Seriously if one of the main uses of a tablet for you is to watch videos, you should really consider a Baytrail device. Imagine being able to consume any file straight from the Internet without having to transcode it!
Hi Marauderz,
Thank you for the testing, just wondering if you able to do the testing 1080p hi10p file from http://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/ which having really high bit-rate and try it out with LAV filter/decoder and Enhanced Video Renderer (i dont expect current atom is strong enough for MadVR Renderer)
Also may i know if it is possible to use 720p resolution via display settings and does the touch screen accurate for 720p resolution (this is for media center use via given HDMI port)
maybe i will skip baytrail and goes for next generation atom that support hardware h265/vp9
iconia w4 really is a good value tablet to buy (4 core atom, ips panel, 64gb storage, windows 8 with office)

I'm using the latest MPC-HC which is already using LAV, video renderer is EVR already. Not sure what MADVR is but it shows up as unavailable under my MPC settings, I'm gonna guess it's some renderer that enables something? Animated ASS effects?
refer here for madvr, you will get better idea. It just provide a little better Image quality copared to EVR (but takes more cpu cycle and gpu resource) http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228
Oh gods... it 330 and I'm still posting in the forums
Great news, the W4 kicked the crap out of the test video, all subtitle animations displaying correctly.
Selecting MadVR as the renderer gave some performance issues, until I tweaked the settings abit, which I think still means it might not meet your requirements.
Specifically I noticed that it was using bicubic for a lot of scaling algorithms, so I switched it to GPU Bilinear and it worked fine. Fine but of course it consumes 100% of CPU time during playback obviously.
Will test the effects on external monitor output when I wake up and then make a video, since this is gonna be interesting
thank you for the test, if it can play the required test video smoothly , im sure it able to play 99% 1080p video on the internet. this is better than snapdragon 800 tested with the same test file, maybe it is because libav codec for x86 are much efficient than ffmpeg codec for arm.
i never thought baytail is this powerful, with 22nm manufacturer process, this is like underclock celeron already (but it is quad-core)

Here's what happens when you connect the Acer W4 to an external HDMI display.
lol, it didn't support clone mode, this is quite bad maybe clone mode is possible via intel graphic control panel Display -> Multiple Display setting and save the profile. at least, its good to know that baytrail can support extended display, maybe can use 1080p resolution instead for secondary display
However, it is good to know that this sub rm1000 tablet can play 15mbps 1080p hi10p 16ref frame well.maybe i will buy one. shouldnt be a problem to run 720p 8bit HEVC codec in future for software decoding
thank you for the wonderful testing you are really helpful
