8885 is full-power-on or full-power-off only. Like a digital controller 0 or 1.

8879 has 8-stepping of power (IIRC), which is more suitable to control trains. Also, 8879 has the red-button for immediate power cut-off, in the case of near-train-collission 

Both can use to control up to 2 separate train without flipping the IR-channel switch.
If flip-switch, can up to 8x

eh... if you don't have 8879 controller, and looking to find one, maybe just buy the 7938 passenger set.
More worth it, you get another train, parts/figs, tracks...
You can also re-use the motor, IR, controller to power up your other train for testing.

Each controller (red/blue) can control 2 trains.

Required both 8879 + 8884 combo,
or 8885 + 8884 combo for the remote to work.

8879 is a bit subjective for RC car (9398). For steering is not good. Too slow.
For driving (fwd/back), the lower steps (1-4) are normally not strong enough for the motor (whatever L, XL) to power up the gears and wheels. Remember 9398 (and others) are at least 1kg in weight.

Unless you have a powerful battery pack (mod), you can use both 8885 + 8879 (and 8884).
8885 for steering.
8879 for driving.

There is tax, but I don't know and never get tax before. Last time I always de-box (Box keep at SG and ask friends to bring back in their car once a year CNY) and just bring the packs over. Not too much also, maybe just 1-2 "Tesco" plastic bags only, some put in backpack. All packs are not visible and not that obvious big-bump.

Driving past is different story...

No conflict. Can use up to 4x remote (with 4x IR) if you want. The ultimate-8043 (and 42009?) is using 3x remote.
Each IR set to different channel (1, 2, 3, 4).
Can mix remote also, whether is 4x 8885, or 4x 8879, or 2x each, as long as all on different channel.

To use 8885 and 8879,
option 1: same 1x IR on channel 1
- 8885 on channel 1, red
- 8879 on channel 1, blue
note: only one side of each remote can use. Otherwise over-ride / conflict. Only 2x control (e.g. steering & move fwd/back).

option 2: 2x IR (channel 1 & 4 each)
- 8885 on channel 1, both red & blue can use.
- 8879 on channel 4, both red & blue can use.
note: up to 4x control (can add additional control like winch, crane, boom, slew, grappler, etc.)

The problem with 8879 for steering is, at low-steps, not enough power to turn the motor. Even if motor turn, the steering is soooooo slow. Most of the time, need to do a 360 knob turn to turn left, then 720 to turn right.
With 9398 using 8885, a 90 degree turn, already achieve full left or right.

For trains, same channel also can for 2x remote. Sometimes used to over-ride the control of other people.    Hand-of-God ... stop other people train to let my train go first

2014 set?

I am looking for the big case in daiso as well. The only place that I saw selling is the one in sungei wang. But I have never returned yet since. That time did not buy coz was afraid it cannot fit in all the shell Lego.

Now every daiso I go also do not sell that big box. Smaller box they do have. I went the curve branch quite recently but they are not selling as well.

dono why this set dont appeal to me. Anytime i prefer the service truck. Must be the green color...

Anyhow, looking fwd to the next big technic set pixtars....

There is a popup tent set-up in Miniland where you'll find discounted items.
Some of the stuff are not actually marked for discount so you may actually have to ask the cashier or staff to know if there are discounts.   Some examples.. Halloween accessory pack is listed as RM 59.95 in The Big Shop but its RM 29.90 in the tent shop. But if I'm not wrong the prices in all of the cashier database should be centralised so you could just buy it from the Big Shop and get the offer price.

hey technic lover..is the following combination rigid? will be abit shaky? please comment and share experience

i need it as support structure for my own lego set

do advise if  got other method to reduce the pieces

i will use 3 of those to support a box-like structure on top..

of coz it will be at logical size and the weight distributed equally to the 3 towers 

i just worry the support itself is shaking..not rigid enough

Hi all

I'm thinking of opening a robotic club in my school. it's a rural school and i think the kids will love to experience and learn something like robots!

unfortunately, i have zero knowledge on this. willing to learn tho. after googling around seems like the one use in Malaysia and those robotic competition (hopefully can one day enter ) is the LEGO mindstorm series.

Is there anyone willing to share some info on this or at least show a bit of pathway to learn bout this? appreciate all help

Based on what I know is that education got a few diff sensor with home edition, a plastic tray to sort the parts, a rechargeable battery (not sure), I think u can find cheaper education set out there, sasbadi should b charging high price because they are the only appointed seller for education ev3 in Malaysia

I also heard from some expert EV3 fans, 1 set home ev3 and 1 set education ev3 combine tgt is the best for MOC

yeah, I just check BL, maybe still new, nobody selling. Or could be NiMh import/export or courier regulations.
Do note that EV3 battery pack will make the EV3 box 1 stud thicker/higher, i.e. compare with when use 6x AA.

My Technic battery pack mod in spoiler. It's previous photos, as I have not have time to work on this further. I just bought some new connectors and the 9V adapter recently from Pasar Road (Pudu).

Yup! They are going for 35% discount. There were still a lot of sets when I left (around 15 each). But then the crowd was getting bigger and Im not sure if they have any extra stocks that are not on display.
