sama just mean mr/mis, but its a very polite form, i am asking u like turtle very much ah, and the last one is welcome you. thumbup.gif  my uncle keep his 8 arapaima in his swimming pool bcos my cousins all went oversea, so the pool now just keep arapaima lo, but they can really eat a lot lo shocking.gif  shocking.gif  i only on the pump for my aro around 12 hrs per day, at nite i wil off pump.  whistling.gif  whistling.gif

jaspery, thanks for the explanation. Yes i love turtles smile.gif Wow...8 Arapaimas! drool.gif Cool...that gotta be a huge pool. Anyway if i were to put Aro in a cement tank, then on pump for 12 hours only can? unsure.gif I always like the idea of making a habitat like the mangroves for Aros and Arapaimas...

coconut, your advice is to on 24 hour ya? Errmmm...different opinion here.. rclxub.gif ...thanks for sharing your experience though icon_rolleyes.gif

kamekame sama, silver aro very easy to keep only wow, but remember to cover ur tank, it like to jump one, and they r not picky about food too, last time i kept in 4' tank, and it grow so fast, but like to bully other fish sweat.gif  n they almost eat anything fall into the tank  shocking.gif last time i can put my hand inside tank n "sayang-sayang" it also, very tame one  rclxms.gif but very kuat makan la sweat.gif but the eyes always tengok bawah one, i put a ping pong ball in the tank, n some sand at bottom to prevent it look down, n i seldom feed shrimp also, bcos it wil always look down to find shrimp sweat.gif i prefer small fish to feed, c it swim n chase after the fishes, the most garang aro i think is pearl aro la, never can share the tank with anyone, not like other type of aros  shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif but all r so  wub.gif  wub.gif
*
jaspery, thanks for the tip! I never know they like to jump! Why does putting sand and ping pong ball prevent them from looking down though? blink.gif What other Aro can i get for around the price of a Silver Aro? smile.gif

QUOTE(c0c0nut @ Nov 13 2006, 08:17 AM)
buy when they are young and get about 5....they can live together if food is enough...when matured you got 5 nice looking aros....thats great....just becareful not to have fin rots.....silver aro is all about having good looking fins...
*
coconut, i dont think i will get 5 if i am getting any it should be 2 lor...will they fight? And how do i tell if it has fin rots? Any pictures to share? smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif So even for Silver Aros i need to on the pump for 24 hours laa ya? blink.gif Hey you keep Star tortoise too? smile.gif ANy scans to share with us over at the Turtle Tortoise forum? smile.gif Come laa...

Actually i like Arapaima but the size and the growing rate is a pain...i need bigger home before i can have them i guess...

sand is to prevent reflection from the bottom glass and ping pong balls is to keep them focusing on top ...bcos theres a distraction everytime the ball floats...

i thin min 3 silver aro will be nice...2 just too little lo...

other aro for silver price i think would be the yellow tail lo...but i rather go for silver aro lo....yellow tail is for starters lo...hahahah
*
I see...so how do i check the fin rot? Can i see it while they are young? Those smallest ones available in most fish shops....Yellow Tail is not bad but i like the long body of the Silver Aro...

kamekame sama, 2 of silver aro sure fight, last time d boss asked me to keep 6 in one tank, but then stil fight like hxxx, but not very serious la, compare to the pearl aro n yellow tail aro sweat.gif  shakehead.gif  shakehead.gif 2 or 3 i dont think will do, either one or 6 and above la, i recommend.(just my opinion) notworthy.gif  i been keeping aro for some time aldi, almost all r very easy to keep whistling.gif  just remember to keep the water clean, n i use aged water/filter water. i never care about the ph, kh n gh thing, and so far so good rclxm9.gif in penang here, about 5" size, silver aro rm20, yellow tail aro rm180, green aro rm150-180. RTG, MG, IG,CR, and the rest cant tel the price cos it depends on quality of the aro  whistling.gif  how big is ur tank? mayb u just get one silver aro first, later gain some xperiene then only increase the number, just my opinion  whistling.gif  whistling.gif  whistling.gif hope this help  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

kamekame sama: black aro need xtra care, n they r very sensitive to water ph, temperature n so on when young, not recommended for beginer. if u wan, go for red tail aro, its nicer n more secure in terms of money value. silver aro, green aro (hard to find in penang), yellow tail aro n pearl aro are very easy to keep ( i think so). i post some pics here for u (not my aros) hehehehehe, i got from net, just to share, peace. notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
