Hi all,

1. Annual Income: RM36K - 40k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Petrol, cash back, dining, shopping and overseas spending (Hotel/airflight/shopping)

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil

5. Looking at CC from: Maybank 2 cards

Just an overview:

I'm getting a new credit card and im a first time applicant.

I intend to use the CC for restaurants, petrol, shopping and during travel overseas.

I want to ask:

1. Is it advisable to use Amex ALWAYS whenever possible both locally and overseas? - to earn the treat points?

2. If Amex fails, then use mastercard?

3. Is Amex currency exchange rate lower than Mastercard? - benefit for spending overseas.

Thanks all.
*
yes, always use amex whenever possible because of the 5x tp and additional 5% on weekends.

QUOTE(kart @ Feb 22 2015, 05:59 PM)
1. Annual Income: RM 60K. Willing to accept card with lower credit limit, as long as the benefits from the card are worthy.

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must. Card with annual fee can be acceptable, if the annual fee can be offset with the card benefits.

3. Card required for: Dining.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Maybankard 2 Platinum Card American Express and MasterCard. I am keeping this card for sure, as it covers most of my needs.

5. Looking at CC from: Nothing specific.

6. Others: Prefer cashback, but points is acceptable, if the points are worthy.

I am looking for a credit card particularly for dining transactions, to supplement my main card, Maybankard 2 Card. I have no problem using Maybankard 2 Card for petrol and grocery transactions, as the major merchants accept AMEX.

Then again, many food and beverage outlets do not accept AMEX, and that severely limits my choices, for once-in-a-while dining occasions.

Thank you for the advice.  smile.gif

Thanks for suggesting AEON WATAMI Visa Classic Card.

To enjoy 3 % cashback, I would need to spend RM 1000 (on dining, in my case) per month, right? That is not really practical, as I am not a big spender and only perform 2 to 3 expensive dining transactions per month.

Plus, if its cashback is less than that of the Maybank 2 Card Amex, there is no reason to use AEON WATAMI Card on petrol, grocery and bill payments, instead of Maybank 2 Card Amex.

Still, let me consider it first.
Hong Leong Wise Card is too restrictive for me to use. I could select grocery and dining as my two categories. But, there is no guarantee that I will make 10 transactions of RM 50 each.

I could split my grocery bills into RM 50 (much to the annoyance of the cashiers), and also pay the mobile phone bill with several RM 50 payments. Still, I have doubt that I can have adequate transactions of RM 50 each, as I am not a big spender (overall spending for everything  = RM 1500).
What about Public Bank Visa Signature Card? I know that my annual income does not fulfil the requirement, but I can pledge fixed deposit to make the cut.

Assuming I fulfil the requirement for Public Bank Visa Signature Card income-wise, is this card suitable for my dining purpose, supplementing my Maybank 2 Card Amex?

Sorry for making this sort of "mission impossible" for you guys. Like you all, I am trying to stretch the ringgit to my benefit.

Thank you for the advice.  notworthy.gif

pbb vs is good for dining 6%. but if you pledge with fd, you will need to deposit min 34k and pay 0.5% of the amount which is rm170. not sure will you think it is worth to pay rm170 first before getting the card and using it?

RM 3000 per quarter.. Thats a lot Lolx..

rm1k per month is not that much right? besides dining, you can also use it on other things like insurance, car services, education, furniture, online, or on any other merchants who doesn't accept amex.

Hi guys,
I want to get credit card to build my credit rating. Please advise.
One question, if I'm eligible for higher level card(eg: gold vs standard), should I go for it or just get any? Does this affect my credit rating?
*
if just for credit rating, any cc will do. higher level of cc is for extra features/benefits for users only.

you may go for citibank cashback plat 5% on petrol every day on any petrol station.

*
