My first batch of CRS. Just arrived yesterday.

Hey, Aquatics International is a great place, and thanks for mentioning it. That's where I got these CRS from.

These are Grade B I believe. I wanted to see if they will do well in my tank, but so far they seem to have adjusted well. Now I'm contemplating getting two SS grade CRS from lelong.

where can i get a full complete small/medium aquarium with shrimps in it?
estimate price range?

You can check out lelong. There is a shop that provides the stuffs that you need for a shrimp tank. Look under Package.
http://aquashop.lelong.my/

It does not include the tank, pump, lights, or plants or shrimp. But it does tell you what kind of price to expect for the substrate and how to start.

Any advise to quickly turn down NO3 in tank? I'm hitting NO3 in high ppm recently... need advise.
*
You didn't mention whether new or established tank. If new tank, water changes to reduce NO3.
If old tank, the usual WC and you might want to check/wash your filter for decaying matter.

Thanks for all the guidance... Just had my tank cycled about 2 months and now with live stock crs and cbs... However cbs is carrying eggs... Just notice nitrate in pass few days, a very high ppm. Shall I proceed  with daily water change?
*
2 months should be okay. I would wash the filter and do a WC to bring down nitrates to below 20ppm.

Careful when washing the filter - use treated water so you don't kill the good bacteria.

About 1 year using it
I just recnetly added some rasobras n otto inside about 6 fish 10 shrimp now. I have some plant , moss n the kayu inside . My tank is about 32litres
The filter water in using max ph 7.0 .. But when I add into tank it become 7.8 .. I've recently bought a bottle of  "azoo ph down "... Need to adjust daily.. If don use this medicine wat else can I do?? Just wash all my external filter.. And the ph doesn't down also haiz... Shrimp keep dying..
*
Hi waikikizz,
I think you need to do some research into buffering PH. This is very basic for aquarists as the nitrogen cycle.

Your fishes/shrimp will suffer and likely die if PH does up and down. Stability is more important than achieving ideal PH value. Azoo PH down - as arrow said. Don't use that.

Here's a good resource that explains everything:-
http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_adjusting_pH.php

Quote:-
Lowering the pH is a more extensive task. If you simply add a product such as “pH Down” this will not work.
Stability is most important.

Btw here's a pic of the shrimp feeding on some dried pumpkin. I left the pumpkin overnight and it shrank so much. I'm concern now it'll expand in the shrimp and cause them to explode! Lol.
Didn't know shrimp eat pumpkin. I got pumpkin - I wanna try too. How to feed it? Cook it first? Dry it, or straight from the fridge to the tank?

What other fresh food/vegetables can feed the shrimp?

Ermm actually I'm not sure got any adverse effect anot Cozy I didn't have any shrimp food. So I try pumpkin lo. Lol... Anyway I just put in hot water to make it softer. Then throw in tank. But seriously I'm not sure if should feed them with pumpkin or not. So try at own risk. Lol. I'll get proper shrimp food this weekend.

hehe, we're all learning. I have multiple shrimp food, but its rather expensive. One small bottle between RM40 to RM60+ depending on the type.

Was thinking of supplementing with kangkung from the kitchen so as to reduce costs. I did that a few times - boil a leaf for 2 minutes, then put into the tank. I observe for 5 minutes and see the shrimps were not interested.

Two hours later I come back, I cannot find the leaf. I thought maybe stuck somewhere in the aquarium since its a planted tank. Tried it twice - twice also the leaf was nowhere to be found.

I'm not sure about feeding other fresh food - whether can feed barley, broccoli and so on. And for meat, can cut a small piece of raw fresh prawn (yes the one that you eat) since I see shrimps also eat dead fish or dead prawn (yeah, sometimes they die in the tank). Anyway, just a thought.

Guys, any advise on moulting problem? Poor shrimp.
Kesian your shrimp. Its eaten alive. Is that Blue Diamond? RM12 to 15 a piece?

I think arrow can advise better, as I'm new to this. For moulting problems, increase water hardness, between 150 TDS and above.
There are also certain foods to feed, but I'm not sure what they are.

Since you have Crystal shrimp in there , you cant push gh too high,
Get at least gh5.

For shrimp having problem taking out their old shell during molting , and they still alive, you can try help them by carefully help them peel off the shell, this at least got 50% chances to save them.

Hi arrow,

Why my CRS does not breed? But my cherries breed like crazy? I think if I had to estimate how many cherries including all the babies, I would say easily over 500 tails is a conservative estimate. First batch was only 12 about 6-7 months ago.

4 months ago, I added 12 CRS and 6 Tigers. I lost a few due to jumpers, and 1 CRS died in the tank after I did a big WC. Then I added maybe 6 more CRS/CBS to replenish the losses.

In mid-end December, I saw one Tiger was berried. But its no longer berried now and I never saw the babies. And I've never seen any CRS berried.

Now I think I have left at least 15 CRS/CBS combo and 4 or 5 Tigers.

Any idea why the cherries can breed, but CRS cannot? I understand Tigers are the same category with CRS and will interbreed?

what is your water temperature, ph ,gh and tds?
*
Its a 3 footer tank. Chiller regulated to 25C.
Just measured my PH is 7.0. But maybe it needs to be recalibrated as I'm using ADA soil, so it should be around 6.8.
TDS is 180.
GH is 3-4.

Been sometime since I took readings, but I'm seeing my TDS increase over the past 6 months from 90, to 110, and now 180.

do you mean house  the rusted wire mesh together with RO water to test? hmm, i gotta try, but any idea where can i buy RO water? my house don't have RO water.

i suspect this is the reason, all of them died =(
don't think so about fertilisers, i didn't dose anything at all, cycled for about 3 weeks before introducing the shrimps in to the tank.
*
Hi tehoice. 3 weeks is not cycled lol.. Some tanks can even take longer, depending on your filter. Cannot be considered safe for shrimps.
It also depends what kind of shrimps. Yamatos are tough, 3 weeks may be okay. Cherries no. 6 weeks is more like it. CRS are more sensitive.

I experienced cherry deaths at over a month. At first I also thought it was copper, but in the end its due to new tank syndrome..

Ph 7.0 abit high, 6.4-6.6 is ideal,
Did you use any mineral additives to set the GH/TDS?
TDS keep raising may due to your tank increased bio load and impurities. 500+- cherry with feeding can be quite a load.
If you use tap water, check the tap water tds as well, sometimes off chart.
Temperature can set lower to 24c.
Btw, how long is the ADA soil be used and how many KG you have in the 3ft tank? it may losing it buffering power.
*
No, I don't use mineral additives to set GH/TDS. I don't believe in those because last time I used GH/KH+ in my old tank, but it causes shocks during WC. I believe last time I couldn't keep my CRS alive because my water parameters was unstable during the WC period. Also noticed that when I did a 50% WC in my current tank, 1 CRS died the next day. This makes me think CRS needs the water to be stable - rather than ideal.

My tap water TDS is 70. Did a 25% WC today. My TDS was 155 after WC. Then I pumped in the ferts - TDS went up to 165. I pump in ferts every day. Yes, now I will monitor TDS.
Ok, will set temp to 24C.
My ADA soil is about 9 months old now. Not sure how many KGs, but its generally 3 inches thick.

Btw some updates. Just spotted my Tiger shrimp last night. Just discovered she's berried again. hehe.. This means the first batch must have hatched, and the babies must be hiding in the moss, so I don't see them.

Sorry for poor picture quality because this was taken at night. She comes out only when the lights are off, and usually at night. Not sure why she's so shy and I didn't want to use flash. Now I need to start counting the days. tongue.gif

I'm also trying to get rid of this Cyclops in my tank. The fishes cannot reach them because they are in the grass and beneath the rocks. Any advice appreciated.

Anybody want Cyclops? I can give to you if you want to cultivate as fish food. Yes, seriously.

Hey BB,
When your shrimp is at the front of your tank, try to wave your finger at it. You'll notice it will move its antennae in response to your fingers tongue.gif

Hi arrow,
Are sulawesi difficult to care for? I hear they have different needs from the CRS and will not do well in a tank with CRS due to different water requirements?
Any truth to this? Because I once wanted to add Sulawesi Orchids to my tank but was advised against it.

Sulawesi shrimp setup are totally opposite of CRS, they only thrive in higher PH, KH parameter.
however they are compatible with neocaridina shrimp.

Thanks. Its a nice shrimp. So sad I can't mix them in my tank.
