A question for those connected with VGA connection. Play a DVD on your 360. Does the 360 now upconverts it to resolution other than its 480p?
There are reports that with the new update, the 360 now works basically like those expensive DVD player that have the upconverting capabilities. Native DVD resolution is 480p, but there are commercially available DVD players that can upconverts the video feed to 720p and 1080i.

hey string, i'm on VGA HD connected to our 42" plasma. usually what happens is that whenever i pop a DVD in, the reso drops to 480p. but after the update, i checked.. and the reso didn't drop, instead it stood at 720p just like what i've set the 360 on. what does that say?

Congratulations! Your Xbox 360 now is an upscaling DVd player! rclxms.gif

All the more reason for those who hadnt experienced image upscaling on DVDs before to try out the VGA connection. biggrin.gif

I had upscaling through component using my HD-850 Samsung DVD player, 720p and 1080i, but looks like the 360 is now a two-in-one, the ultimate console + upscaling DVD player! Hooray! rclxm9.gif

Does it work through component or just VGA? unsure.gif
The problem is the console is region locked which means I can only use my old pirated DVDs only doh.gif
*
Only via VGA. Microsoft is bound to face MPAA's wrath if they do that via component connection. Funny thing is, VGA and component are both analog and unsecured, so why only VGA? unsure.gif

Pirated DVD only? If you can be sure that your pirated DVDs are copoed exactly from its source and a one-to-one copy without downscaling or is original source touched, then it should be good i think.

I know they are region free, but since they are pirated, you can never know if they (one-eyed pirates) have faithfully copied the movie one-to-one or messed around with the original source, just to fit it into the pirated DVDs.

Holy Shit Holy Shit Holy Shit Holy Shit!

Those with MCE paired with your 360 will FLIP!!!!!

I SALUTE you Microsoft! rclxm9.gif

Remember the VGA only upscaling for your DVDs? NOT ANYMORE!

Those with movies inside your MCE PCs will have ALL your movies UPSCALED TO the resolution you set on 360! That means, ALL my movies , stored in the MCE , ripped at 480p, now shows up at 1080i/720p! Pure EYE CANDY! thumbup.gif

Thank you SO MUCH MS! I <3 U!!!!!!! wub.gif wub.gif

My Matrix movies in 720p/1080i! All Pixar movie awesomeness in 720p/1080i! Bloody Star Wars Episode I till VI, in 720p/1080i!! I died and gone to HEAVEN!

The next step here is to find higher quality video sources (such as from HD-DVDs and Blueray discs, or WMVHD movies) at 720p and higher quality, and rip them one-to-one at original resolution.

This may be Microsoft's preparation for the upcoming HD-DVD addon not to far in the future.

Have you tried comparing to the image produced by your HD850? unsure.gif
*
Yep! the HD850 wins by a smidgen, probably due to the fact that it's connected via DVI port-to-port. The 360-MCE is OTA with component at the 360's end. DVI versus component = digital vs analog, so the results are apparent.

But im happy that MS did it anyway. Before this, i had to resort using the 4 different zooms in MCE to make sure i get the video full screen, and without squashed or elongated image (wrong aspect ratio). With this new update, it STICKS to the 360's resolution, and coincidentally, i ripped all my DVDs at their nativeresolution, so it looks gorgeous! rclxm9.gif

Last nite, have 2 downloads on the Active Downloads list. DEMO1
downlaoding while DEMO2 pending. This morning, DEMO1 not on
the list anymore, assumed it was downlaoded. DEMO2 at 7%.
Went to DEMO GAMES section, nothing there. Tried to locate
downloaded DEMO1, no where in sight.

Downloaded videos are listed at the MOVIE TRAILER section. Only
DEMOs got nothing. What is wrong? Bug?

My Bankshot Billiards 2 is still out there somewhere, i downloaded it and placed it on active download. I checked this morning, the queue is gone, but my download is no where to be seen. I checked the memory, and all i see is a /!\ Unknown Game. OMGWTF?
*
SAme here for both cases. I've put Lost Planet demo and Test Drive Unlimited demo on queue, Lost Planet disappeared fro the queue so i assumed it has finished downloading. Went to the appropriate blade, and its not there?

Then i went to the Memory setting in the System blade. Checked the HDD, and lo and behold, it registered as an Unknown game. Put the Lost Planet demo back on queue( Marketplace and chose download again), it went back , and registered as "only 15 % complete"! So in my case it is still STUPID BLOODY TMNET!.

The redownloads resumes....sad.gif

Another point to ponder. All downloads halts when you go into Media Extender mode. Is that supposed to happen? Is the bandwidth that demanding?

String : I guess the ppl at MS decided that they don't want to take chances when streaming movies off the MCE and thus turns off downloading when you're running Media Center mode.
*
I guess so....if only they could cater for both at the same time. Or is it a question of hardware? The Wireless Adapter for the 360, is it capable of logging onto 2 SSID? Coz i set the 360 using "G" for all Xbox Live purposes, while using "A" for MCE.

If this is not possible, i distinctly recall that im still able to receive "who is online" notification" even while im watching movies on MCE. I guess that notification would take minute bandwidth requirement compared to download huh?

I got to get my update later. By the way, stringfellow, if the upscale is just available on VGA, that's mean I can only view it in my monitor but not TV? Or only the HDTV has VGA port?
*
Monitor AND HDTVs or HD-Ready TVs that supports VGA connections. The only other way to access this upscaling is via MCE-360 pairing.
