Thanks bro. notworthy.gif

I noticed that at ISO 1600 the noise is quite noticeable. I will try to capture tonight and post here.

May i know what's the outcome different for condition below? Given that ISO setting and environment is fix:
1. Using large aperture.
2. Using small aperture.
Is it just the shutter speed different only? Or does it affect picture quality too?
*
No problem, just trying to help, I still have much to learn laugh.gif
You'd be amazed by the amount of stuffs that I don't know about a camera and photography T_____T

Yeah, like previously mentioned, its better to compromise on image quality than to lose an important shot (once in a lifetime one summore! stress yo laugh.gif), don't worry too much about the noise, they can be "fixed" in post-processing, and they are not that obvious unless you want to print your wedding shot on a banner and put in your house XD brows.gif

If everything is fixed. Assuming aperture mode.
1. Using large aperture = more light goes into the camera sensor = camera adjust faster shutter speed = capture movements better. Large aperture (lower F value) will also mean better bokeh (background blur), see photo below:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Shot at F3.2. The focus is on the flower, so everything at the back will become blurred, and you will see bokeh balls if there's light. But do take note its not that easy to achieve this on a kitlens ya

2. Using small aperture will be totally opposite = less light goes into the camera sensor = camera compensates with slower shutter speed = capture movements poorer; if shutter speed goes lower than 1/20, even with your kitlens you won't be able to shoot handheld anymore [assuming normal human hands XD]. Smaller aperture (Higher F value) will cause everything in the photo to be sharper, so pretty useful in group photos and also landscape shots.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Shot at F18. The focus was on the incense, but even so, the buildings at the back are still sharp and not blurred out like the previous photo.

First of all, a warm welcome to you, dude!  icon_rolleyes.gif  I am sure you will like your D3200. You got the red or the black version?

One thing I have to agree is that there are a lot of photography sifus here, and they are super helpful, and very generous in terms of giving advise. Keep on shooting and I am sure you will improve in no time. In fact, I received a lot of helpful comments and suggestions from a lot of sifus here.  rclxms.gif

I noticed that most of your photos are very "heavenly".  thumbup.gif  Maybe it's because of your deep bokeh in the background?

I specially like your first photo. Very calm and, yes, "heavenly".

Thanks man, appreciate it~

I tried to get closer on the second shot, but the little guy was shy and flew away.  cry.gif

Yeah, part of my phD project is on insects haha tongue.gif But I only know the common ones la haha

Your method of shooting is correct haha; for sensitive insects, its better to shoot a few from afar, then try to get close and shoot, then even closer and shoot, that way you won't end up getting nothing haha laugh.gif We are lucky we are living in the digital edge haha, can spam shutter tongue.gif

These are all I can make for this morning shot. Planned to do long exposure but I intendedly came late at 8AM as opposed to my routine near 7AM to test that ND filter, turns out it can't stop enough light for that time. sad.gif

Looks like I still can only do the shots either at early morning or near dusk.
*
I've never used ND filters before, but the photo colors seemed abit different than usual? Is it because of the filter or pp? hmm.gif
I love shot No. 2, though its sad that in Malaysia our trees don't align that well as in other countries lol tongue.gif
Again, your shots, if edited heavy enough, can become really magical one lei, as in like those in animations wub.gif

Welcome to the gang man notworthy.gif

Like what the others have mentioned, the ISO value is probably low, so under indoor conditions (which is pretty dark to the camera, not to human eyes), the camera will have to make the shutter open longer for a properly exposed shot (not too dark not too bright).

If you go outdoors and in the sun, the conditions will be brighter, and the shutter speed will be faster (assuming all other settings are the same).

Try shooting in bright conditions 1st, and learn the basics icon_rolleyes.gif
It will all make sense soon with lots of practice~

The background should be much clearer if you're using smaller aperture. That said however, it depends on the distance too. Say I was using f/22 on my UWA, but I was close to this subject, it is in focus while the background a little bit blur.

I went thru many modifications in Lightroom with the pressure of getting my lappy froze. lol! This is all I can do.

Guys, normally when u shoot, which white balance profile used? Use according to environment, or use auto, or use preset?

I noticed that for auto white balance, white colour temp is varies for each shots. Sometimes cool, sometimes warm, even the object and lightning condition is same.

If I want the natural white colour which is same as the real environment that i want to shoot, which option should i choose?
*
QUOTE(copperwire93 @ Nov 9 2013, 11:24 AM)
I use daylight white balance outdoor regardless of weather condition. Because with it, I can recover the white balance again if it's shady weather through RAW mode and lightroom.

When indoor shooting events, I stick to AWB or pre AWB settings. Shoot RAW for best WB recovery, icon_rolleyes.gif
*
+1, shoot in RAW, then adjust everything later in LightRoom laugh.gif

Wah, you really took a lot of photos bro notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I think for the 1st photo, it might be better to have just composed the lower right corner of the photo- showing just the boats and the sea. After all, the there is not really anything on the left anyway haha laugh.gif Of course, to do that you might need to zoom a bit..

2nd shot I think the some of the shades of green are a bit too saturated, but I love the lights and shadows on the sand though, very nice... I didn't notice the tire tracks at all until I read your photo title haha laugh.gif Might need to change title tongue.gif

New Ford Fiesta, yay or nay?

Saw the new Ford Fiesta (and Focus) at Tropicana City Mall today while I was heading home laugh.gif
Decided to take a few shots before leaving XD

I really liked the previous Ford Fiesta and even planned on getting one haha... now that the new one is out, I am not so sure any more, don't really like the grille at the front. I think people use this kind of grille in Aston Martins/Jaguars because they are low and "broad", a bit weird when incorporated into a "narrower" hatchback with relatively higher rideheight haha..

Oh well, its just a matter of personal preference I suppose, since this particular model is very popular in the US/UK iinm hmm.gif
Anyway, just sharing:

Wah... thanks for this great insight!
As for 3rd party lenses, how much will the Tamron cost?
And also... Where to buy these lenses shocking.gif

Yo bro Ji Tan brows.gif
Any significant difference between D7000 and D7100?

Also to recap and think about what you guys said, how come D5XXX series considered beginner? sweat.gif
I thought the D3XXX is the beginner series
*
The Tamron 17-50 F2.8 is a very good lens. A lot of people opt for this lens for shooting weddings too, the wide aperture will allow better performance indoors.

You will be able to find plenty of sellers in Garage Sales who sells all different brands of camera gears and accessories nod.gif For me, I always buy from Yannick: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yannick-Came...7834827?fref=ts
Good service XD

D7000 vs D7100?
Yeah, big difference in terms of moneeeyyy haha XD
The D7100 is more geared towards sports. Most people wont really need the addiitonal features also~
Better to get a D7000, and spend the remaining budget on a good piece of glass to really bring out the best of the entire camera system~

Both D3xxx and D5xxx are considered entry-level beginner cameras, where the D5xxx is slightly more advanced, both in terms of button layouts and specs.
If you are already familiar with using a DSLR, you will find the additional dials and buttons on the D7000, D7100 more convenient to quickly get the settings you want icon_rolleyes.gif
