calling for all sifus  notworthy.gif

i am in serious dillema now whether to get a MYVI 1.3 SE or PREVE 1.6 EXECUTIVE CVT
i wont go for cfe version as it is really exceed my budget.
follow my heart  i wanted the preve because of the looks, superb handling and very spacious.
yet, by doing some research on internet many people complaining about the problem and fc.
myvi i really dont like the handling, as i drive my friend's before really felt unstable and want terbalik one, especially in corners and roundabout.
but some says u can save a lot in terms of fuel and free 3 yrs services.

as attached above, this will be my daily route to and from work, 8 to 5 or even more, cyberjaya to putrajaya(not inside putrajaya)
ppl say myvi will jimat in city driving, preve jimat in highway driving.. i dont know whether this route consider city or highway oo  cry.gif
route one way around 10km, and mostly using highway. traffic condition i could say not really as jam as kl.

my main concern is fuel and repairing cost. one full tank if can last for one week still ok for me. just tht i scare isi one full tank then thursday already zero  rclxub.gif  this is my first car so most of myauto knowledge i got from internet only.

As everyone commented, myvi and preve served different purpose as i have myvi manual 2007 and preve CFE now...

Myvi manual 2007:
FC: 17 - 18 km/h
Recommended speed limit 100km/h
Lack of driving enjoyment
Lack of boot space (problem for a family)
Parking easy job
Engine no enough ohmmmmm
Maintenance I think myvi is the winner, no major spare part replacement yet for 7years @ 90k km

Preve CFE
FC: 11 - 12 km/h
Recommended speed limit 130km/h but still can go further, much more stable compare to myvi
Have driving enjoyment as especially CFE version with GPS, auto wiper, auto headlamp, etc
Big space no matter boot space or cabin space
Can add reverse camera on CFE head unit
Parking is a big problem for a huge car
Engine have enough ohmmmmm especially used sport mode or paddle shift
Maintenance no idea yet

My advise: go for myvi if u don't plan for family yet for the next 5 years if salary wasn't that high, save the money for ur plan such as buy house or wedding plan... Otherwise u may regret y u spend so much money on car while u looking for money desperately...

agreed with this.. if ur take a 9 years loan than consider about 5-7 years of planning ahead.. if u no idea what would happen then stick to highest secondhand value which in this case mavi for sure so within next few years u always can upgrade with some money in hand..
*
Hence, car maintenance also part of concerns... Usually spare parts replacement are required on fifth years onwards depending on your lucks... That why I stick to 5 years car loan no matter how even though I can afford RM120k+ car if go for 9 years loan... Hence if go for longer tenure, we may in dilemma to sell car too during car loan as we need to top up some money to bank in order to let go the car...

Happened to my wife car worth RM32000 that time which tended to sell on 6th year but still have another 1 year car loan to go and need to top up about RM2000... Imagine go for expensive car may bring u to hell with low salary paid and 9 years loan...

I have that knocking sound recently, when using Shell, yesterday topped up with Caltex, seems very less apparent. CFE model
*

QUOTE(SportyHandling @ Oct 11 2013, 08:48 PM)
Since you are getting the knocking sound with Shell, guess that is out. I will try Caltex for 3-4 times before deciding whether to swap to BHP. If the knocking sound is completely gone with Caltex, it appears that I will have to stick with it for good.
*

i have not knocking issues with Shell 95...
Maybe it could be the ECU self learning and miscalculated?

Not sure, though one thing is for sure is that I'll highlight this issue to Proton once my car is due for the 10,000km service. Will ask them to rectify it as well, if it is possible.
*

mine still around 2200km odo... maybe my car still new can't notice the knocking...
but my myvi 2007 have the knocking sound even though pump the same shell 95 too...

The knocking started after the 1st service at mileage 1,000km. Now my vehicle is approaching 5,000km and the knocking is still there albeit much reduced now. Don't know if it's due to the type of petrol (Caltex) or something else.

It is good that your vehicle does not exhibit knocking.
*

maybe you using shell engine oil since you said after 1000km service have such sound?

i using Petronas 3000 when 1000km service + shell 95 all the while...

I guess Proton service centres only use Petronas engine oil? Anyway the vehicle was on Petronas Syntium 800 during the 1,000km service and Petronas Primax RON95 all the while just until recently I switched to the 1st tank of Caltex.

I wonder why you were given Petronas Synthium 3000 whilst I was given Synthium 800 during the 1,000km service.
*

some SC does carry Shell Engine Oil too...

Most of SC doesn't carry Petronas 3000, so I purchase Petronas 3000 from Petronas petrol station by myself and i bring it to SC during the 1000km service... Petronas 800 is semi syn but you can choose Petronas 1000 which is full syn as most of SC do carry it too...

I just took syn800 becoz dont want to waste free service laugh.gif
*

why take Petronas 1000/3000 will waist the free service?
if use full syc, the third free service are 20k km. so are you means free service are not applicable after 15k km? i think it subjective to SC...

Syntium 1000 is 15w-50, which is too high for modern new engines.

Between Syntium 1000 fully-syn 15w-50 and 800 semi-syn 10w-40, I'd pick the 800 semi syn but change at 5k km.

If between Syntium 800 and fully syn 3000, I'd take the 3000.
*

agreed, between 1000 and 3000... the price different about RM20+ only...
3000 may contribute better FC as lower viscosity rating... so no harm to go for it...

But i still will change my engine oil every 5000km even though using Fully Syn as the air volume sucked by turbo engine will be higher compare to non-turbo engine, so the oil filter never able to last till 8k-10k km and it may clog anytime...

Hence, personally think that Semi Syn may not suitable for hot turbo engine especially those drive always high speed and high rev...

omg..

my chassis no. is 38xxx but I actually feels that I am given an old model (sigh). By the way, is it still safe to continue to drive it?
*
I guess newer batch doesn't means good... Mine 36xxx free of hassles, hence my car tested by the famous Drex (EA boss who driving preve) too... So far so good even though he pushed my car for testing... except 1 of the horn inoperative as found by Drex that time... Anyway Drex owned 38xxx too and found quite number of defects too...

You are right.. lucky you have a knowledgeable trusted friend to test it.

Do you mean you haven't experience this helicopter sound or whatsoever it is? I've been reading some forums and they are mentioning about ABS, ESC functioning. I wonder if it's due to these as I haven't driven car fitted with these before.
*
The Drex are auto experts and have a car workshop at built jalil...
No feedback fr him regarding my preve...

You mean ... if slide gear knob to left and CVT still change gear for us automatically? I thought that position for semi-auto ... we still need to change gear like manual gear.
*

Yes... it used to protect your gearbox and engine...
what the reasons what you to maintain at 5000-6000rpm on the same speed?

the CVT allowed to rev till 5500-6000rpm before shifting considered very good enough...
unless u intentionally want to blow the engine at 8000rpm then nothing we can help...

we dont talk about the CVT issues here... NONE of modern car allowed you to rev till red line as most of ECU with rev-cut features even though you driving manual car... i guess my responds clarified your doubts...

Hi, is the reverse sensor and lcd 3rd party? if yes, doesn't that mean will void warranty? Coz I asked ny SA and he said can fix but will void warranty coz of rewiring and dunno wat.

Another thing, question for all sifu. I notice because of the front down profile of preve, the reverse light not shining down properly and visibility is very bad in dark places. Even I turn on the rear fog lamp not much effect and I need to come out to check and see. Any way I can overcome this problem. Much appreciated.
*

reverse camera should not void warranty as the owner guide book mentioned that the HU are ready with reverse camera and advise with professional with such installation...

i guess only the reverse camera can improve your reverse parking skill... smile.gif

So means there is nothing wrong with the CVT holding the revs at 4000rpm ? Is 4000rpm the best max power/torque output already? I still finding it hard to believe.. Cause throughout all gears it holds at around 4000rpm only. I thought different gear ratios should be different shifting point?
*

by using S, it should able to hold at 4000rpm... but more than 5000rpm+++, it will up shift...
so no point to rev more than 5000rpm as it is not the BEST max power/torque, so why wasting the fuel for poorer performance?

i also prefer dealer more than branch...

usually branch thinking is "none of my business" and wont provide better service and follow up
for dealer thinking is "it is my business" and usually give better service for allowing us to introduce our fren to them...

anyway, if u based in Klang Valley, there have few good SA shortlisted by us...
one of mine is based at PJ Sea Park... smile.gif

The backlight of SS is still eye-catching. I think it's appropriate though, two variants of the similar specs, either hatchback or sedan.
*

SS backlight still no good enough as not that wide for rear lamp...
so far the rear lamp of Kia Cerato and Rio so far is the best for me... smile.gif

test driven Preve Exec last Saturday @ pj  Jalan 223..
don noe the test drive car being too hardcore before or what. I had very bad experience while doing the test drive.. the loose sounds come from almost everyway. yes, the pickup really aggressive, but the sound from the engine and the vibration of the dashboard is like 20 years old underpower wira..
T.T ... just my RM0.002 ya... feeling disappointed.. it is far from my expectation....
*

i guess the Jalan 223 no maintaining the test car very well, doubts can provide good service too...
So go to Sea Park branch instead as there have the first batch test car too, even though still hv minor problem such as engine light up but still have good testing experience from a old & first batch car... smile.gif

i guess the price wasn't OTR without any insurance, roadtax, etc at all but come with year end discount...

Guys ... want to ask. CFE use push start switch. How to operate ... lets say pwr window if we already turn off the engine? Thx
*

no necessary to slot in the key into slot, just simply push the button twice for amber light at least in order to operate the power window, radio, etc...

but MAKE SURE there have no light at all on the push start switch before you leaving you car by pushing the button again... otherwise battery will discharge and you wont able to start ur car later...
