I currently have the necro placed as a deck that doesn't exactly have a lot of hard hitters but rely on early board control with spells that support it. Late game though, it became harder simply because of certain decks that can counteract the infection poison counter or just crush through the creatures if early board control was not gained.

That's assuming you're giving up your might, magic or fortune or drawing a card later on in the game per turn to put that poison on. Not that good from what I can see from my own deck. Though I must digress seeing as I have no idea on the spells that he would use.

Spells and lightning kills off and wipes a lot of my creatures. Went to around 15+ resources per side before I won. Atropos and spell magnet vamp lord helped quite a bit.

Usually you'll have a whole lot more card compared to your opponent. Magic had one heck of a miller deck involving the blue mana that allows you to get some free turns to mill them some more.
