I have a quick question.

Do Malaysians need passport to go to East Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak)?

I asked some friends, some say need, some say no, while Internet says both.

I hope fellow /k/ dwellers can help me.

Use passport if you travelling abroad, say from KL to KK fly to Hongkong.

no, just bring IC okay already. They'll give you a piece of paper that you need to give back when you go back to Malaya. Can only stay for 90 days.

Need IC. But they wil gip u free visa to masuk east.

Keep the paper.. because you need to return it to the immigration in the airport when you want to take flight back to peninsular.... once I nearly lose mine.. I need to make a police report.. and it is also possible I miss my flight because of that..

We live in the same country, there shouldnt be any restriction for peninsular to go to their state. Should they insist for one, then tell them you be getting yourself a lawyer.

For Sabah, it's a no, just that they MIGHT "soal" you in the immigration counter, key in your I.C number in the system and make a search. Itu sahaja.


I was once used passport to enter Sarawak, they stamped on the passport instead of giving you a small form to keep, that form must be returned to the immigration authority upon your departure. They suggest to use passport due to the risk of you losing the form during your stay.

Again, Sabah and Sarawak both have different immigration rule if not mistaken @@

it's not about being independent. it's the price we (peninsula folks) pay to get them to join malaysia.

The immigration thing is under the 20 negotiations during the formation of Malaysia.
Bodo. Malayan ask people to join of course people will have some sort of rules la.
Not forget to mention the rich natural resources in swak and sbah.

Yup, West Malaysian must apply for work permit if they want to work in Sabah same as Sarawak.
