Seriously if one of the main uses of a tablet for you is to watch videos, you should really consider a Baytrail device. Imagine being able to consume any file straight from the Internet without having to transcode it!

Hi Marauderz,

Thank you for the testing, just wondering if you able to do the testing 1080p hi10p file from http://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/ which having really high bit-rate and try it out with LAV filter/decoder and Enhanced Video Renderer (i dont expect current atom is strong enough for MadVR Renderer)

Also may i know if it is possible to use 720p resolution via display settings and does the touch screen accurate for 720p resolution (this is for media center use via given HDMI port)

maybe i will skip baytrail and goes for next generation atom that support hardware h265/vp9

iconia w4 really is a good value tablet to buy (4 core atom, ips panel, 64gb storage, windows 8 with office)

I'm using the latest MPC-HC which is already using LAV, video renderer is EVR already. Not sure what MADVR is but it shows up as unavailable under my MPC settings, I'm gonna guess it's some renderer that enables something? Animated ASS effects?

refer here for madvr, you will get better idea. It just provide a little better Image quality copared to EVR (but takes more cpu cycle and gpu resource)
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=146228

i just wondering if you can test with the file below just to check whether baytrail can run really high bit rate hi10p file

Your external output question was interesting enough for me to run out of bed and give it a test. And it's time for good news, bad news time.

bad news is... yeah, something funny happens when you plug in a hdmi cable tongue.gif good news is you CAN work around the problem, and I found out why Halo: Spartan Ops behaves the way it does. I'll explain in another video tomorrow.

As for the file... the site is SLOOOOOW... almost done though.

Oh gods... it 330 and I'm still posting in the forums tongue.gif

Great news, the W4 kicked the crap out of the test video, all subtitle animations displaying correctly. wink.gif

Selecting MadVR as the renderer gave some performance issues, until I tweaked the settings abit, which I think still means it might not meet your requirements.

Specifically I noticed that it was using bicubic for a lot of scaling algorithms, so I switched it to GPU Bilinear and it worked fine. Fine but of course it consumes 100% of CPU time during playback obviously.

Will test the effects on external monitor output when I wake up and then make a video, since this is gonna be interesting tongue.gif

Win8 experience score
Cpu 6.3
Memory 5.5
Graphic 4.3
Gaming 4.2
Disk 7.05

System 4.2

Result may not be accurate, as i know z3740 should be score at 4.3 only

I don't think the WES is a good gauge for performance.

Here's the Acer W4's display driver quirk. External video usage to come later.

i never thought baytail is this powerful, with 22nm manufacturer process, this is like underclock celeron already (but it is quad-core)
*
My sentiments exactly when I first tested it! So far the only file that has problem is a Spaceship Yamato one that has the funkiest Karaoke effect I've ever seen. But given that even my proper desktops can't process that sequence properly I guess that's definetly an exception.

Do anyone have their W4 screen flicker sometimes?
*
Yes, just noticed it a few more times today, seems to be due to the brightness controller. I'm trying to nail down when it occurs, I think it happens more often if you leave the brightness at < 50%

Here's what happens when you connect the Acer W4 to an external HDMI display.

I think the most disappointing is the home button. Too soft and sometimes not even responding.
*
You're referring to the fact that sometimes you can't press the front button to wake up the system right? Ingest that too, I wonder if it goes to sleep? Cause I think after a while it stops responding to the first press.

Just remember if you're browsing in IE, you can't just pinch and zoom to the main content area remember that browsing by panning is a norm on tablets tongue.gif

lol, it didn't support clone mode, this is quite bad  sweat.gif
maybe clone mode is possible via intel graphic control panel  Display -> Multiple Display setting and save the profile.
at least, its good to know that baytrail can support extended display, maybe can use 1080p resolution instead for secondary display  laugh.gif

However, it is good to know that this sub rm1000 tablet can play 15mbps 1080p hi10p well.maybe i will buy one

thank you for the wonderful testing  rclxms.gif
you are really helpful  thumbup.gif
*
Nope, trying to turn on Clone mode through the Intel Graphics property app well... nothing happens. tongue.gif

NP about the testing, it's something I would have done anyway, been doing this for a while wink.gif

oh well, at least it's easy enough to get any other cheap BT keyboard while you wait for the scrunch case to become available.

most of the time i in potrait mode...........easyly hold by one hand

Reading sites, i'll use portrait mode usually. Video obviously landscape. But I'll use the landscape mode where I'll grip the part where the Acer logo is so I don't accidentally press the button.

Upgraded to latest version of mpc-hc which uses the version of LAV that has HEVC support, and yes, it can play it, some jerks around the busier scenes though.

Interesting, the Microsoft Office key activates and attaches itself on to the Microsoft ID of the User Account which activated it WITHOUT a confirmation dialog or any other mention of something like that. So be sure about which Microsoft ID you want to use for the license first...

I wonder if you can go online and do it with any MSID you want?
