1) departmental & retail shop in mall
2) any days..

my M2amex always reached max 5% rebate quota on weekend.. Just thinking to get another card for shopping in shopping mall.. mainly clothes..
I noticed citibank/hsbc had quite many promotion in the mall.. but mostly just XX% discount on normal item..

1st card always MBB's dual card, follow by HLB's stupid card.
Then you need to have strategy on using that STUPID card as you need to choose 2+1 categories.

1. Annual Income: RM36K to RM60K

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: YES!.

3. Card required for: Petrol, shopping, paying bills, dining

4. Existing credit cards if any: Citibank Clearcard (plan to cancel this) and OCBC Titanium (damn upset they reduced their cashback from 5% down to 1% mad.gif )

5. Looking at CC from: CIMB, Maybank, actually any bank as long as it has good benefits.

6. Others: I want to cancel my Citibank clear card because i feel it is completely useless to me now (very little points, limited benefits) and furthremore, citibank's offers somehow now very scarce. Might consider cancelling my OCBC in the future as well. But i will seriously have to reconsider that coz all my autobilling is on that card, gonna be damn mahfan to redo all the auto billing.

Monthly spending? If > rm1000 and < rm2000 in average, HLB's STUPID for petrol and paying bills then follow by MBB's dual card.
If within rm1000-1200, then just get MBB's dual card first. But beware, AMEX are not widely accepted in Malaysia.

1. Annual Income: RM60k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Must.

3. Card required for: anything which MBB2 amex can't cover

4. Existing credit cards if any: MBB2 platinum

5. Looking at CC from: none so far. Pls suggest

6. Others: preferably visa or master, to maximise cashback during weekdays or where i could not use amex. MBB2 visa is pretty much useless. My expenses might not be much, but occasionally buy stuffs for company from suppliers which can cost a few k.

Where's your Visa or Master that come together?

1. Annual Income: RM60K. Willing to accept card with lower credit limit, as long as the benefits from the card are worthy.

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must. Card with annual fee can be acceptable, if the annual fee can be offset with the card benefits.

3. Card required for: petrol, grocery, pharmacy, mobile phone bill payment.

4. Existing credit cards if any: CIMB PETRONAS MasterCard. Willing to cancel this card, if better card is suggested.

5. Looking at CC from: Nothing specific.

6. Others: Prefer cashback, but points is acceptable, if the points are worthy.

Thank you for the advice. smile.gif

@supersound

For petrol, grocery, pharmacy and mobile phone bill, my expense are around RM 800.

Streamyx and TNB bills are paid by my father.

LOL. I am not that sick. I buy health supplements, such as vitamin, at the pharmacies.
*
I assume that you are staying with your family. And rm800 are your own spending.
Pharmacies like Guardian accepting AMEX, Screamyx and TNB you should be paying, so your card would be MBB's dual card as first card(try to apply platinum if possible, else gold card that without travel insurance) thumbup.gif

If your intention is to spend more, pay less, suggest that you don't apply a credit card. As after few years you will need to see AKPK.

If you are paying minimum only, don't apply another card.
As once you have 2 cards, next place to go will be AKPK.

Hi all,

1. Annual Income: RM36K - 40k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, cash back, dining, shopping and overseas spending (Hotel/airflight/shopping)

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil

5. Looking at CC from: Maybank 2 cards

Just an overview:

I'm getting a new credit card and im a first time applicant.

I intend to use the CC for restaurants, petrol, shopping and during travel overseas.

I want to ask:

1. Is it advisable to use Amex ALWAYS whenever possible both locally and overseas? - to earn the treat points?

2. If Amex fails, then use mastercard?

3. Is Amex currency exchange rate lower than Mastercard? - benefit for spending overseas.

Thanks all.
*
Exchange rate are the worst for AMEX, you may only break even when you swipe on weekends(CS+ TP).
In local, swiping AMEX is the way to go, without CB, still got TP.

really? i thought using amex overseas give you better exchange rate than mastercard.
so if i go to korea/europe or uk or even whatever country, use MC than amex?
*
Well, as said, if spending during weekends, use AMEX until you maxed out the cash back.
Like I'm spending in Qatar, rm1 = 1.05 riyal last year, now 1 riyal = rm1.05 while MC still slightly lower at rm1.02.
Since I'm earning riyals, so not much problem but if on vacation, better think first.

Simple, if your spending can go beyond rm1500 monthly then only you consider another card.

Mind elaborating on this?

lordofmilk I'm in the same boat as you. You can have a look at the CIMB Cash Rebate MasterCard.
*
Reason is pretty simple, if you can't spend > rm1000 every month on dual cards, why need to get another card? Some more this CIMB card only offering 2% of cash back, AF and GST you need to consider as well. If you are holding 2 bank's cards, can all the cash back able to offset the AF and GST?
So, with dual cards and able to get rm600 a year, effective cash back would be rm550 only, have to know that now it will be 400TP = rm1. Getting another card will not be a wise step.

For me, if my income are able to apply 2 cards, first will be MBB's dual card, follow by HLB's stupid card(need rm60000 PA). As this is the 2 cards that giving the "best" cash back currently.

Let me show you why:

Ali holds the MBB2cards. He is a frugal guy, so his monthly expenses that the AMEX card can cover is only RM300. So cashback is RM15/month = RM180/year. Unfortunately, his RM150 monthly subscription to his favourite online game cannot be paid using the AMEX card. So he gets the CIMB Cash Rebate card. He gets back RM7.5/month = RM90/year. After paying off GST, he gets extra money in his pocket for no extra cost.

Abu holds the MBB2cards. He's a huge movie fan and goes to the cinema 4 times a month. So far, he has been paying RM15 for tickets using his AMEX card netting him 5% rebate everytime. He soon learns about the HLB Mach credit card, where he can get 10% rebate on movie tickets if he takes the Social package. He is wary about the RM160 annual fee, but soon finds out that he only needs to swipe 12 times a year for it to be waived. Abu sees no reason not to go for the card, because again it is extra money (double the cashback amount for movie tickets per month) in his pocket for no extra cost.

Everyone's case is different. If every merchant in the world took AMEX and no other credit card can offer cashbacks higher than 5%, then your statement would be valid. You do not need to max out one credit card's benefits before considering another credit card.
*
Yup, you are right thumbup.gif
Still, you will losing out on GST like this. Paying for online games are wrong in the first place.

You don't lose out on anything if your net income is positive at the end of the day smile.gif

There's no right or wrong when it comes to spending money, only good ways and bad ways. If you only think about saving your money all the time (eat maggi everyday, never go out), you won't be able to enjoy life at all. That's a bad way to be spending your money in my opinion. If you are able to save a sufficient amount and you want to spend the rest for your favourite online game, I'd say that that's a good way to spend your money. You are planning for the future while still keeping your quality of life at a reasonable level today.
*
For me, wasting time in cinemas listening to others talking or money for online games are a suffer, not enjoyment.

You should be getting MBB's dual card as first card, if spending can reach rm2000 fixed, then HLB's STUPID card just for groceries and petrol.
