Just go for the camera that feels the best to you. Since your friends using canon and you personally like the design elements of their bodies, I'd say go for it. Otherwise you'll end up like silverfire who's jumping to 5D3 for the button layout (only part of the reason la  laugh.gif )

Great try man~
Good photo there nod.gif

I think it has all the elements of a good macro shot, apart from the out-of-focus part as what silverfire sifu has mentioned nod.gif

Its nice to have bokeh in both foregrounds and backgrounds (Not only for macro shots) thumbup.gif .
I think the trick to this photo (if you still want to frame it like this), is to know which area of the subject to be put in focus; in this case its the shell, rather than the snail's stalk eyes nod.gif That's because the shell is much larger, imho its better to keep it in focus.

However, for other normal insects etc., usually people love to focus on the eyes~

When I start venturing into macro photography, I will sure come to you for more advice. drool.gif

Haha, I'm not sifu laugh.gif I don't even have a macro lens XD

Macro photography is quite fun to be honest, and not too expensive too; it gives you a different perspective on things rclxms.gif

Lately a bit busy with processing photos taken during vacation, tedious and tiring XD

Here's some of my earlier macro shots to poison potential "victims" laugh.gif

Shots taken with a 50mm F1.8g (~RM750 new) and extension tubes (RM15-200)~

Its best to use a flash also to "freeze the moment", as shots taken without flash will tend to require higher ISO sensitivities (more noise) for higher shutter speed. Even so it will still be prone to shakes. This was my 1st macro shot without flash lol

QUOTE(QiAnG @ Oct 14 2013, 12:06 AM)
Elo bro, how close do you have to be with your target with 50 1.8 and et mounted on?
*
There are 3 extension levels to the tube:

Kenko Extension Tubes by PF T.J., on Flickr

The more levels, the closer you need to get. At maximum magnification (all 3 tubes used), need to get as close as 5cm (estimate only ya, I never measure the exact distance) to become in focus icon_rolleyes.gif

How to snap basic bokeh effect in entry-level DSLR? must use Prime Lens? hmm.gif
*
Don't really need to buy prime lens for those bokeh haha XD
If you are using kitlens, shoot at its maximum focal length (max zoom) at F5.6, and try to get closer to your subject without losing focus of what you want to frame. The effects are very good too icon_rolleyes.gif

I'd say get SB700 or SB910 if you can afford. Flash is a good investment and you will be using it for a long time smile.gif

I dropped by SB700 from waist high for a few times when in the wild LOL, luckily its still working perfectly laugh.gif laugh.gif

I think should have la haha, lenses of this type if don't have OS then will lose competitiveness to its Canon and Nikon rivals which are often selected for video recording hmm.gif
Played with a 24-105mm before, damn its good thumbup.gif

What's the motivation behind editing in RAW? I don't really understand. hmm.gif

Besides retaining more information in RAW where you can edit a whole lot more, I really don't see the difference.

Can any sifus enlighten me?

Corrected laugh.gif
You get a much better chance of saving a photo if you shoot in RAW nod.gif You'd be amazed at what you can do with a RAW file, should try it out once you get your DSLR icon_rolleyes.gif
I only shoot in RAW even though the files are large and slows down my PC abit haha

Oil issue? shocking.gif

Whoa! Shoot under rain? So hardcore meh? laugh.gif  I thought the camera is not water resistance?
*
Yeah, Nikon D600 units are plagued with oil splattering issues onto the sensors, that's the reason why Nikon released the D610 very recently which claimed to have fixed that issue. But Nikon's move had upset a lot of D600 users sad.gif

DSLRs are not water resistant one haha, best also weather sealed in higher end models laugh.gif
Even so, best not to shoot too much in the rain la haha, humidity is very conducive to fungal growth

Wow, didn't know such thing happened. Nikon really knows how to do business - if my customers don't like their D600, change and buy my new D610.  rclxms.gif
*
Aiyo, think of how the D600 users would feel T___T
Its not easy to sell the D600 now that the D610 is out, unless if sell to uninformed people tongue.gif

QUOTE(exquisite_markas @ Oct 15 2013, 11:27 PM)
Eww... Rust will corrode the materials nearby dude. Be careful.

By the way, it is safe to clean the exterior of a DSLR or a lens with washing alcohol? Since it is a universal solvent.
*
Alcohol is very soluble and will sip into holes very easily, I don't think its a good way of washing the exterior hmm.gif
Just normal cloth and brush will do, like what amduser sifu mentioned icon_rolleyes.gif

QUOTE(amduser @ Oct 15 2013, 11:37 PM)
DSLR is not water resistance, some are weather sealed

even though your DSLR is not weather sealed you can still shoot under the rain but not heavy rain la, and of course to cover the viewfinder, buttons and mount parts when you are not shooting so the water wont sip inside to the internal parts and damage the camera
salt can rust metal/iron very fast best to clean the body after exposed to salt water
i use wet cloth to clean the body, the lens front and back element just use lens pen, easy and no messy
*
Yeah, salt is one of the worse things to expose to a DSLR. Have to definitely clean the salt particles off after use nod.gif

I just bath my 2x D7000s this morning, well light rain that is.

1x D7000 is in good condition,

1x D7000 has been exposed to salt water, the lens mount are covered with rust, as well as all the screws.  sweat.gif

Both are not mine.
*
Wah, so terror ar sifu? laugh.gif
Rugged use man haha XD

Though I have to admit sometimes its very hard to keep them dry, especially when on the sea or in the forest
