If I login onto Internet banking via public wifi, is the information/password can be 'watched' by others?

The user/password is encrypted by SSL the moment before travels out from your laptop.

But due to the wifi element, i'd advise against using online banking.

If it was an unsecured Wifi without WPA/WEP, I would advise u not to use it to submit your credit card information/password etc online though those information could be encrypted before being sent out.
