Just read your post & that thread. Seems like I cant really squeeze the cashback rewards due to my spendings pattern (only above mentioned are fixed, some are not pay-able using AMEX, etc spendings are usually cash-only payments - e.g. room rental).

Do you have any idea of any other cards that suit my need?
*
Bro, Maybank 2 Cards are FREE FOR LIFE. No annual fees.

For Petrol:

RM200/month x 5% cash back = RM10/month = RM120 FREE money a year. And with Petrol reward cards, e.g. Petron, you can get back equivalent cash back 1.5% (3000 points =RM45 petrol). If your current petrol station do not accept AMEX, switch to one that does.

And you also earn 200x5 Treats Points = 1000TP per month from petrol. That's 12000TP a year. However you need 12,500 Treats Points to offset RM50 GST. In other words, you only need to spend another RM100 in a year to earn 500TP. Here is where your Maxis bill comes in handy where you will earn 5X points. My Maxis bills are auto debit with my MBB2 AMEX, and so happen if the day they bill me falls on a weekends, I get 5% cash back.

And if you want to earn 5% cash back from your Maxis bill every month, go to previous Maybank 2 Cards Threads and do a search or post there and maybe someone will be kind enough to tell you how to get 5% cash back on weekends. Once again read Page#1 where members have given steps on how to get 5% csah back with Maxis.

So with just your Maxis bill and Petrol, the Maybank2 AMEX can really benefit you.

Now, if you read Maybank 2 Cards thread, many have gotten the 5% cash back with the AMEX for their topping up their PayPal account. Once again, do a search or post there and see if anyone got the mood to help you. If fruitie is around, sure she will assist you on this paypal thingy. Read Page #1 too, there is a section on PayPal.

And you did mention you want installment plan, well, many merchants accept Maybank Visa and MC credit cards for 0% installment plans. BUT make sure you ask if they accept AMEX (and earn yourself 5X points and even 5% cash back) before using your Visa/MC. For example, Harvey Norman accept AMEX for 0% installment plans.

In a nut shell, you got nothing to loose getting the Maybank 2 Cards. And FYI, TNB nowadays also accept AMEX and you can even pay online via M2U with the MBB 2 AMEX.

As for the PayPal reload thing, I read that the conversion rate is higher than MB/Visa cards (2.5% vs 1%) which might offset the cashbacks obtained yawn.gif
*
Bro you sure your credit/debit Visa or MC card charging you 1% only? Next time you do an online transaction, check your records on the posting date and transaction date and then compare actual spot rate. I can tell you my Maybank AMEX overseas conversion rate is LOWER than my Maybank Visa Infinite, UOB Visa Infinite and Alliance Bank Visa Infinite.

First card to get is the FREE FOR LIFE Maybankard 2 Cards. With your Petrol, Groceries, TNB and some other weekends expenses, you can easily reach the monthly cash back cap of RM50. That's RM600 FREE money; however you got to deduct RM100 (2 cards) for GST every year.

Click here to read my article Maybankard 2 Cards American Express and Visa/MasterCard GST Is Now RM100.

If you want a Premier card that grants you FREE UNLIMITED entries to airport lounges worldwide, including for supp cards, then Maybank Visa Signature is the card for you. This card also earns you 5% cash back for Petrol and Groceries and the max monthly cash back cap is RM88 (or RM1760 spending). However, the subsequent annual fee (RM550) is only waived if you spend RM50K annually. But I will show you that if you can max the cash back cap monthly, it may be still worth while to hold this card and pay the annual fee.

Go open joint savings account with them and have them issued Debit Cards where you can "control" the damage by depositing only amount that is required.

3. Card required for: cash back or good reward points on groceries, bills

4. Existing credit cards if any: MBB2

5. Looking at CC from: Nil

6. Others: Must be free annual fee for both sup and mch. Looking for card that offer good rebate to get back gst. Spending on the card roughly 500 per month, mainly petrol and grocery. I wont be using this card as im using mbb2. This is purely for my parents.

Thinking of cimb cash rebate CC and ocbc blue. But not sure if there are better choice.

Thanks
*
Why you don't want supp MBB 2 to your parents? Fastest way to get GST rebate with 5X. Your RM500/month expenses would be enough to cover GST for you and your parents. And if they use the card, you earn points and CB too.

New card, say Visa, your GST RM50, your parents RM25+25, total RM100. Supp MBB2 also same RM25x4.

But if you really want another standby card, I guess CIMB Cash Rebate good as FREE FOR LIFE and you get 5% CB for online transactions.

For spending less than RM1,000 a month - click here to Maybankard 2 Cards Thread . For transactions of Saturday and Sunday you will earn 5% cash back for petrol and any type of transactions with the Maybankard 2 AMEX PLUS 5X Treats Points everyday.

Noted your petrol not really much, but in the future if you find that you hit the maximum cash back of RM50 with the Maybankard 2 Card AMEX, then go apply Maybank Islamic MasterCard Ikhwan for petrol.

Both cards above are FREE FOR LIFE.

If you FREE, click here and read my Credit Card Ultimate Showdown, and you will see why the Maybankard 2 Cards is all one needs for essential expenses.

For your case same, Maybankard 2 Cards. Except for Insurance (unless it is Etiqa), the Maybankard 2 AMEX can benefit you most. But even if you use the Maybankard 2 Card MAsterCard or Visa to pay your insurance, I believe the other expenses with the Maybankard 2 AMEX will give you more in returns if you were to go with just OCBC 1% cash back.

Click on the links I provided above to learn more about the Maybankard 2 Cards.

I did a small review of the HSBC card's TnCs before. As for your question about the CIMB Cash Rebate card, there is RM30/month limit for online rebates.

Good job in highlighting HSBC's T&C to others thumbup.gif

Most people just blindly apply for HSBC credit card thinking that what HSBC advertised as "benefits" in respect to a particular card are not standard card features but are limited time promotions.

And nowadays, HSBC Customer Service really sucks - their automated tele-answering machine which they implemented this year is the worst I have experienced. For those who are thinking of getting HSBC Visa Signature, click here to read my article My HSBC Visa Signature Pisses Me Off Big Time.

6. Others: Prefer card that can optimize my usage returns.  Plan to settle every month. Not - I was rejected a few weeks ago by Maybank 2 cards because they suspect my loans too much. I previously had RM 50k + in my Citibank which I just cleared today.  So now it's at 0.  Not sure if they will let me reapply again ?

Thx

I guess you can try Maybank next year after Citi update you CCRIS report to show you no more debts. Maybank 2 Cards AMEX can earn you 5X TP for AirAsia tickets thumbup.gif

Not only other credit cards' outstanding balances can affect your application of a new card, banks are also required to take into considering of other liabilities, e.g. property or car loans.

Hi - how long before you think I should re-apply?  Also no point to cancel my Citibank card right ? Won't make any difference to my application with MB ?
*
No no no, don't cancel your Citibank just yet. Once you get a new credit card that earns you points for petrol then only go cancel the useless Citibank Clear Card. I also used to have the entry level Citibank Clear Card long long time ago and the credit limit was also really high for a entry level card, however, back then Credit Card issuer can suka suka assign credit limit.

Most people will tell you that after being rejected, you can go apply again after 6 months.

You said that you just cleared your Citibank's Outstanding Balance, so I guess you need sometime for Citibank to report/update your Credit History, i.e CCRIS report. That is why I said next year only go apply, which is like 2 weeks from now.

Can't assist more on Maybank credit card, if you really want to get Maybank credit card, go to Maybankard Centre at The Gardens and 1U and you will know on the spot if you will be rejected or approved.

Probably just Cash Back Plat. Though Clear's B1F1 stuff is equally attractive too but I hardly use them. I still have M2C for TGV B1F1 on Thursday and everyday before 6pm is RM 10. I don't take coffee. So that's fine.

A few people have reported they did not managed to get their annual fee waived for the Citi Cash Back.

Ijust posted below at my Facebook Page:

I have been promoting the Maybankard 2 Cards for years simply because the AMEX gave us 5% cash back for any type of transactions including Petrol and Groceries that form a major part of our expenses. With the government imposing 6% GST, live has become harder for many and now even worst for credit card holders with Maybank's evil action (during the month of Raya the 5% cash back will be revoked except for Dining).

But I have not abandoned you guys like what Maybank will be doing to you. If you are looking for alternative cards to replace your Maybankard 2 Cards, I have good news for you. I am pleased to present to you GenX's Recommendation of Credit Cards. Please share my recommendations with others so that they too can benefit from it.

Click the link below to GenX's Recommendations of Credit Cards:

http://generationsxyz.blogspot.com/…/gen...mmendations-…

In the above mentioned article, I have listed several cash back credit cards where the minimum annual income requirement starts from RM24K that are good replacements for the Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX. However, you may need to hold several combinations of cards to achieve the same effect of the Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX where the 5% cash back was applicable to all types of transactions.

I have briefly mentioned the Pros and Cons of the cash back credit cards recommended plus other types of credit cards for other types of specific wants, i.e. Frequent Flyer Miles and FREE entries to airport lounges.

Maybank will also be reducing the FREE entries to Plaza Premium Lounge with their Visa Signature and Visa Infinite to just 5X. But if you hold the Maybank 2 Cards Premier, I will show you how you can get 20X or 25X or even 45X FREE entries to airport lounges worldwide!!!

Even with just 5X Free entries to Plaza Premium Lounge, the MBB VS still not too bad as it earns the cardholder 5% cash back for Petrol and Groceries EVERYDAY where you can earn up to RM88/month or RM1,056/year.

As for the MBB VI, we started off with only 5X FREE entries only with Priority Pass Membership Card, so, add the 5X FREE entries to PPL nationwide, we still get 10X FREE entries to airport lounges. So, it's still 100% increase from the day I got my MBB VI, hahaha.

If you don't mind cash back cards, then check out the FREE FOR LIFE Maybank Islamic MasterCard Ikhwan where it gives you 5% cash back for petrol and Groceries up to RM1K spending. Alternatively, if your Petrol combined with Groceries hit RM1K and it can be split to minimum 10 swipes and each swipe no less than RM50, check out HLB Wise Platinum where it gives you 10% cash back, and even after deducting annual fee, you'll still be getting 7.5% cash back.

Bro, the HLB Wise is only applicable for 2 categories only. So better select wisely. And you need to swipe minimum 10 times where each swipe must not be less than RM50 (any category or outside the listed categories) in order to get cash back for the category selected. The HLB wise can be really good and one can earn up to 7.5% cash back after deducting the annual fee. However, sad to say that it was reported at HLB Wise Thread that HLB no longer issues the Classic Wise card but only the Platinum Wise. So I am not sure if they have lowered down the annual income requirement for the Platinum Wise card.

I view that many are now looking for alternative cards to replace their Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX, I have started a new V3 with my recommendations for easy reference instead of repeating answering the same questions.
