts. rclxub.gif  Some examples.. Halloween accessory pack is listed as RM 59.95 in The Big Shop but its RM 29.90 in the tent shop. But if I'm not wrong the prices in all of the cashier database should be centralised so you could just buy it from the Big Shop and get the offer price.

thanks for the info notworthy.gif and very nice discount drool.gif

in my own opinion, maybe it's better to use long beam (the black one) than few beams for support...
BTW, plan to support what with this? is it put on top of the tower?

i will use 3 of those to support a box-like structure on top..

of coz it will be at logical size and the weight distributed equally to the 3 towers  flex.gif

i just worry the support itself is shaking..not rigid enough hmm.gif
single black long beam u mean? hmm.gif
notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
oh, so u will use 3 tower to support some weight on top...
if u use tower, is that means u need some space below? the tower need to reach some height?
maybe connect 3 tower together can make it better...

use long beam or axle can save some of the parts...
but if the weight is too much, maybe axle is not suitable...
maybe bricks better for weight but axle save spaces...

if u ask me, the base (most bottom part) should put some something flat, wide (maybe some plates)...
maybe this can help make the tower more stable and not shaking...
and i think it may distribute the weight instead of at a point... i'm not sure what this theory, but it is something like the rail of the train biggrin.gif

sorry if ask too much question..i just want to make sure im designing correctly and avoid wasting money to buy pieces that cant work the way i want..thanks alot..

well... maybe shorter is better...
if use shorter beam/axle, easier for customise if want to higher or lower in future...

from the picture, it seems the toothed bar is free to move at any direction... maybe should limit to either forward or backward...
the direction depend on which side u spin, clockwise or anti-clockwise...

but if the toothed bar is fixed or too much friction to move, maybe the worm gear move instead biggrin.gif

3) 3 legs support a triangle structure..

Height and width can only be estimated from the brick size hmm.gif

I thought of diagonal support but i cant find the suitable piece to use sad.gif
Thats exactly what i worry biggrin.gif maybe can put more bush at axle hmm.gif
