QUOTE(arrow @ Oct 25 2013, 08:28 PM) O.. your lfs really give free pest. Look like leech. I'm using prime for water treatment and nitrates are in check. Those floating plants are brilliant for this.Highly suspect is one of the reason your shrimp died. Check nitrite if tsnk still new. Taiwan got sell seachem prime? Anyway, everything looks fine after the weekends. The shrimps are feeding nicely and active though I added some carbon for good measure. Update to my last post on the leech. Had another death yesterday and today, one of the shrimps looks like its in trouble too. Lethargic and got swept by weak current.

QUOTE(GTBlackIce @ Oct 31 2013, 02:07 PM) Ouch... sorry to hear that bro. Any idea on what's the root cause? I've no idea. I find that they're all ok whenever I totally ignore the tankYikes that's bad! Something is definitely wrong... have you checked your water parameters yet? Added anything new in your tank recently? But those deaths happened after I clear some algae and did small (like ~5%) water change. I even drip the top up water slowly. |

QUOTE(arrow @ Nov 2 2013, 07:11 PM) never try that, but i remember i came across this nitrate sponge product on a shelve , but putting it back as i read the instructions like require some condition for it to work, so i don't brother. Just bought some phosphate sponge pad. See if it works cos my floating plants are expanding like crazy until i'm running out of water surface, also have quite a protein layer and algae is starting to take hold. |

QUOTE(arrow @ Nov 8 2013, 02:56 PM) Need to see them to know if they're still alive or not ma Still keep one algae wall intact though. The one I bought is this one... they come with various size and cuts. For small tank like mine... super convenient... I just cut the block into 2... stick a chopstick into it and it just wipes the algae off like miracle. Also soaked up that nasty NASTY NASTY hateful protein layer. ![]() |

QUOTE(tzuen @ Nov 8 2013, 04:16 PM) It works like an abrasive on microscopic level so while its not suitable for acrylic tanks, it removes algae and even those stains on the water level without much effort. Just wipe and kau tim... plus its cheap.ps: I can assure you I'm not Daiso salesman |

Quick question... downside of carpeting the whole tank with moss is that there's an awful lot of "stuffs" trapped there.
Should I clean them up or just let it be. |

QUOTE(lily64my @ Nov 17 2013, 08:11 PM) So happy...yellow golden back produced shmriplets in the new tank! Spotted 5 so far...waiting for 3 of them releasing their eggs!... Congrats on the shrimplets. No progress in blue velvet tank. Moved plenty cherrtly shrimplets from fire red parents and tank! Sad though. 2 crs died....out of 7 of them. Hope they grow well and breed too. My tank is pretty uneventful. Trimming the darn overgrown moss and removing excess flowing plants every couple days and learned that horned nerite snails poo like crazy. And fighting water surface oil layer. Short of using a skimmer or air pump (not practical in my case), I've tried manually removing it, I tried the paper towel method, I did water change, I cut down feeding to 20% compared with before (less shrimps now anyway Edit: Oh.. and my ongoing battle with leeches. Finally spinach is in season here. How long can I keep blanched spinach in the tank before it starts affecting my water quality? |
