Usually aro can grow back their barbels if not seriously injured or damaged....just some info....if ur fish has no barbels he cannot detect food that is drop into the water...usually barbels is use to detect vibration in the water....
try this for no barbels aros, off all lights and drop a food into the tank...and u can see that your aro is not responding until it sees the food...for normal aro....u drop live food behind him he also know already...
